Cloudy days were so boring, and it always seemed to take longer to find something fun to do when the sky was all grey. It probably had something to do with the lack of sunlight that just made it harder to be really cheerful- and Tetemeko had spent quite enough of his time coming to that conclusion as he failed to come up with something fun to do right away. Luckily, as he just wandered around hoping to find someone to play, he'd found something to do. When going byt he waterhole, Tete randomly seemed to decide to try digging.

His first attempts had been fruitless, for he wasn't very good at digging and the first bit of ground he tried on was quite hard. The ground by the waterhole, however, was much softer- mud almost. It was much easier to push out of the way to dig holes, if you didn't mind getting dirty. So that was how Tetemeko decided to spend some of his afternoon, digging as far as he could and seeing if he happened to find anything interesting under there.

Sineri was laying on a rock, enjoying the coolness of the shade of a tree, and equally enjoying the little spots of warmth on her coat made by the sun filtering through the leaves, those patches of heat drifting over her golden fur and changing place with every light breeze that moved the branches. Home, this morning, had been particularly noisy, and she had been needing quiet. The little cub loved to relax and sun herself; it was a much treasured pastime. And it was just horrid when such pleasurable - if lazy and inactive - things were interrupted, as Sineri was about to find out.

What Tetemeko didn't realise, however, was that the deeper his digging went, the higher and further the mud he removed was flung. Further and further it went, until one rather large glob of it landed right on the petite femme's head. Understandably startled, her crimson eyes snapped open and her honey-brown-dipped ears laid flat against her skull. She could feel something clinging to her head, and instinctively her paw reached up to wipe at it. Upon seeing that it was thick, dirty, dark mud, her eyes widened in alarm, and she rubbed furiously at her head. She knew it would not be clean, though. It wouldn't be clean unless she gave it thorough attention.

With most of it off, so she couldn't feel it there any more, she sat up, her head rising above the patch of long grass that had hidden her from Tetemeko's view, her colouring blending perfectly in with the yellowed brush, and looked around for the moron throwing mud. She intended to give this individual a stern talking to. Her narrowing eyes landed on the digging Tetemeko. "HEY! You over there! What do you think you're doing? STOP getting MUD all over me!" There was an amount of dramatism in her voice that would have fitted her demanding he stop trying to kill her, rather than just get her dirty. No one had ever said she wasn't a drama queen, and a smear of mud on her head gave her every reason to be dramatic - OCD hate of being dirty was apparently hereditary.

The little lion kept digging enthusiastically, humming tunelessly as he did just to keep himself entertained. He had no idea what he might be looking for, or why he would be digging the hole, but it certainly gave him something to do and that alone seemed good motivation to him. He was so engrossed in his work, that he didn't even hear the commotion he caused for one lioness until she was nearby and yelling over at him for throwing the mud. Once spoken to, Tetemeko immediately paused in his efforts to turn and look for who was scolding him for it.

His eyes fell on a golden lioness, and from the strange, unnatural look a dark patch on her head had it seemed she had been hit by a stray pawful of mud. The fact she accused him of that directly helped him draw that conclusion.

"Oh? Sorry," he apologized, grinning sheepishly at her, "I didn't mean to get any mud on you.." Tete himself was quite muddy. His front legs were caked with mud, making strange patches on his after brown fur, and the rest of him looked exactly as one might expect from a cub playing in the mud. If nothing else, he looked like he'd been having fun- unless perhaps you were the type who'd never dream of any such thing being fun.

That apology was not nearly enough to mollify the dishevelled - in her view - young lioness. She absolutely detested being dirty, and mud was the worst. Dust could be patted off, if there wasn't too much of it, with a little light grooming afterwards to make sure. Mud, however, stuck to the fur and clung there. Only a wash and then a thorough grooming could hope to get it off. Oh, a sorry really wouldn't cut it right now.

Stiffly, she hopped off the rock she'd been sunning herself on and walked toward the water, managing to look regal as she did so, despite the splatter of mud on her head. She went to the edge of the water, and giving him a look, as if to say 'it's YOUR fault I have to do this', she dunked her head quickly under the surface, lifting a paw to scrub it over the mud stain. When she resurfaced, it looked better, even though there was still a dark patch on her fur. She shook her head to get rid of the excess water, then sat daintily as her paw again rose, this time so she could lick it and then raise it even higher to begin rubbing at the remaining dirt.

Eyeing him again, and not too happily, she continued on in an irritated tone, "You should make sure no one's around before you start flinging mud every which way, y'know. Look what you did to my fur!" She huffed lightly, apparently not just insulted but a bit upset by this.

Tetemeko watched with a raised eyebrow as it became clear that his apology was insufficient, and then as she gave him a rather unpleasant look as she went to wash the mud off of her head. He had to hold back a laugh, despite feeling somewhat guilty about it. Somehow the youth kept himself quiet, and only slightly did his face twitch against his attempt at a serious expression.

"I guess I'll know for next time," he answered matter-of-factly, nodding and cracking a small smile, "It's only a little mud, it's already almost out of your fur."

"That's not the point," she replied tartly, though of course it was exactly the point. She just wouldn't accept that. Her OCD about being clean made an incident like this the ultimate insult - even if it was an accident, a completely innocent one at that. Tetemeko was just lucky Sineri didn't catch his face twitching like that. She would have guessed he was about to laugh, and he'd have seriously been in trouble then.

"You got me dirty, and it's going to take forever to get clean," she said, in an obvious overstatement, for most of the dirt was gone from her golden fur. Still, she continued to cycle of licking at her paw and then rubbing at the top of her head, peering at Tetemeko from underneath her leg.

Tetemeko stopped almost laughing and became more serious, though he continued to smile. It seemed so funny to him that an accident could cause such trouble, though he was a little disappointed that he'd made her so mad. He hadn't done it on purpose, after all! If it didn't seem so ridiculous, he might have felt a lot worse. He inhaled as he tried to think of a good response, since his apology obviously wasn't getting him anywhere.

"Well, at least your heads not really fuzzy or you'd have a lot harder time getting the mud out," he nodded matter-of-factly, "And it's not a really light color." Tete did not mean to imply it'd be worse for him to get mud on his head, though that was certainly the way it appeared. Certainly, if he cared about such things, it would be a lot harder for him to get the dirt out of his mane and all the white and silver fur. He was only trying to make her feel better about it.

Sin chose not to answer Tetemeko right away, instead turning around so her back was toward him, showing off the markings there that were identical to those of her father. And her brother, Shaji, of course, though his were a greenish colour that Sineri had yet to decide if she liked or not. But whether or not she liked Shaji's colouring was not what was paramount on her mind right now. She was checking to see if she was clean or not. The shadowy water didn't reveal much, but from what she could see, she looked clean enough. She could wait until she got home now, and then her father could clean her off properly. But she wasn't going back yet; still nettled from becoming dirty, the cacophony of noise at the den wasn't inviting.

Turning back to him with a flick of her black-tipped tail, she again sat where she had been before, tilting her head with a raised eyebrow at his words, for they described him quite clearly. "That sounds like you... light fur, and you're starting to get a mane. It's hard to get mud out of your fur because of that? Then why get muddy?" She couldn't really grasp the thought that getting dirty could be fun. It always seemed so... icky to her.

A pair of curious brown eyes watched as Sineri turned away mysteriously, though Tetemeko shortly figured out why she turned around and discovered he wasn't really surprised. In fact, he wouldn't have been too surprised if she'd walked off after making sure that was the only place he'd gotten the mud. After all, it seemed he'd really upset her when he accidentally struck her. He was a bit distracted when he finally noticed the marking on her back, and how familiar it was despite being a different color than the one he'd seen before.

She had the same color fur as Shaji did, had the same marking in the same place, it seemed very likely that they would be related. When Sin turned around to ask him about the pleasure in getting muddy, he was smiling more genuinely.

"Yeah, I guess that does sound like my fur, but I have fun when I get muddy so that's more important to me," he nodded sagely, then leaned over a bit to emphasize a glance towards the marking on her back, "Do you know Shaji? He has that same marking."

She wrinkled her nose slowly as Tetemeko spoke of getting dirty as being fun, really not understanding how that could be so. It was icky, and yucky, and dirty, and quite often smelly. Where was the fun in that, she wondered. It seemed pointless to her to deliberately get dirty, and then have to spend so long cleaning oneself to get it all off. No, she wanted no part of that, and privately thought anyone who did was crazy.

"Fun?" she asked, though, unable to help herself. "Why is it fun to get all dirty and smelly?" She asked this with honest curiosity, wanting to know. It just didn't seem possible to her that dirt and fun could go paw-in-paw. Tetemeko's next question surprised her, though. She would never have expected that this lion would know her brother, and her surprise showed in the way her eyebrows lifted. "Uzalishaji, you mean? He's my brother. You know him?"

Tete knew he'd have to explain why he found such a thing fun, and to emphasize his point he skipped on around his little hole in the mud to show it off. It wasn't going to explain itself, and he probably wouldn't look much more sane because of it but he had fun with what he did. He chose to enjoy himself rather than obsessing over something that wasn't so much fun, though he usually did have to work hard to get clean when he ended up this dirty. But that was part of what dad was for, he figured.

"I dug this hole," he announced proudly, "I don't know why but I was going to figure it out after I did it. Sometimes it's just fun to do what you want without worrying about being dirty or smelly, at least while you're doing it."

With that, he plopped into a comfortable sitting position as she questioned him more. So he'd been right to think that they were related! They had the same mark, it made sense. They were almost like TWINS, that was kind of neat. "Yeah, him," he nodded, "I met him the other day, he was nice. I'm Tetemeko, by the way~"

Sineri's eyebrows lifted high and her eyes widened as she watching Tete dance and hop around the hole he'd dug, which she didn't find impressive at all, and wondered quietly if he wasn't lacking something mentally. If he wasn't, he was just weird, and that wasn't much better. The fact that Shaji knew him might have endeared Tete to her a bit if Shaji wasn't so... well... eager to believe that everyone was good and perfect and nice. She knew her brother was gullible, but sweet with it. But he would notice if someone was leaning toward the insane or not.

She looked at the hole he seemed so proud of for a moment, before looking back up at him, obviously really not getting it. "... It's just a hole. It doesn't seem special..." Trails off, brow furrowing, a bit confused as to why Tete thought it was.

She nodded in agreement to that; anyone who met Shaji had to agree that he was nice. "Yeah, he is. He's always been sweet." Again she nodded, this time in recognition of his introduction. "I'm Sineri."

Tetemeko could easily see it in her expression that she was very, very unimpressed with his digging and explanation. It was obviously not going to be easy to explain the concept of it to her, it was almost like she thought he was crazy for having fun. Clearly he was going to have to explain this another way.

"Well, Sineri, what do you do for fun?" he asked, trying to think of a way to explain it right. If he really tried, Tete could use logic.
PostPosted: Fri May 25, 2007 3:15 pm

Sineri frowned ever so slightly. She didn't like where this conversation was supposedly leading. It seemed to her that Tetemeko was planning to compare her idea of fun with getting dirty, and that just didn't sit quite well with her. There was no way she would ever think soiling her fur deliberately would be fun, and she was sure, even after whatever little explanation he was about to make, that she'd still think anyone who did was crazy.

She decided to indulge him and answer his questions, though. "I like to sun myself. It's relaxing and peaceful. And I like to spend time with my dad."

Tete expected not to get an enthusiastic reply, and wasn't all that surprised when she mentioned her father. Shaji had spoken highly of him, he probably was a fun father- or at least his cubs thought so! He nodded slowly as he considered what she suggested as her own fun.

"What if someone did something to stop you from sunning yourself? Or something stopped you from spending time with your dad?" he asked, tilting his head and smiling as he tried to make his point, "If I let a little bit of dirt stop me from doing fun things, I wouldn't have much fun. Or- I wouldn't have the same fun. I'd have to find something else. Which is what you do." The young lion got to his feet, deciding to make himself more presentable since Sineri was nice enough to let him at least try to make his point. He stepped around his hole, and into the water hole to try to get some of the mud off of his legs before it really dried into his fur.
