1: Why is Doumeki/Watanuki called '104'?
It's because of their names (as rendered in Japanese). You see…

2: What about 'Donuts'?
Some people think that it is the 'Do' from Doumeki and 'Nu' from Watanuki and since Doumeki makes Watanuki crazy...might as well make it Donuts (which also, conveniently, sounds like 'go nuts').

3. How is Watanuki's name read as 'April 1st'?
It's not read exactly as 'April 1st', since the Japanese way of listing the date is different from English--so you can quit looking for the 'one' in his name! The kanji reads, literally, four (四-shi) month (月-gatsu) first (一-ichi) day (日-nichi)--Fourth month, first day...which is the first of April, of course. And, added to the fact that he is named for his birthday, his family name is also a pun. This is because family names are sometimes written with idiosyncratic characters, called ateji, that relate indirectly to the name as spoken. For example, 四月一日 would normally be read as shigatsu tsuitachi (April 1st), but as a family name it is read watanuki (unpadded clothes), because April 1st is the traditional date to switch from winter to summer clothes. This is probably how Yuuko knew, without being told, the spelling of Watanuki's family name in volume one since it's a rather obvious reference to a very particular date.
