A leopard rested at the base of the tree. He was young, and despite not living spoiled by anything, he was healthy. He was licking his claws now, cleaning them from having scratched the tree, wich indeed seemed like it had seen better days. He was kind of bulky, largeish, because he had been the single born from his litter, and no one to share his parents with. But now he didn't live with them anymore. Actually, he even thought one was dead.

Now, he lived with a lion, a cheetah, and they're little halfbloods. Not very pleasent, but what else could he do? He wouldn;t return to the jungle to face his father-- perhaps he didn't even know his mother was dead. Usiku sighed, gloomy, and swished his tail over the dusty ground, making crackling sounds from the bones of something--perhaps a hare. Perhaps something had eaten here and left it. But it was just bones now, no use to him.

He twitched his ears, looking around. Sukari would probably come for him soon enough, maybe for a duty, or just to make sure he wasn't leaving. But as far as things went, he was pretty loyal, if only for the fact that he saw no reason to leave. Quietly, the male stretched his legs, kneading the ears with his nails and piercing through the grass, his legs back behind him, just enjoying the stretch for once, bringing e slight feeling of relaxation when he coiled up again.

"CUB!" Sukari yelled, meandering over to a tree that Usiku happened to be near. She'd looked all over, and none of her offspring knew it's location. She had a simple task for it, as she always had had thus far. She wanted it to play with the children and watch the wild dog- whelp so she could go train. She was getting a little flabby around the muscles- which deeply concerned her. She heard the rustle which gave away his position.

"Hey, haven't you heard me?" She demanded angrily- indignified. "What have you got to say for yourself?" She asked, forgetting completely about what she'd come here to do.

Usiku's ears twitched. He'd been right. Stretching, calmly, he got to his paws, but didn't show any defiance he probably would have to any one else. Instead he dipped his head. "Sorry. I was sharpening my claws. " The males tail swished against the ground, as he looked at the lioness. She had been what had kept him from dying so far. He'd learned how to hunt while with her, seeing as his own hunting classes with his mother were... To say the least, interrupted.

"Would you like me to do anything, Sukari? " he asked nonchallantly, lifting his head to look at her more propeerly. He may not look so troubled now, but he was actually sort of a trainwreck. Usiku was followed by guilt. He believed he had caused the death of someone, his own mother, and even though he wasn't aware, she wasn't actually dead. Oh, poor messed up boy.

Sukari couldn't have cared less anymore about the boy's mother or father. Everything she'd said to him back near the jungle had been a lie- a facade to make him follow her. She was a lot colder now, especially since they were so far away from the jungle. He'd have to have an amazing sense of direction to make his way back! She chuckled on the inside.

"Ah, yes," She said after being pleased with the cub's response. Perhaps one day he'd become a perfect little warrior for her, it was the only reason she gave him a tad more liberty than the whelp. Well, that, and the fact that he was a feline. "My boys, they should be asleep, but they may not be. I'd like you to keep an eye on them while I'm out, and make sure the dog doesn't get off anywhere. I hope you don't mind," She added, the sentence acting more as a threat than a question.

Watching the cubs again. The adolescent nodded calmly, and moved to pass her and go in the direction of the camp. "Anything else? " He asked, flicking his tail and turning his head to look at her, a paw caught in mid step and hovering above the ground.

His tail curled, the white ring making it look slightly thicker than it was. The dog wasn't trouble; leopards were already larger than wild dogs anyway. and this one was young, and blind. Perhaps they were taller, but the felines sitll held the bulk. The cubs didn't normally give a challange, just when they tried running off and seeming funny.

He'd obey with no objection, as that was all he could do. He rolled a shoulder a bit, the one wich the paw wasn't off the grounnd, trying to get rid of that annyoing feeling when you needed to snap a bone. It wasn't sucesfull, howerever, and he'd have to do that another time.

"Has there ever been anything else?" Sukari asked angrily. She hated stupid questions. "I've heading out, I'll be back later," she said, turning and heading off. "Don't mess up," she muttered under her breath as she went.

Fenris meandered in front of the opening to the den. Everything was dull, he couldn't visit Ryega because he was sleeping, and he couldn't play with his brothers, because they were sleeping too! How truly boring. He kicked a rock out of the way and plopped down moodily, looking out the corner of his eye to the horizon over which his mother had gone.

More often than you think. He thought to himself, but shrugged it off, and trotted in the direction of the camp.

It wasn't long to reach it for Usiku, with his large strides. The first thing he saw, was green, the son, Fenris. He nodded in acknowledgement, and sniffed at the dens entrance just for a moment, to see if the others were in there, and it seemed so.

Usiku never slept in with them, maybe he had, once or twice, he wouldn't remember. But either way, it'd be to cramped. "Hello Fenris. " He muttered, flopping on the ground lazly, his limbs relaxed quickly as he made sure he'd see any activity of something leaving the den. "Everyone is asleep? " He asked, twitching his tail. Fenris wasn't exactly.. bossy, as far as he knew. He just didn't like being swarmed in the kids, not quite liking the idea.

Fen perked up when he saw the new guy coming towards the den. He knew the brown creature was a leopard, but he didn't know much about the individual. Usiku... That was his name. At least it wouldn't be so boring anymore. He was always interested by the leopard- he had the same color eyes as his father, adn three stripes on his back like his mother did. Sometimes he wondered if the creature wasn't his brother from a different litter, somehow working out that a leopard can come from a lion and a cheetah. It made him feel less... different.

"Hi Usiku," he said, rising to his feet. "Yeah, everyone's asleep," he answered. "Everyone but me." He looked over at the red spot and wished he could confide in the leopard too. However, he didn't know Usiku that well yet, and didn't trust him with such important information. "How have you been doing?" He asked, figuring it'd be a good conversation starter.

"Terrible, if you really must know. " Not that Usiku was going to be all that secretive about his mothers death if the creature asked, it wasn't really a secret, was it? Was it a secret that he was terrible? He twitched his tail idly, and flexed his claws against the ground, folding his ears back. If only he'd been this strong back then. If only it had been these few weeks later!

"How about you? " He didn't quite look directly at the half-breed, though. Instead, he kept his eyes more towards the dens entrance, then finally looked at it, with piercing green eyes, cold, but not spiteful. Usiku had become so bitter now. It wasn't Fenris' fault, but that look just wouldn't leave, no matter what he tried to do to lighten up.

Fenris was used to the coldness of eyes around here. All of his brothers and his father had the same color, so he was accustomed to the icy gaze, he even found it comforting. Everyone but dad and his brothers around here were bitter too, and he was used to that aura coming from people.

"I'm sorry," he said to the leopard's answer. "I'm sure things will get better soon," he offered, hoping to make Usiku feel better. A little less gloom would be nice around here, and Fenris always had the energy to try to lighten the mood.

"I've just been bored," he said. Mom and dad had picked a fairly desolate area to set up camp this time- nothing but dry grass and periodic dirt patches. If he was lucky, he'd stumble across a grasshopper that he could chase, or even maybe a rabbit or something, but there were few critters outside of his "family" with which he could interact. "Everyone's asleep, or if not, really tired," Fen said, plopping his head back down onto his paws. He extended a claw and etched a little circle into the dirt, making it deeper with each turn.

"Of course. Just gtta wait till someone raises from the dead. " He said bitterly, but seemed to regret it a bit, why pick on the cub? He must be bad.

He looked at the little thing. It was probably one of the least bad of the four, never made him do anything, or tried to yell at him. He might as well entertain it a bit. "So lets find something for you to do. " He shrugged. He couldn't get very distracted himself, so tag and hide and seek were ou of question-- besides, he wasn't even sure how o play those. Usiku had never had a sibling. He guessed he could wrestle a bit, solong as it were close to the den. One problem was he was a lot bigger than Fenris.

He rolled his shoulder a bit. Then looked at his tail. He wasn't sure about Fenris, but Usiku had always enjoyed trying to get a good bite into his mothers tail when she was sleepy, if only to see that hilarious reaction she had whenever he caught it.

But nah. He swished his tail quietly. "what do cubs usually do? "

He shrugged off the leopard's bitter response. He knew the negativity wasn't directed towards him, and that put him at ease a bit.

"We could race!" Fenris offered energetically, bouncing up to his feet. "I'm the fastest there's ever been! I'm faster even than momma!" A determined look spread onto his young face at the idea of beating yet another competitor. His tail swished in excitement. "Unless you're scared to lose, that is," he added, hoping it would help egg Usiku on.

She probably took it easy on him. Forget being half cheetah, Fenris still wouldn't be fast at this age. "Very well. One race. To that tree, " He said, motioning to a tree not far off. "And back. " Usiku would undoubtedly run as fast as he could, not because of the competition, but he couldn't risk staying away and Sukari getting all pissy at him.

He rolled to his paws, and crouched, facing the tree and readying his hindquartes, claws kneading the ground just for a moment. "You give the go. " He said, and as soon as that go was given, he'd launch off full speed.

Fenris stretched his legs before levelling himself with Usiku. He mentally prepared himself... I'm a cheetah, better than them all, nimbler than a gazelle and faster than the winds in a storm...

He crouched, claws extended to help with the speed and maneuverablility. A smug look crossed his little face before he uttered the word.

"GO!"

He released the tension he'd been storing in his hind legs, freeing himself to go bounding ahead, eating the ground with his long strides. There was no room in his little head for the possibility of a loss to his perfect record.

The male leopard lauched off, his body close to the ground, shoulders and hindquarters powering his frameforeward quickly and swiftly. He knew that when Fenris grew, a race with him would be pointless, unless it involved sharp curves, as then, he'd be very fast. Perhaps not entirely cheetah fast, but he got the point.

Yet fornow, over taking the cub in speed wasn't that hard; his strides were longer, and his body was stronger, and by keeping his paws closer to the groud, he more skimmed over it than beat down, even if he streched to his full extent on every side.

He glanced to the side as he caught up on the half cheetah, nostrils flaring to get in more ar, as it ws harder to breathe in this situation. He glanced back for a mere moment, slowing slightly, then turningan continuing. He actually slowed to remain just a bit ahead of the cub, urging it to speed up and tire itself more so he wouldn't have to repeat this.

But soon enough, the tree was in reach, and he sped up, then launched his body, slamming against it, then bouncing off. It shook violently under the pressure, and its leaves made a slight crackling sound as they hit eachother.

The landing, of course, was kind of heavy, as it was a lot of pressure on his paws in such a little time range, but he kept on running, feeling the soreness in his paws that he'd attend to later.

Soon enough, he'd reach the den, but from here he could see it very well, so he didn't worry so much. He'd know if anything went on.
