This is the forum where you can post your SuWriMos novels for this year, 2011! You can either post your novel or just part of it in this forum, or you can make a thread with a link if you're posting it someplace else. Some things to remember if you want people to read your novel: Use the default alignment, font size, and color when posting.
Double-space your paragraphs if possible.
Since this is just a rough draft errors are to be expected, but not so many that your story is unreadable. Capitalize, use spellcheck, etc. The basic stuff.
Unless your chapters are super-short, try to keep it to one chapter per post. If your chapters are really long, you may want to break them up into two or three posts.
In your first post, specify if you want comments/critiques or not.
If you don't want people to read your story but you still want to post it for whatever reason (to have a backup copy, to have a friend read it, whatever) make sure to specify that in the title of your thread or the first post!

Can we post excerpts of what we're writing? I want to post this on Fictionpress (because it's part of a bigger work) but I'm afraid that if I post it on here people will read it on here and won't review it on FP because they did on here.

I have a question- not sure if you can answer it, but here goes.
If I post my novel on here, is it still eligible to be published? ( I know, high hopes. )
Just wondering, 'cause I've heard some horror stories from my Shiny Author Friends who have posted their book online before it was picked up and then told it couldn't be because it was "previously published" and the public could retrive it for free so the company wouldn't make any profit by printing it.

Probably not. Posting it on the web constitutes first publishing rights, so what happened to your friends will likely happen to you.

The story I am writing for SuWriMo isn't really broken up into chapters; so should I just make a new post with every break (time/scene changes)? Or would you prefer I just posted it on FictionPress or some site and linked with a small excerpt in my post?
p.s. Cute avatar! I love those eyes so much, I think they'll be on every avatar I make for a long, long time.

From what I understand you can usually get around that by posting it somewhere that not everyone can access it, like a private livejournal or blogger blog. That way you can just invite specific people to read it without having it available to the general public.

If you want to post it here and don't want a new post for every single break you can just put a dotted line or whatever and try to find the post character limit. razz If you want to link it, go ahead. This isn't OS/P - I don't mind if people make threads with just a link here.

Is there a certain type of rating the novels will have to be? Like no above PG-13? If so, I'm not entirely sure if my story would go above or not, it has suggestive things in it. Though other than that it really doesn't have any type of sexual activity, or goriness.
It does however have a bit of swearing involved, but it isn't like every other word.

If you are posting it on Gaia, it needs to be PG-13 maximum, by Gaia's ToS. Posting something with a higher rating would have to be off-site.
I guess the actual question of a limit for SuWriMos can only be answered by Radioactive Alchemist. I wouldn't imagine that there's a rating limit, though.

I think the bigger question is "What's PG-13?". X3 You can usually do okay with a T for Teen type thing. Meaning your characters can swear. They can have suggestive dialogue, violence and adult situations - unless it gets very graphic. You can say two characters had sex, but if you describe genitals in contact, that would probably be too much. Violence is okay, but if it's something extremely disturbing, you might be pushing it.
If the worst your story has is suggestive dialogue, I think it's probably fine. You can include a warning before the story or chapter if you think some people might like to avoid it. Or if it comes to a part you think might be too graphic for Gaia, you can always rewrite a "clean" paragraph or just leave the section out with a note like *censored for content*.
Hope some of that was helpful.
