In his wagon, Taniel keeps a stock of various Banya-related items, and, on occasion, Banya. Here is where fitzcherries and other items can be found.

Banya

All Banya come with certificates of ownership. Baby Banya grow to adulthood in two to four weeks.

Charms

Charms have many different effects. As different charms are bought, they must be applied to a single Banya. The charm will then be added to the Banya's art as a decoration on the perch. Only one of each type of charm can be used per Banya, but all Banya in a wagon may have the same type of charm.

Peace charms do just what they sound like; they keep peace among the different Banya in a wagon. Banya do not always get along with each other, and their interactions can impact their fortunes, and their likelihood to fly away. For an entire wagon to be kept peaceful, all Banya must have the peace charm. As a peace charm only effects whichever Banya owns the perch it's hung upon, it only keeps that Banya's fortunes from being effected.

Some Banya have more of a tendency to fly the coop than others do. To help keep these birds home, a captivity charm can be hung from their perch. Captivity charms make it less likely for a Banya to fly away. Note that it does not make it impossible.

Price: 150 couplets

Frequency charms make Banya spout fortunes more often. However, the increase in frequency is met with an increase in obscurity.

Note: Clarity charms and Frequency charms on the same perch cancel each other out

Clarity charms make Banya fortunes more understandable. However, in return, the fortunes come less frequently.

Breeding

User Image

Fitzcherries are necessary for Banya breeding, as many people already know. Only one pair of fitzcherries is needed (and they are sold in pairs). One berry should be fed to each member of the couple, and the couple should be kept in the same wagon.

Couples must be male/female.

In a few weeks, a chick (or, rarely, two) will be born. Who the chick goes to is the owners' decision.

Every so often, unfortunately, a Banya may leave its roost. While undeniably sad, this event is not final. Taniel has, over his years of traveling, helped many a gypsy find their Banya and call it home.

If one asks, and perhaps supplies a little compensation, Taniel may lend his voice.

There are four steps to retrieving a Banya. They must be followed in order for the most part (though you can combine steps two and three if you really want to (the success rate is step three's)), and each has a certain chance of returning the Banya. At the completion of each step, Ely does a little jig behind the scenes with a random number generator. If your number falls in the appropriate range, congratulations! Your Banya is returned.

However, if it doesn't....

Well, there's always the next step on the list.

Steps

1 :: The easiest, least expensive, and least reliable step. There is always a chance that a Banya who has flown away has not gone far. If this is the case, Taniel might be able to reach it with a simple song.

Cost: Nothing
Success Rate: 25%

2 :: The next step on the list involves Taniel singing himself into a sort of self-hypnotic trance. In this trance, his voice - which works on both the audible level and an unheard level that follows the strands of the meij - is amplified. Its call reaches farther. To enter this trance, though, Taniel needs a few common items... and a small sacrifice.

Cost: A few small items and a small sacrifice (RPed)
Success Rate: 50%

3 :: If the initial trance fails, there is a way to amplify his voice along the meij strands even further. Taniel regularly restocks small, one use charms. But they're expensive, and so, to make a living and continue providing his services, he has to charge a 'materials' fee.

Cost: 50 couplets
Success Rate: 70%

4 :: There is one last ditch effort, if all else fails. One more thing can enhance Taniel's call... but it comes at a hefty price. There is a drug, made from specific plants found only in certain parts of the world, that can send his trance deeper and open up the doors to the meij for his voice. Even if the ingredients are found, the trance is so dangerous for Taniel to enter that he has to ask compensation.

Cost: 150 couplets and the required items (found only during certain parts of the RP)
Success Rate: 95%

After all of this, yes, there is a chance that your Banya may not return. Nothing can be done about this - some Banya are simply meant to stay beyond the reach of gypsies.

Name: Vahe-AvedisUser Image

Gender: Male

Stage: Animal (Snow Crested Banya)

Abilities: Fortune telling, annoying.

Origin: Captured in the Stone Mountains.

Physical Description: Vahe-Avedis is in every way a normal Snow Crested Banya. He is intransitive, ill-tempered, and amazingly beautiful. Nothing distinguishes him as anything more than a Banya. He is icy blue, dignified. He wears a charm around his neck that his owner, Taniel, gave him.

History: Taniel does not know that Vahe is a Fortunette. In fact, nobody knows. Taniel first came across Vahe during his flight into the Stone Mountains from his homelands. In need of a disguise - as a Banya trader - he bewitched Vahe with his voice. Vahe has stayed by Taniel - whether he likes it or not - since. There has never been a sign that he is anything other than a Banya...

But something lurks.

Predictions:

You will find
A Cause
A Song
One year from now
And sooner still,
a patient at your call who will bring you joy
