How do you make electric guitars "screech?".... is there another term for that? ninja

Feedback? Crank up the volume and hold the guitar next to the amp. The magnetic field of the pickups and the speaker create the delicious feedback that Hendrix mastered. It helps to hit the back of the guitar and do so.

I could name a hundred things on guitar that could make a sound that could be described as screeching (easiest being play it badly lol ). Can you be more specific? What song/guitarist did you hear the technique from?
Though like 409 in your coffee said it could be feedback. Speaking of Hendrix, anybody catch that documentary on the BBC the other night? That bit Clapton said at the end nearly made me cry! cry He was such a great guitarist...

Oh man I missed it. I'm obsessed with the guy, I have his lyrics tattooed on my leg. I'll have to look for that though.

one good way i know of to make it screech is to slide the pick on its side down the length of the strings above the pickups. you have to do it on the right strings though, because it'll just sound like scratching on the others.

Well tell us where you heard it and we'll tell you what it is. Feedback only sounds good if you know what you're doing, so it'll probably sound s**t at first. 409 in your coffee Oh man I missed it. Hmm... screeching to me would sound a lot like pinch harmonics. But, like they said, explain where you heard it before.

I know what you're talking about, 409 in your coffee, and i tried it... but that's not quite what i meant. But when i did that, i figured out how to make the "screeching" noise i was talking about.
sorry i couldn't have been more specific, but i didn't really know how to explain it. sweatdrop

If you're talking about "squealing", the way to do that is to hit a pinch harmonic and, assuming you have a Floyd Rose Tremolo system, whammy up.
Feedback is when the you turn your amp up really loud and the sound waves hit your strings in such a way that it makes "feedback". Just crank up the gain and volume and hold the guitar close to the speakers.
You could always get a guitar teacher, though.
