I'm having a really hard time figuring out where to start. I'm new to this so I was hoping I could get suggestions?

Go to www.zompist.com/kit.html . That's the best place to start; it walks you through the processes of language construction.
Start with the phoneme inventory and work from there. surprised

I agree. That's a great source. I refer to it almost daily. I suggest doing grammar first, and then finding a word list to translate. So just follow the zompist step-by-step and translate that "essential word list" that's in the forum. Then you should be set! Good luck! 3nodding mrgreen

Yes, actually. You have very much so. I was purusing (sp?) the guild and I noticed all of the stuff on toki pona and have started trying to learn it. I figure that if I get the hang of some of the phrases of toki pona then I will learn more about the sounds and have a better basis on which to stand to make up my own conlag instead of the english, spanish, and little swedish I know. Do I sound reasonable at least? mi wile mi lawa e pilin.

That's a very good idea. Usually after you learn languages you start implimenting them into your own. (Like Japanese, German, and French in Niora, my conlang.) Good luck! 3nodding
You can ask me for help anytime via PM, but I'm usually snooping around the guild. whee
