For My Refs.
Selior didn't care or awkward moments. Not that they bothered him, he literally didn't care... he was numb to most awkward feelings of this kind and hardly noted the lack of conversation as anything odd. He was, generally, a very awkward person to everyone else, people had to get used to it, end of story. Of course that was hardly the case in this particular incident, but either way...

She started talking and his first reaction was to dramatically roll his eyes.
"What do you mean how did I wind up with her? I didn't ask for it if that's what your saying. It was on my doorstep, and then it exploded into the oompa loompa before you." Selior said, waving at Felicis. "Green hair, short and stuff, ever watch that movie?" He asked, looking her over quickly. "Yeah, prolly not. How did you end up with yours?"

Felicis shook her head quickly. "Nuh uh! My name's much faster to say!" She frowned a moment and said her name out loud, followed shortly by Pomponeia to which she just sighed a bit. "Well, alright. Pom, huh?" She thought about it, before shaking her head. "I like Severa more than Pom, and Pomponeia more than Sev." Oh, the confusion! "Alright, here's the deal then. If there's ever a monster behind you I'll call you Pom, but when we go to the bar I'll call you Sev. Sounds older!" She nodded matter of factly.

The conversation had turned and Felicis looked away in a apathetic manner. "Odd, I guess... Can't think of much that isn't odd. Computer, huh? That sounds odd!" Felicis commented, looking curious. She shot a glare back at Selior and rolled her eyes. "He doesn't show me stuff like that. I did get to ride a motorcycle, though!" She nodded enthusiastically.

And... now the girl was talking about time passing and not being able to remember it. She felt strange, yes, but much like Selior she wasn't the type to dwell on how odd things felt but rather on what she could do with it now. "Maybe." She eventually said, shrugging. "If you don't remember it, it doesn't matter. Maybe that is how everyone feels when they.. uh.. come alive?" She sighed, frustrated. "We probably weren't even alive before. Just thinking about living. Plotting and stuff." She grinned, motioned back at their parents, "Like how to get alot of stuff and sweets from them."

[[ PARK DESCRIPTION coming soon. Just imagine your basic park XD ]]

Tezi wasn't really sure what was going on with Selior. His aura kind of gave off an ignorance, but his heart betrayed him. She was good at reading people. She figured that he would come around sometime, and there were already glints of care in the way he made fun of Felicis. Tezi watched him, interested.
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," she responded bluntly, "And I am a... friend of some of the Imperium staff. Gina especially. They wanted me to be part of their uh..."
Malice driped from the last sentance. She almost said research project. That would've probably turned out bad.

"Well, it's hard to explain. Pomponeia was a gift from Gina."
Tezi was, in a way, mad that the doctors had left this bundle of a burden on her. She thought about it for a moment, and realized that she did love Pomponeia. That didn't make her any happier.

The girls, still leading the group, were deep into conversation by this point.
"Technically Tezi didn't show me it, I just remember her saying it a few times while she was using it. When I was...," Pomponeia paused, trying to decide on the correct wording, "Not alive she used to wear me on her wrist all the time. And I remember parts of my before-life after I came to stay with her. They use this thing with a lot of buttons and each of them has a weird symbol on it. It connects to the computer. When you press a button, something shows up on the computer."
She thought about it more, "It's really confusing! And then there's also another circular thing that Tezi always moves around a lot. And it makes clicking noises!"
Pomponeia's eyes widened.
"A motercycle? What's that?" her voice hinted at excitement.

And then the conversation took a more serious turn, again.
"I want to remember it, though," Pomponeia said, frownding, "I feel like there was a lot of time spent doing nothing, but I feel like there is something I should know."
There was a long pause as she looked up at the sky.
"Something... something that would make me have a purpose here now. I don't think we are like normal people, Felicis. Everybody we pass by looks similar with their skin and hair and stuff. We are different. I don't think they came from objects like us," she was on to something, "I think we have a purpose... we just forgot."

The group trudged onwards towards the park.

Selior's eyebrows rose as she mentioned the movie, he gave her a mock applause and then snorted at the disdain that appeared in her voice a moment. "Doesn't sound like you like her much, for a friend." He said in an amused tone, hardly bothered by the thought his new child came from a place this woman seemed to speak of with some sort of... disturbance.

The tone, in truth, only reminded him of many fammiliar times in his past. People angry at him for breaking things, breaking people.... even farther back, lovers, mothers and brothers angry at him for taking their loved ones away. Ah, brothers...

His face was void of his amusement only briefly before his mind retreated back to the subject at hand. Silly memories.

"Well, hard as it may be to explain, I think I have a right to know, don't you? I don't really consider a little thieving brat to feed a gift, thank you very much."

Felicis, meanwhile, nodded slowly. "I see... I hope I see one, some day. They sound somewhat silly, though, if you ask me.... ah, she wore you, huh? Well, I know! I saw you just awhile ago while you were still on her!" She nodded, before a rapid, enthusiastic description of a motorcycle followed.

"It's a.. a big thing with wheels and it's really loud and goes REALLY fast!! Selior had me wear this horrid thing on my head but the wind goes in your face and lots of people stare at you." She took a breath quickly. Her eyes glazed over somewhat in a dreamy sort of remembrance and admiration. "It's the most wonderful thing I've ever seen.... well, I think I've seen, anyway."

Felicis' joy slowly etched away bit by bit as Pomponeia brought up their unusual circumstance again. Eventually, she threw her arms up in the air and turned tword the other girl. "Well, of course we ain' the same as everyone else." She began, dropping her arms down and using her hands to pull on each of her braids. She mad a puckered face. "We are far too cute. We should feel bad for them, really, with their boring skin colors and stuff... And look at that hair of yours! How many braids could fit in that!" She declared, impishly. She, apparantly, didn't want to dwell on the subject. Oh, so they were different, that only ment she could beat more people in a "fair" game of dice.

"So, you came from that snake thing, and I came from tessarae. You have a tail and I've got.." She pointed at the circle markings on her elbows as best she could. "Clearly, I have some other power I am unaware of, or I declare this is entirely unfair!"

Tezi looked at Selior.
"She's a friend," she confirmed and then added quietly, "Of sorts."
As his mind drifted away, so did her's. She wasn't exactly sure what to call Gina. Of course, they got along, and they could go out for a cup of coffee or something, but they weren't exactly friends. They wouldn't go shopping, share their hobbies, or anything like that. They were simply aquaintances. Tezi frowned on that note. She didn't really have any real friends. She spent a lot of time out and about, but she never made any realy good friends. She sighed.

There was nothing she could do about that... except... She looked up at Selior. What if-? She dismissed the silly thought quickly.

Pomponeia and Felicis still marched on ahead.

Pomponeia listened carefully as Felicis described the motorcycle. She pictured it in her head.
"Does it have horses driving it?" she asked in bewilderment.
She remembered seeing some big things with wheels that looked like carrigages with roofs, but they had no horses. Of course, Pomponeia didn't know what an engine was, yet.

Bringing the conversation full circle, Pomponeia was watching Felicis make her crazy hand movements.
"We are too cute," Pomponeia giggled glancing down at her tail, "My hair is... I don't know."
She ran her fingers through her glossy hair, snagging on a tangle every so often. It needed to be brushed, and maybe trimmed.
She laughed, "Braids would look funny in my hair!"

"I think we can do special stuff, yeah!" Pomponeia chimed in, "An' I think you gotta be really lucky if you came from tessarae. I mean, you gotta be lucky to meet a person like me!"
She pointed to herself, grinning in her confidence and glorification.

By this point, the group had arrived at the park. It was a bigger park than Tezi was used to back on Gambio, but she didn't bother lingering on that. Pomponeia immediately took off for the biggest slide attatched to a playground structure, dragging Felicis by the hand. The two girls were giggling as Pomponeia bumped her way onto the woodchip-covered box containing the whole playground. Tezi looked at Selior and gestured him to a bench.

Oh how motherly they had become!
PostPosted: Sat May 26, 2007 10:08 pm

"Uh huh." Selior said, shaking his head. "One of those friends when its convenient types?" He asked, eyeing the bench as though it were the mark of all that was evil in the world. There was no way he was going to sit and survey over the little ones like some sort of gazelle watching out for lions. He was the lion, alright?

"Yup. I've got those sorts of friends." He said casually, cracking his knuckles. "They'll kill you when you put your back to em, you know... Ah, but what am I saying, a lady like you probably doesn't so much as talk to those underhanded sorts!" He said, clearly mocking her. Despite himself, he made his way to the bench and sat down after a moment, excusing it to himself with the simple fact that it was more comfortable for the moment. In truth, he wanted to go down the slide, too.~

"No horses, but it sounds like a stampeded when its going." Felicis commented, grinning widely. "Maybe Selior will let me drive it and I'll take you with me." She commented fantastically, only to look alarmed.

"Braids look good on anyone. Even him." Felicis said, motioning to Selior. "I only wish my hair was thicker like yours, and I could put it in a dozen braids! But I'll settle with two... for now.." She said, grinning impishly again. Suddenly, she looked alarmed, as she was pulled towards the slide and onto the wood chips. Oh, it wasn't so bad, for nature. Except the wood chip things, which were getting in her sandals and entirely irritating. Upon arriving at said slide, Felicis made a point of throwing her sandals off while examining the odd structure. "You need help or something getting to the top of the slide?" Felicis asked the other girl, while eyeing a kid slide down. "I can tell the rest of these kids to beat it, if you like." She said, while pulling on her braids again. It seemed like a sort of habit she was developing whenever she was saying something boastful or intimidating.

Tezi shrugged to Selior's remarks and settled into the bench. Now the conversation had really turned to a dead silence. The giggling of other children filled the air, yet there was still an awkard silence. She looked at her reddened feet. Walking in high-heels was no fun, and a blister had formed on the side of her left foot.
"Ow," she murmured under her breath.
She knew she had forgotten something at home: bandaids.

Looking up, Tezi saw the two girls playing happily together. She smiled at the thought that at least Pomponeia would have friends (or just one friend). It's not that Tezi was antisocial, she just didn't really ever make any friends. Well, other than Kinnie, but that was a different story. Anyways, she spent most of highschool taking care of her younger sister, Meridian, who was too immature to do it herself. She never went to college, having to work long hours to get her father's medical firm under control. Now, though, she had all the time in the world (and money to go with it).

"How does it work?" Pomponeia asked, still quizical about the motorcycle.
Just at that moment, one sped by the park. She watched it with widened eyes. Looking down at her own tail, she wondered if she would ever be able to ride one of those things.
Thinking out loud, she asked, "Is that one?"
She came upon the slide then, and looked at it's tall structure. Looking around, she found the perfect place to hoist herself onto the structure. It was a set of wide steps that were perfect for her to climb on.

"Nah, I don't need any help," Pomponeia said, already heading for the stairs.
In fact, Felicis didn't have to tell the kids to 'beat it'. At the two girl's odd appearances, they had already ventured off to other sections of the playground. Obviously they hadn't seen too much in Gaia yet, since odd creatures (though Pomponeia & Felicis were not necessarily creatures) were around every corner. Pomponeia quickly pushed herself up the steps with her tail until she was, at last, at the top near the slide.
"Wow," she breathed, "Everything seems so little up here."
She waved to Tezi from her perch, who smiled and waved back.

The roar that the motorcycle made as it sped by hadn't only gotten Pomponeia's attention -Avery was much more displeased on the matter of the loud, monstrous vehicles. Specifically because moments before its arrival, he had been sleeply quite soundly on one of the park benches; complete with pillow and blanket.

He sat up on the bench bewildered for a few moments by his surroundings, before waking up enough to remember exactly why he was in the park. That lovely little eviction notice... He swore under his breath, glancing around to make sure no kids were around that could've heard him. The last thing he wanted was some dumb kid's crazed soccer mom haranging him.

But as Avery looked around, he realized that there were actually quite a lot of kids (none too close to him though, their parents probably thought he was a hobo. But he wasn't! He was temporarily withouth shelter! Completely different!) He could feel himself flushing with embarassment, and quickly shoved the blanket and pillow he had with him into the large cardboard box he was lugging his belongings around in.

Maybe this wasn't the best of ideas. On a brighter note, no one he actually knew was here. But there certainly were some strange looking kids... He tried not to stare at Felicis and Pomponeia playing on one of the playground structures, but it was just bizarre. Avery had lived a relatively sheltered life. Kids with scales and green hair just weren't a part of his upbringing.

Selior had his arms crossed. He looked displeased for a menagerie of reasons, but most namely for the fact the silly woman with him wasn't proving entertaining anymore. He looked at her sideways and shook his head in a very sort of 'how pathetic' manner at her 'ow.'

He slouched down into the bench and began scratching at the top of his arm with a very sharp looking black nail. Which wasn't to say he looked at all tragic or emo or gothic for the rest of him, because his nails were not black for polish but rather.. for other reasons. "So uhm." Selior began, watching the motorcycle go by with a faint smile. "Feel like babysitting? I could pay you."

Felicis blinked a few times in awe as she followed the roaring bike that everyone else was. "Yeah... Selior's one is better, though. It's dark red, like blood!" She grinned in a creepy sort of masochistic little girl way and then watched Pomponeia waltz herself up curiously. "I don't know how it works. Maybe it's magic? Maybe there's a little man inside the motorcycle that can run really fast? Maybe there's the spirit of a thousand horses running from a lion trapped eternally inside it!!" She took a deep breath and followed suit till she was up top the slide with the other girl. "Yeah, I guess. We could get higher, though." She muttered.

Eyeing the various rails around the place, she tried climbing up a bit to get just a little higher but soon found the slipper surface gave no traction for climbing. She frowned disappointedly, but shrugged it off a moment later. "Okay so. Uhm. You first? Hey, if you are scared, we can go together. 'Cause maybe you need legs." She observed curiously. "Or maybe not. Maybe with your tail you will slide faster, which would be fun. Or.. oh look it's a poor man!" Felicis nonchalantly declared, pointing at Avery with an impish smile. "That's staring at us! How very rude!"

Tezi looked Selior in the eyes. Her green eyes sparkled in the nearing noon-time sun. She noticed his black nails, long and sharp. After a few seconds she compared them to her own French manicured ones. His looked probably even more feminine than her own. But, one thing Tezi did know, that was not nailpolish. She found it queer that a person would have nails like that... Selior destracted her.
"Mm. I got enough money and," she paused, "One little devil is enough."
She smiled at him, remembering when Nathan was younger.

Glancing up at the two girls again, Tezi saw their view directed elsewhere. A man on a bench... sleeping! They were staring directly at eachother. She gritted her teeth. The man didn't look like a hobo, at least, but sleeping on the bench wasn't something normal people did. And then she spotted it. An old Roman-esque lyre. It was laying next to him on the bench.
"I think that's a Substantia," Tezi said quietly, directing it to Selior.

Pomponeia forgot about what her and Felicis were speaking of when she pointed out the homeless man. Pomponeia frowned.
"He looks like he thinks we are scary," she pointed out, "Do you think we should go down and greet him?"
Without waiting for a reply, the little girl thrust herself down the slide, tumbling out at the beginning. She looked up and Felicis and grinned. Proping herself back up, Pomponeia beckoned for the other girl to come down.
"We are gonna say hi," she mouthed as well as she could.
She didn't know why, but something about the man made her feel like he would have something interesting to say.

Tezi watched silently as her "daughter" sped down the slide. She fully understood the girl's intentions: talking to the man. The reason Pomponeia was probably interested by him was because he had a Substantia, he was chosen to take care of one. The lyre he had must've been one, there was no doubt. Tezi remembered Gina telling her about a beautiful lyre they had found in Rome...

It was a nice day, Peter decided; Caius had been cooped up inside all day (and he'd been stuck in the hospital all day; a neighbor had agreed to watch the kid while he was at work), and they both needed to go enjoy some fresh air. Thus, the park.

Caius seemed very happy about it; he was running a lot. And since Peter was walking, it was rather strange to see; Caius running forward, then dashing back to walk with Peter for a bit, then running again.

He really needed to remember to tell his neighbor to not give Caius sugar again..

"Caius, don't-"

Too late. The little boy, who had been eagerly running ahead, and run full speed into someone.

((I figure that someone can be one of you guys xDD~ You can pick who!))

Yes, Avery thought, staying at the park had really not been a good idea at all.

The two girls had noticed him watching them. Even worse, it seemed that a woman who might've been one of the girl's mother also noticed. At best he looked like a strange hobo, at worst a strange homeless ***** watching little girls playing at the park.

He broke eye contact and proceeded to try to gather his things to make a quick get away. When he was shoving the lyre into the box, Avery noticed the snake-girl coming closer to him. Obviously she had been brought up differently than he had been. You simply did not try to interact with the weirdos in the park. It was an unwritten law. That's how kids went missing and no one ever heard from them again.

Avery hurriedly picked up the cardboard box, but his plan of fleeing the scene was interrupted as a child hurtling at approximately the speed of sound crashed into his side. Avery cried out, more in suprise than pain, and clung to the cardboard box tightly, as several of his belongings were jostled out of place -and out of the box -due to the force of the collision.

Cringing, he set the box down on the bench again. Luckily nothing fragile had fallen out.

"Could you please watch where you're going?" Avery asked, exasperated, as he turned towards the kid to make sure he was alright.

"Oh."

The flush that had crept up his neck earlier returned with a vengeance; his face had gone scarlet from mortification.

"Er. Fancy meeting you here Doctor Swann."

Ushered along by her new found half reptilian friend, Felicis stopped a good five feet away from the mysterious hobo with the box, the other substantia child and this 'doctor' guardian of his. An eyebrow arched when some of his possessions went flying, lazily scanning for anything remotely valuable she might be able to snatch up.

"Well!" The green haired little substantia began. "Now that we know you haven' been blessed with fortune or grace, tell us what you can do!" She demanded of Avery. She gave Caius an odd look a moment later and went to nudge Pomponeia gently. "He looks like us. Well, not at all like us, but you know. I told'ja we weren't that special..." She pulled on her braids, yet again. "Except for the cuteness." She added cheekily.

Selior, meanwhile, watched the scene with a muted sort of interest. In a daydreaming sort of way, he briefly wished the men were, in fact, a sort of kidnappers... of course, he wouldn't wish any harm on the children. Perhaps they could be sold into some market where they would eventually find a home with a desperate barren mother, and some time many years from now discover their Rastafarian guardian wasn't their biological parent.

A smile graced his wolfish features before, with a resentful sigh, he pushed himself up. He cracked his knuckles again and grinned impishly at Tezi. "I see a light to this whole parenting thing. Knocking creepy bums around when they get too close to my 'little princess.' Hey, GET AWAY FROM MY PUPP- KID!" He yelled, in his most intimidating voice.

Tezi was lost in the confusion. She looked at Selior and shrugged, then stood up. Brushing off her shorts, she headed over to where Pomponeia, Felicis, the hobo, a "doctor", and another Substantia stood. How nice to see all of them together. Not to mention the fact that the hobo had an item... Tezi came up next to Pomponeia and placed a soft hand on her shoulder. The girl jumped, but smiled when she looked up.
"Botha these misters have kids like us," Pomponeia explained, grinning.

Tezi looked the doctor and his child over. The Substantia was a male. He was kinda a cute little kid (she wasn't thinking this in any sort of ***** way, though).
"Hi," she said, addressing both of the new men, "I'm Tezi."
She held out a hand first to the doctor.

Pomponeia was also rather confused. She smiled at the new little boy and wondered if he really was like him. Turning to Felicis, she started to whisper.
"He's kinda cute though," she giggled softly.
Of course, when your daughter is developing a 'like' for boys at such a young age, things can turn out pretty messy. Tezi rolled her eyes.

Spinning on her tail, Pomponeia turned back to face the boy.
"What's your name?" she asked, and then added, "I'm Pomponiea, and this is Felicis."
She pointed back to Felicis, but kept her eyes on the boy.

Peter made yet another note to tell his neighbor 'no sugar', as Caius chirped out an apology, but didn't seem to want to stay still.

"Avery? Oh, I'm sorry about that...my neighbor let Caius have sugar," Peter seemed unaware of Avery's embaressment - or, in any case, was choosing to ignore it. More comfortable for them both, that way.

"Ah, yes - and you wouldn't have met him...Caius is my son."

Recent addition. Introducing him to people had been very strange.

Then he heard Selior yelling, and peered at the man; well, he supposed that Avery did look somewhat disreputable...which was strange, now that he thought about it. And why was he carrying that box around?

But, he stopped to greet the newcomers before continuing that line of thought; it would be rude not to. "Peter Swann," were the words he offered before shaking Tezi's hand, "This is Avery..."

Shifting his gaze to the man in question, he finally asked what he'd been wondering: "Why are you carrying that box with you?"

Caius, on the other hand, was happy to ignore the adults in favor of other kids. Maybe they'd want to play? His guardian was fun, but he was too slow...

"I'm Caius!"

The little boy didn't really notice or care about the fact that they all looked similar; it simply didn't matter to him. That also meant that he didn't realize they were all Substantia, but he wouldn't view that as important anyway: they were potential playmates and friends.

"Want to play?"

It was all too much for Avery. The embarassment of it all, coupled with a large scary man yelling at him (luckily from a far)... why couldn't things just have gone smoothly for once?

"Hey! I'm perfectly.. graceful" he responded rather lamely to Felicis as he attempted to edge away. Being unsure of exactly how to appease her demands that he "tell her what he could do", he decided to not do anything. At the moment, he felt not doing anything at all would be a pretty accurate portray of "what he could do".

As Peter introduced him to Tezi he gave her a small wave and a quiet, "Er, hi." Avery glanced back at Caius. who had already started to converse with the two girls. Since when did Peter have a kid? He figured it would've been mentioned atleast once before. Most people forced the subject of their children into conversation, even when it wasn't wanted.

But as Peter queried about the box, Avery was abruptly shaken from his thoughts.

"Oh. This box," he motioned towards it, deciding that he'd rather not beat around the bush, "It's my stuff, I was evicted."

Saying it aloud somehow made it more concrete and real to him, even more so than sleeping at the park had. He almost wished he had lied.

"I just kept paying the rent late, it's really not a big deal or anything." he explained hurriedly.

(( Place I usually spell check these things is down, so I can spell check it later. Anyway. If Seli is antagonizing too much feel free to let me know and I'll deal with him~))

"Actually," Felicis began, crossing her arms and arching an eyebrow at Caius. "We were playing before you crashed into the bum. But you know, you can play with us too." She informed matter of factly, giving Pomponeia a rather disturbed look. "What? Cute? Uh... okay? Anyway. We are cuter than him." She decided outloud, then took a step away from both the kids and toward Avery. To him, she smiled quite angelically and looked at his box. "I'll pretend you're graceful too if you let me see whats in your box?" She bartered as sweetly as she could.

Selior was quite perturbed. These sorts of things rarely presented the reactions he hoped for and so he walked quite slowly toward the gathering horde of people with a glare stained on his face. Gaia, he decided, was an awful place... far too many annoying characters stuck in their own ideals, worlds, powers, subquests, misinformed notions and too unbothered by the more simplistic reactions such as FEAR and DEATH and PREDATORS. Every now and then he just wanted to scare something and he was having to pick his marks much more carefully since coming to this world...

Ah, but where was he? Right, the little girl. She was bothering the hobo that would hopefully abduct her and sell her to previously mentioned barren mother, so he decided on the fly he could pretend Pomponeia was his. "Hey! You get away from my little princess, too!" He snapped at Caius. Hm, perhaps the little dark gray brat's father would get mad at him, now. Then the real fun could begin~.
