Tiah’s eyes shifted as she gazed down at her cubs with a look of possible pride. She had deiced to keep them and bring them up with litter information about their father as possible. She didn’t need them to know the truth about how they were conceived. When the time came, later on down the line she would... try to talk to them about it. Until then though, she would keep that to herself and somehow get them to see past the fatherless figure in their life; she would have to be both roles now and she would have to be strong.

They would need her to be.

Tilting her head to the side she yawned and spoke with a dull tone to one of her sons.

“Tahka- why don’t you go sit with your brothers?”

The red-eyed cub simply shrugged and settled himself beside his sister Sarafina. They always seemed to be side by side, stuck to one another like glue. Tiah didn’t quite understand the bond the two had but she didn’t question it any. She simply assumed that they were close siblings.

Her eyes trailed as she glanced at her cubs once more, thinking to herself. Life wasn’t going to be easy now... was it?

“Mother, can Sarafina and I... go--- play?”

Tahka forced himself to ask as she gazed up at her with narrowed eyes. He looked so cold.

“You may, but stay close alright? If I have to come looking for you I will not be happy. You hear?”

She had to be hard on them, to protect them.

“Yes.”

Tahka's eyes rolled and he slowly stood up and nudged at Srafina’s side. He wanted to get gone, and fast.

“Let's go to the water hole.”

Moving her eyes off of her cubs she gazed out at the pride lands and frowned. Everything seemed so dull now, and after her encounter with Kimua Tiah felt anger within her chest swell. Why did that side of the family get the royal treatment? She was of the royal blood and so were her cubs now... so did they did they live in two different worlds?

She snarled under her breath and rested her jaw against her paws.

Sarafina couldn't help but raise a brow at the short exchange between mother and son. She'd stayed inside that day with him, since he hadn't seemed to care to go out. It never occurred to Sarafina that her association with her red-pelted brother was anything ordinary, and thus she missed her mother's occassional querying glances. It'd been several days since their birth--counting wasn't something any of them had yet been taught though they seemed to be picking up vocabulary at an alarming rate--and so they were still learning much about the ways of the world and others about them.

At her Tahka's request she pulled herself to her feet, giving a 'playful' nudge in return that was a little harder than it should have been. With a grin she nipped his ear then took off running out the den's entrance. "Race you!"

The girl knew he'd follow--either at a run or a walk, but he would be there--and so she did not bother with waiting or even pausing before her proposal. The little brown streak ran her way past the creek that that winded its way past their den, through the tall grass down to the familiar shores of the water hole. Normally this was a dangerous place, especially when the air grew dry and the water receeded, for the predators knew that all creatures had to come here to drink. But in the Pride Lands they were the largest of the predators and those about them knew that where a lion cub went a larger one wasn't too far behind. That was the good thing of living inside a lion's territory--at least, if you were a lion.

Sarafina reached the water's edge in a matter of moments and jumped upon a large rock there to overlook the currently fast stretch of water. She knew that the 'logs' in the water were really alive, and that the pink things with long legs didn't care to chased--though that didn't make it any less fun. The world was so interesting and new when you were young... and Sarafina loved to poke at it and make it squeal. Speaking of making things squeal... Sara turned more to her side as something caught her eye. Was that a baby pink-thing...?

Grinning to herself, the female took the short leap back off of the rock and began to stalk a slow half-circle around the unaware chick.

Tahka had followed. He always followed her. His red eyes narrowed as he slowed himself to a stop and gazed at his sister with a cocked grin. He didn’t quite understand what she was doing at first but soon his eyes settled upon the pink form and with a soft frown and sat himself down and spoke.

“What are you doing?”

He wouldn’t join her. Knowing her it wasn’t going to be pretty. He let a soft yawn pass his slightly parted maw as he gazed past her and settled his sight upon the water hole. He didn’t much care for it, water and all. It was sometimes tolerable but most of the time he found it confusing and deceiving. He never could tell what was in it and that bothered him.

Slowly he moved his sight back to Sarafina and with a dull toner and roll of the eyes he spoke again.

“Leave it alone will you?”

"Why should I?" the girl retorted without taking her gaze from the doomed bird. Of course, speaking wasn't a good habit when one was stalking prey and thus the bird and its mother were alerted to the presence of the young hunter. Within a moment Sarafina found her prey had waddled back to the safety of the flock and she was left with needlessly wet paws. Her tail flicked in annoyance and the girl made a single, fluid turn to pounce upon her younger brother. "It got AWAY, Tahka!" She hissed, green eyes narrowed at him.

Of course, she never stayed mad at Tahka too long and was off of him in a moment. A snort signaled that her feelings had yet to be fully repaired, but she settled herself on the grass to lick her paws clean as she watched him through slit eyes. "What did you want to come down here for?"

Tufah had dozed off, as young cubs often do when not playing, her head resting against her mothers massive side. The rumble of the snarl had woken her. With a yawn that was bigger than it really had to be - she enjoyed the snap and click of her small teeth already - she got to her paws. A few steps and she was in a position to rub her cheek against Tiah's affectionately and look about for her siblings.

"Mother?"
PostPosted: Wed Jul 25, 2007 3:58 pm

“Yes m'love?”

Tiah purred deeply and licked at her daughter’s head roughly a few time, as if to clean her until she shined with perfection.

“Why don’t you go with them, mmm? Best not be left out of the gang, you wouldn’t want to be alone forever now would you?”

She seemed a bit harsh with her words but it was for the best. She wanted all of her cubs to have strong bonds and minds, and to gain that they all needed to develop together as a group. She didn't seem them as cubs at this time, she saw herself in every one of them- and unlike her cubhood she wouldn’t let them stray away from what needed to be done.

They would be strong, smart and unstoppable.

Tahka simply smirked as his sister's play thing ran off right before her eyes. He saw little point in wasting time with such things, and in the beck of his mind he was aiming for much bigger pray. Her hiss only made him want to aggravate her more.

“To get away.”

He stated simply. His red eyes dimmed as he gazed at her with a slight grin.

“Mat is getting on my nerves, you know? If he doesn’t look out I may just end up ripping apart that muzzle of his. He talks a lot of talk but never backs that talk up. The other day after mother got done bathing me he made some remarks that I didn’t find amusing by the least and even after I told him to shut it... he continued to displease me. I swear it, one of these days...”

He stopped for a moment and clawed at the ground below his paws in anger. Out of all of his siblings... Mat was the only one he despised. They always clashed. He fingered if he told Sara... She would aid him defeating Mat if necessary. Sara always had his back and he always had hers. He’d do anything for her.

“I also wanted to explore, away from mother.”

"Good reasons, all that," Sarafina replied slowly, one brow raising a touch higher than the other. After getting her tongue between her toes to clean them, she continued on. "You're being repetitive," The criticism was blunt, but not unkind for she knew he'd want to know. That always seemed to happen, though; whenever Mat got him riled, his tongue began to slip. Mother would have reprimanded him for it, and so Sara took over. "But yeah, I get what you mean. Best to just ignore him, for the most part.. but if you feel that strongly about it, I could do something."

Tahka had never seemed to like getting his hands dirty, so his move violent comment was a bit of a shock. She shook her head. "Its just strange for you, you have to admit that. You never like to explore with me."

Getting up, Sara stretched herself again and looked about the area. "You had some place in mind, didn't you?" She really knew him too well.

“Oh Sarafina, m’dear sister, don’t be so quick to judge. I have always wanted to go… exploring with you; I’m just not as well equipped as you are.”

As he spoke he stretched out his lean form and wrinkled his nose some. It was true, she was a bit bigger than him frame wise and she seemed to enjoy getting dirty more then he did. He wasn’t like her in that aspect; he was very clean and liked to sit at the sidelines any time anything happened that involved getting dirty or roughing around.

There were very few occasions that he did... put effort into though, like whenever she wanted to play fight or wrestle, he would put aside his pride and do it for her, but that was usually all he would do. His mother had to force him to participate him the hunting they family did together but he was never punished for it. His mother treated him so well.

“Mmm, can you really read me so well?”

He questioned and pushed his head under her chin for a moment, purring as he slowly passed her by. His red pelt looked so lovely beside hers, they complemented each other perfectly.

“When I was resting with mother the other day I overheard her talk about a place that she would never trail off to, a place that she feels has taken so much out of her life. She called it Pride Rock, and said that’s where the royals live, lazing about all day without a care in the world, while we suffer against this godforsaken heat and lack of proper companionship. When I asked her why she disliked it so she simply said: "They don’t see us as royals- so why should I see them as anything but what the truly are? Lazy, good for nothing backstabbers."

And so now... I wish to go to this palace; I want to see it with my own two eyes. I do wonder what made her dislike them, after all... grandfather-"

He stopped for a moment as if the reason had just come to him. A sick, sly smirk drew across his face as he gazed at Sara darkly.

"Oh, how bittersweet."

"They're in a pair for the moment, mama. You don't butt in on pairs it's rude." Tufah explained, watching her siblings with an odd mix of affection and jealousy. She loved her siblings dearly but it was a bit annoying how they were 'twins' while she was stuck alone. But no matter, she'd do fine plotting alone. She was strong.

"Besides mother, you could always teach me...or tell me the story of Taka. I like that one."

Lazying around as usual, he noticed that the rest of his siblings were gone... again. It was a usual habit of his to find a sibling, plop down beside them and just be there. Not entirely part of the conversation until spoken to or an interesting topic arises. The last thought he could recall was that he and another sibling had moved a bit from the home, looking around, he could see the family not too far off. At least they didn't leave him.

Approaching the group, his emerald gaze fell down onto the brother he enjoyed to annoy and pester, mock and taunt. With a few feet between them, he made his move. Luckily, he heard the end of Tahka's conversation.

"Well, for once, Tahka says something remotely intelligent," Ironically, Mat was not the sharpest tool in this family shed. He was brawn over brain, he would gladly listen to any suggestion his siblings gave him if he were in the middle of a fight or something. Otherwise, he would simple ignore them or twist it to make it annoying or trouble for them. He moved over and glanced around at the other faces of the group.

For the past few days, he has had this strange cub following him around, getting himself into trouble and what not. He shared the same pelt as the Royals themselves... perhaps that bit of information would best kept his own secret... at least for now.

"So where do you all plan on going? That promoter... that big thing with that pointy thing sticking out of it?" Like mention, he was not the smartest of the litter.

"Nonsense. You’ll go off with them and that’s that. I would rather you all play together then just have the pair be a pair. It’s rude to leave someone out and I won’t have it. Besides, I need some rest from the sun and I am in no mood to tell you stories right now dear. So move along before they stray too far.”

Her eyes rolled back as she nuzzled her cub and pushed her off some, as if to show her that there would be no 'buts' about it.

“Ugh... I thought I smelt s**t.”

Tahka snarled as Mat wondered in on the conversation. Oh how he despised him.

He didn’t make an effort to inform Mat of the plans though, he would leave that to Sara, if she felt like talking about it.

Sara returned her brother's per as she listened to his little monologue. Her eyes narrowed slightly at the mention of the 'pride rock.' She hadn't yet been there yet, but she had heard of it from various other sources.. indeed, hadn't it been in their mother's bedtime stories? She thought that it had. The further the explanation with, the more her mind was in line with Tahka's.

Indeed, her own mouth stretched into a nearly identical smirk as his did. "Isn't it ju--"

The juvenile's face deadpanned as she was interrupted by the brother they had just been discussing. Turning her glance to him, the sister's hackles began to raise slightly. Normally she didn't care either for or against their elder brother, but Tahka's voiced opinion coupled with Mat's tendency to butt in on things that didn't concern him rankled her hide. "What we plan to do has nothing to do with you," She informed him quite matter of fact-ly. "Putting your nose into another's conversation is rude, just ask mother."

That said she turned her head to smooth down her shoulder's again. "And its called Pride Rock."

When she'd gotten her pelt smooth once more, Sarafina rose to her feet and stretched. "Ready, Tahka?"

"Have you been up Pride Rock before? It's nice." With one last eyeroll at her mother's insistance, Tufah had wandered over to her siblings. She'd caught the last few words of Sarafina and strove for common ground there. She'd been up Pride Rock already. It was her 'Mecca' and as soon as she'd been able to she'd run off there for a look.

"Sorry to interrupt, but mother said I should tag along." She shrugged at this apology, not really sorry. Tufah knew already that Tahka and Sarafina came as a twosome - they weren't called the 'Twins' lightly after all. And Mat...well. He'd just have to put up with her.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 22, 2007 9:58 am

"As rude as it is, I would prefer to have my brothers and sisters around..." he replied plainly. He had to be around at least one of them but it seemed like the group was going somewhere. Pride Rock, or the big rock with the pointy thing sticking out of it, seems to be the Twin's destination. He looked at Tahka, flicking an ear to a sideward position.

Mat looked over at Tahka and shrugged. "There's a lot of it on the ground. Could have stepped in it." he calmly replied. Then again, he's always laying on the ground so it coule have been possible for him to...

Mat moved over to Tufah, his sort of favorite of the group. She seemed to be around more often which gave him someone to be with for a while, aside from Haiba. Looking back on it, he has not seen Shou for some time now, he opened his maw to say something, but closed it at the second thought. He had other things to do, he supposed.

"Hello, Tufah."

“Tufah.”

Tahka bowed his head slightly as his other sister came into play. He didn’t much mind her, in fact- he enjoyed her company more then she knew. She took after mother a lot though, so… his feelings toward her were more of a love-hate kind of thing. But he did care nonetheless.

“Anyway.”

He rolled his eyes at Mat and shifted himself to face only his sisters. He was never kind to his brother after all.

“What are we going to do now that the dead weight showed up?”

He glanced at Mat as he spoke, frowning rudely. He wished that someone else had come in his place, even Haiba would have been a nice change.
