Do you find you have trouble sleeping before exams or tests or even just in general? The following suggestions are not treatments or official remedies, but keep in mind that they work well for me...which is a BIG thing. I mean I'm up, right now, at 3 a.m. typing this out xDD...
Tea: Always go with the tea remedy first. Ginger tea and chamomile are always excellent options.
A warm glass of...: MILK! Sleep like a baby! (Add honey if you want!)
Posture: Often lack of comfort is a cause of lack of sleep. I suggest not sleeping on your left side, however. It slows your heartbeat down to dangerous levels. Make sure there aren't any lumps in your mattress and move around until you feel calm...or something.
Music: Listen to soft rock, classical, Celine Dion lol ...anything that'll put you to sleep.
Gel Eye Masks: I'm not saying go out and buy one, if all else fails...I just think it's a good idea. It's specifically for your eyes and you keep it in the fridge or freezer. Usually the freezer is too cold...But when everything fails the cool, gel eye mask does the trick. It's preventing you from opening your eyes, it feels good (if it isn't too cold), and it's just pure laziness involved. xD I love it!
Milk...again!?: Yes, milk does wonders. Use milk when massaging your feet. o.o''' Odd, but effective.
Anybody like curd?: This isn't really one of my own, originals I've learned, but scientifically proven. Eating curd is very good for helping you sleep better. Not only that, if you're desperate to sleep and don't care what mess you're making, massage your head with curd. It induces sleep. =)
Thiamine & Vitamin B: Good for insomnia.***
Readingggg: Yes, reading can make you tired, late at night, with only your book light on.
Youtubing: It knocks me out at night. I'll just youtube connected videos after connected videos until I literally fall out of my chair. Or sometimes I take my laptop to bed with me. ;DD
PLEASE DO NOT:
Take allergy medicine: It isn't healthy to use Benadryl Exra Strength to knock you out every night. Trust me. Been there, done that.
Sleeping Pills: Don't take 'em unles you're doctor says so. But even if he/she says so, try natural methods FIRST. Meds ******** up the system.
Read in the dark: Not good for the eyes. I suggest some light!
Naps: Napping is a waste of time. Power napping is good. One or two hours of catching up on sleep is good, but napping for too long destroys not only your sleeping habits, but your bodily functions. xDD
Eating?: Eating after 8 p.m. is bad enough, but any later than 10 and you're really creating issues not only for your health and weight, but for your sleep. Even if you don't digest that fast at night, it's not the bathroom visit you should be worried about, it's the fact that food is sitting in your intestine and stomach all night. D< EW.
Most of these work for insomniacs too...not serious cases though. If it were serious, I suggest you visit a doctor. I hope you find these helpful! Please suggest any additional "remedies".
BTW, if reading all that didn't make you fall asleep, I don't know what will. xDDD

Reading usually helps for me, Ive got a bunch of books coming tomorrow, so hopefully Ill be able to induce a normal sleeping pattern then.
I can never sleep the night before an exam or plane trip. And in general cant seem to turn my brain off at night.
Wonderful topic <3

I love this topic. ;D
Extremely helpful! I usually read things on my computer until I'm tired. Either that or the computer loses it's appeal to me for that night and I prolong my stay on it so I become tired.

[.Fred.Is.Dead.] I listen to music... and just think so I get bored and fall asleep. I think too much. xS It's why I can't take long walks and drives sometimes...Especially if I'm not in the mood to think.
Music works well. It drowns out my thoughts. xd

I recommend a mallet!
whee
I had about half a year where I was struggling to sleep. I'd tried everything - teas, herbal remedies, changing my sheets every night, changing the layout of my room, changing pillows...
It helped to find out why I wasn't able to sleep. It was due to stress. Once I'd hit that problem head on, I was able to sleep again.
Oh, and watching golf or math programs helped me to sleep.

I sometimes start daydreaming in my bed, which makes me fall asleep quicklier. It depends on the subject I'm daydreaming off, though. xD

Well, since I'm a Lush-addict, I always use these items:
Sleepy Head Deep Sleep
At first I was like:"Yeah, right", but it worked for me biggrin .

You know what works for me?
Just picture a blank, empty wall.
Then put a chalkboard on it.(In your mind, do this, of course.)
Then, put a little shelf thing, with an eraser and a piece of chalk.
With the hand you write with, (IN YOUR MIND!) pick up the chalk, and draw a 100, really slowly across the chalkboard. Put the chalk down.
Then, Pick up the eraser with the hand you don't write with. Erase the number very slowly.
Then, do 99. 98. 97. And on and on. I've never got past 80. Works every time.
