Norman seated himself quietly onto the main seat. The room was too silent. If his eyes were not open, the principal wondered if he'd think no one else was in the room. Of course, with his eyes open, he could see every single administrator present...even the cold Dr. Kenth who refused to meet with him privately before. Norman shivered at the man's presense, and had an urge to speak to him. But this was not the time to do so, for he was in a very important meeting. Even so, Kenth's freezing glares made him gulp. The man reminded him of everything that happened and everything that was happening in China. He knew it was not Kenth's fault, but he couldn't help but to relate doctor Kenth to death...how ironic.

Coughing so slightly, Norman tried to bring some noise into the room. The noise he made, however, somehow made the silence even more awkward. Norman cleared his throat again, hoarsely, and began to speak. His voice sounded unstable, as if there was something caught up in his throat, something of fatal matter. Yet it was somewhat true, for this matter on his hand---no, everyone's hand---could be something worse.

"So." Norman started. "I take that you all have heard the news, and received all the info on the Chinese incident."

A silent nod from a few faculties. Kenth sat back and gave a quiet snort and rolled his eyes.

"The supreme government..." Norman cleared his throat again at Kenth's action, and lowered his glance. "The supreme government have ordered the school to contribute much more than it suppoed to. Unlike last time, I think we must dispatch some faculties there to help fix the problem."

"Hoowwwwwwwww stupid is that?" A crisp voice at the end of the table started. Javelin, with her hair neatly braided and dangling on her side, rose a little and pounded on the table. "Send over soldiers there won't they? Why would we have to be the baby sitter to take care of everyyyythinnnnnnnnnnnnngggg for them?"

"That shows how inferior they are, doesn't it?" Shinji said quietly beside the woman, who casted a raspberry-blowing face at the calm man. Shinji lit a cigarette, and continued. "I have no interest in going over there. Work here is piling up already."

"Psssh. No smoking in this room!" The black haired asian man smiled and reached out to snap the lit end of the cigarette. Shinji evaded the hand, but impatiently sighed and threw cigarette away. Herei then turned to Norman. Even though a slight hint of smile could still be detected on his face, the young advisor's expression was far more serious than when he was normally seen. "but I suppose Kyuu is right about the government...they are just a bunch of cowards ('chickens!' yelled Javelin in the back). It is only the war against aliens that's holding them up on top...for all we know, we are the ones that take control most of the times, not them. They fear us."

"What are we supposed to do then?" Murmured the demure doctor at the opposite end. Lorioth had been sitting quietly for a while now. He had an anxious expression on his face, and one could see him trying to hold back the decision to volunteer himself into the mess.

"Good question. Maybe we should show them who's the boss, yes?" The red hair made a clear contrast with the dark green that seated beside him. Greg nudged on Ardanay as if they were buddies. His expression was cheerful, unlike any others. He casted a playful glance at Dante, who turned his head away. The glance eventually landed on Kenth, who pretended that he was asleep. Greg's cheerful expression softened a little, but continuted to speak. "I volunteer to China to kick some a---"

"Oh! Me too!" The enthusiasitc and kind elven lady spoke up in her gentle yet excited voice, cutting off Greg's word that made Lorioth blush even though it was not being said. "Perhaps I can help too. I can go over there and rise the dead people and ask them about what's really going on..."

"Sounds like a great idea, Irame, except you'd likely kill off all the survivors because of your power." Dante's head remained turned, but his voice could be heard clearly. Irame blushed a little and sat back down, her eyes on her fellow elf, as if she was questioning Dante's statement.

Sighing, Dante slowly rose, and started walking around the table. "Did Dr. Kenth not bring back the report that the Chinese natives are highly religious? Certainly Irame's power would bring conflict with the religion. Personally I do not see a point in dispatching everyone to China. Perhaps it's nothing that we fear. Perhaps it is just a general hatred toward the scientists. In that case all we need to do is to pull out all the researchers from the area."

"But what about the food they bring?" Herei whined jokingly, but immediately turned back on track when Dante finished speaking. "I agree not to let everyone go. It is a hassle to bring so many people there in the first place. The bigger the group, the more obvious it is to the natives."

"What is it that you are suggesting then?" Kenth spoke for the first time in the meeting, and glared up at Herei, who merely smiled.

"Simple, we bring some and leave some. I volunteer to go."

"Of course, you are worried about the place aren't you?" Ardanay asked quietly. Herei looked at the man for a while, and nodded. His smile was a tad more sad than before.

"It is settled then." Kenth stood up, putting both of his palms onto the table. "I will be going with advisor Herei Fang."

"What? But..." Lorioth started, but was immediately cut off by Kenth.

"Advisor Fang is more skilled in the language of Chinese than I am, therefore he will be a good help."

"I think he meant why you, Dr. Kenth." Norman dared to cut in, and was met with a cold glare from Kenth. The glare turned into a somewhat sinister expression, however, and Kenth smiled sacrastically.

"Isn't that what you people were thinking in the first place? Like the last time? Don't worry, I started this mess, I will solve it myself."

And with that, Kenth walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

Norman shook his head. This was harder than he thought...oh dear.

A list of the relevant materials are listed here for reference to the general plot:

General Public announcement to the entire student body

March 2021:

We have just recently received some unfortunate information from China. There seem to be some violent uprisings from the native people. With the causes unknown, we, the administration board, ask that the student body stay focused on their school work and not concern themselves about the incident. We hope to resolve this riot very soon.

Experts from a Chinese student's journal

March 2021:

No matter how much they tell me to calm down, I can't help but stay awake at night, worrying about the people back in my country. What happened to them? They were so gentle before...why are they acting like this now? I heard that they have killed so many of the remaining scientists...they've gone mad.

...The situation here for me and the other students of Chinese heirtage is depressing, I shall say. I can tell how they looked at us...the confused and sometimes scared look that they attempt to hide with their warm and friendly smiles. The students here are nice, but I can tell that they, too, are worried about what is happening...surely the administrators have noticed...I don't know what to do. They are also the victims, in a way...people of their heirtage are being killed by us. Would they see us as murders?

...I am afraid, and certainly concerned. The smart admins should notice the unrest already. This...this better get resolved soon. But even if it does...will it change their views on us forever?

General statistics recorded up to March 30st, 2021

<-misc informations->
Total Death Toll: 623

Breakdown:
Sceintists, foreign (non-asian) heirtage: 430
Causes of Death: 60% killed by natives, 20% suicide, 10% causes unknown

Natives: 193
Causes of Death: 10% Accidental death during the uprisings, 90% causes unknown

Victims of the unknown malady appear to be severely tortured and mutilated. The bodies of the victims are often teared apart or have missing limbs. It appears as if they were "eaten" by some kind of wild beast.

It is noticed that most of the unknown deaths occurred before the uprising.

Announcement from Advisor Herei Fang

April 2021:

The Board of International Relationships has requested us to send some of our members to China in order to help investigate this matter. An emergency faculty meeting will be scheduled on April 13th, 2021. Headmaster Norman will be discussing member dispatchments with the faculty members during that meeting. All are required to attend.

Experts from a surviving scientist in China

April 2021:

...It's getting worse and worse. This place...this place is a nightmare.

It first started with the disease, and now these...these mad people, killing machines...why do they hate us so? Why does God hate us so??

...I want to get out of here, right now. Please, help me...If I don't leave here, I'll die, sooner or later. By them, or by the demons that lurk under the God of Darkness...the horrible death! Do I..do we really deserve this punishment? My family, my children...what about them? Will they be the same too?

Forest obervations

Climate: wet and warm
Growth: Mostly Asian plants, mosses and ferns. Animal life is rare with the exception of insects. Only a few of them are harmful to humans. The forest floor can be muddy at times, slippery as well due to the mosses that grew on the sandstones on the ground.
Lightning: Very dim. At a few spots nothing can be seen due to the darkness.
Abnormalities:
A strange glowing temple in the middle of the forest.
The fact that there is no predators but a balanced biological environment.
Destroyed trees, strange looking footprints (shape of a human foot, but much smaller), an oddly foul smell that gets stronger as one approaches the outer area of the forest.

Precautions:
Remedy to spores must be carried at all times.
    Flashlights

Awakening of the demon race and the destruction of the natives

With the spilling of a demon girl's blood, Luna's power had returned to earth. How were the two demons left in the beginning, how did they return to the forest, and how was the seal broken remained unknown. Perhaps this was really planned out a long time ago by fate, that the girl was bond to die, that the demons were bond to awaken in the eyes of the many observers from Shinkami...

Was it fate that planned all of this? Or was it something else? Were people of Shinkami...as well as the two demon folks, merely actors in a play?

Perhaps it was because of the blood that had spilt onto this land. It was observed that the natives living around the forest were no longer human. they looked just like the demons, with golden eyes and pointy ears...for now, talking to them would be out of option. In the future...perhaps...

Will the demon race befriends with the humans, or will they be seeking to destroy them?

More will be added when new materials are avaliable.

FAQs:

Questions collected from the forms will be posted here.

Q:Will the characters be split into teams to work on the expedition, or is it going to be a free-for-all sort of thing?
A: That is completely up to you. If you want to team up with someone, you can discuss with him/her/them about teaming up. :3

Q:Are all the natives crazy, or is it the same zealots that Alex tangoed with last time?
A:That's what we are supposed to find out. XDD For now, assume that they are all insane.

Q:Will living arrangements still be the same as the Mystery of China event?
A: If you want to live in the dorms that's fine. But since we'll be traveling a lot in the metaplot, I don't think living arrangement would be a problem...most times we'll probably camp in the woods anyways, so bring lots of wilderness survival kit!

Q:In the last event, the lab in the building was off limits due to the disease, is the lab now open?
A:Yes. :3

Q:Is Jonas still there?
A:Nope, he was one of the first to move out of China after the disease was solved...he's now probably working somewhere in the health board.

Q:Has the climate changed at all?
A:The report has not specifically mentioned the weather, so assume it has not changed for now. :3

Q:Do you still have to be aware of the disease and take the 'antidote' upon arrival?
A:Yes, you are required to drink some amount of the remedy every once in a while.

Q:Is the antidote given in needle form?
A:Nope, it's given in drink-able form...although it tastes pretty bad. XP

Q:In the last event, there was an abandoned village found. During the time from the last event to this one, has that village been re-populated? Demolished?
A:It stayed the same. And if there's any changes at all, it has became somewhat a graveyard for all the dead native people. XP

Q:What is happening with the fungus? Are there steps being taken to iradicate the fungus?
A:So far, nothing is done to iradicate the fungus yet. People were afraid that by doing so they'd disturb the biological balance of the area.

Q:Was any abnormal radiation detected on the people?
A:We don't know that yet, so far the scientists are too busy saving their own lives than doing inspections on the natives. A few of them were lucky enough to take the corpses of a few scientists back to the lab, but no radiation was detected on them...they are killed by the most traditional method of getting stabbed/shot/whatever.

Q:What effect does this have on people who have parasites within them?
A:You mean the fungi? If people have not died from the fungi in their body (meaning they have taken the remedy), then they are perfectly healthy as their own body system would most likely get rid of the spores. And no sigh of any abnormal activities are detected from them.

Q:Is anything else missing or abnormal from the bodies other than limbs?
A:heart, flesh, organs...all the good stuff. But not bones..and missing brains are really rare too.

Q:Are the local communities doing anything to help/blockade/etc or are they pretending it doesn't concern them (IE, are we going to have a problem getting in)?
A:None of the big cities in China are doing anything yet. There has been some reports on television in the Chinese media, but very few people watch TVs now adays...I think they are all too busy to take care of their own lives to concern other happenings.

Q:Is the school going as a whole (IE, the students are going with the teachers) or is each person making their way there individually
A:Teachers have special permissions to go. As for students...they'll have to find some ways to pester the teachers to bring them. Unless they have other escorts... ninja
And no it's not a field trip. >.>;

Q:Is the information of the incidents in China well-spread? For example, does everywhere know about it or just certain countries?
A: The information is reported to the international government. As to what countries know about this info...it depends on if the government decides to present this news to other countries aside from SSoS. In other words, assume that your character's country know about the incident. :3

Q:How are the bodies that are being discovered disposed off? Are they simply buried or are they burned as well, to prevent anything (if they think this is contagious) ?
A:The people who were murdered are either buried (if the scientists were lucky enough to get a hold of te body) or left alone to rot. This makes the area have a feel of the graveyard as a whole. As for bodies of unknown deaths...they are all gathered by the natives and burnt. The dead scientists are either buried or kept in a special room waiting for any investigations.

Q:Why was the suicide rate so high? How was it determined that their deaths were from suicide?
A:One could only assume that the suicide rate was the result of an extreme insecurity within the scientists...the kind of hopeless feeling (will get killed one day anyways, might as well end it now). Most of the scientists who died from suicide have left some kind of message, indicating that they are killing themselves. Others are commonly witnessed by other people.

Q:Has anyone considered ties to the aliens/supernatural in official investigations?
A:There are suspisions, but none could be confirmed as of now.

Q:What are the official theories currently floating around?
A:Rumor that's going on in the area is saying that the natives were somewhat possessed by either the aliens or some kind of supernatural being. There are a few, however, believe that the uprising was preplanned to drive all the sicentists out of the place.

Q:Is there any sort of panic about this?
A:There are mild panics in the government of international relationships. They fear that this incident may bring back the old descrimination against minors...which would divide the already collapsing humanity. In SSoS, there is a sense of panic among Asian students, but they are well hidden.

Q:Is there any common factor among those who are effected or have been killed?
A:So far, we only know what's listed in the report...people who die of mysterious deaths are mutilated, almost as if their bodies are chewed up by some kind of wild beast.

If any of you have participated in the previous China event, you should be familiar with the general procedure. Rules are similar, and dedication is required.

General Rules:
-Be active! You should able to move the plot forward without having have to wait on someone else.
-With that said, try not have someone else wait on you, we all hate that.
-Follow TOS and general rules of the shop.
-Follow general RP rules, be literate (at least let us understand what you are talking about), and no God-mod.
-Let the reference materials guide you! Do not go create things out of nowhere. Do not ignore the reference materials...they are there for a reason.
-And of course, read everything on this page.
-Don't sign up if you are not going to be active. We'd rather want to have a small amount of people that are active than a mob of people who would just drop out later on.
-Don't steal Toa's arts. And for that sake my reference arts are too crappy anyways, why would you want to steal them? D:
-For NPCs: some of you are required to move the plotline forward, please be as active as possbile. If you don't, you will automatically get a point on your inacitveness record. >.> Specific instructions on how to move the plot forward will be discussed in the crew's forum or through pms (in case some of you are too lazy to check the guild).

General Procedures:
    -First, read everything.
-If you are interested, follow the procedure and fill out the form in the next post. Post your forms in this thread, and you will be pmed a confirmation pm containing an ID card that allows you to participate in the metaplot.
-When the metaplot starts, post your ID card in your first RP post as well as an introduction of your character. This should be done in a self-RP form.
-During the metaplot, try interating with others as much as possible and pay special attention to updated reference materials. These should influence your RP somewhat, but you should not change the gear of your RP just to respond to the clues. (And no, do not post something like "in response to the first reference material" or something like that in your post...it'll just make your post unnatural.)
-At the end of the RP, there will be a conclusion post that signifies the awakening of a new race. After this post, participants are required to post a conclusion RP, stating their experiences.
-For players, the metaplot will count toward an event. A event journal entry will be required. Active players will be awarded 2 quest credits.
-Although the metaplot is part of the storyline RP, it will not satisfy the storyline RP requirement in the division stage and the sub-division stage as no students are at those stages as of now.
-Active managers will have one point taken off in their inactiveness record. In contrast, those who are required, but not active will have a 1 point penalty on their inactiveness record.
-if you have any questions, please ask!

Tentative Timeline:

Metaplot: May 22- June ??
Conclusion: June ??

How the RP works:
RP will work on day by day basis. This means that plot progressions are assigned each day. The "day" will end when the assigned progression is achieved, and a new "day" will start. All RP within a day must be finished, or else it will be cut short. You cannot continue any unfinishied private RPs in the next "day". "Days" will be separated by the mule with the following format:

DAY X HAS ENDED.
====================================================

NOTE: Managers are required to be on every day at night (around 8-11pm EST) so they can have updates of the progression plan from me. If you have not added Toa to your MSN contact list, do it now: tooaya@hotmail.com

So this was China.

Dante could honestly not say that he was that impressed with the ground view. An aerial view was more impressive--it revealed large expanses of leaves, emerald green foliage that extended beyond and into what seemed to be forever. Dante was enraptured by the rolling hills and green, the place that reminded him so much of home....

Until they touched down.

Sitting in the campsite now, Dante took a sip of the tea Kenth had given him and made a face. Absolutely disgusting...but if it would keep him alive, well, that was a luxury he could deny himself. Of course, his superior Elven blood could have isolated and destroyed the infection...but Kenth would take no chances.

And in regards to China, Kenth's word was law. No, divine mandate. And Dante didn't want to risk scolding from Norman for shirking the rules.

So he simply rested his elbows on his knees, cradling his head in his hands and watching timid people trickle into the campsite.

The examination process was thorough--too much so, almost. It had taken hearly an hour to examine her ID card to make sure it was "viable." Really, if the boot fits....

The girl shook the thought as she took a nervous nibble of the Pocky in her hand and snapped off the end with her teeth, forest green eyes making a sweep of the camp almost casually. Almost. There was that little glint in there that made the girl seem scared of something, jittery...

With a groan she adjusted her sleeveless black tank top, a flimsy but clinging and therefore undeniably useful knit shirt that ended just underneath her chest, revealing a good amount of skin before going down to cargo pants. On her hip rested her gun holster, pieces of the long white hair that framed her face brushing the hard leather; the rest was piled in an unkempt, ungraceful heap on the top of her head.

In the duffel bag she carried was some pocky and a few outfit changes.

Without a doubt, this woman was prepared. At least on the outside.

Dearest Nai, I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. Did you ever get to read my letter...to know that I love you, but I have to think through this? To see if I can still live with you?

Another snap of Pocky, this time accentuating her nervousness.

She came because she finished what she started.

And because she knew there was no one else she could trust this information to. Not yet. Her eyes scanned the crowd for a familiar face....

To be perfectly honest ... Ka had no idea how anyone official had even found them. I mean sure ... radar could have picked up the plane and all, but why take all the trouble to come and hunt them down like this? The pilot Far had contacted (who knows how) specialized in getting people into out of the way places. It cost a rather pretty penny but apparently Far's family was rich and Farlest had access to all the accounts for some reason.

Then there was the little problem that neither one of them spoke Chinese beyond such things as "Nice day, isn't it?" and "Where is the restroom?". It took him a good twenty minutes to convey that yes he had an ID if they would just let go of him long enough for him to get it out.

User Image

Things went a bit smoother from that point on ... though next it would be Far's turn, as they headed for the plane to drag the darker-haired male out of it.

Farlest was slightly more confident about it, however. He knew how to bluster his way through a situation with ease...pretend to have rank that he didn't really posess. His father did it all the time, after all...and suffice to say that Farlest had learned things from his sire without trying.

Seeing them coming, he stepped from the plane with a certain amount of grace, and nodded to the pilot. Yeah...he could get out of there in a few minutes...now that Farlest had set down both he and Ka's small travelling bags on the ground.

Seeing that now would be a good time to act, he pulled his own ID from his back pocket.

User Image

"This what you're looking for?" He inquired, knowing that the jist of what he was asking would come across in tone of voice...and surely at least one of them spoke sparse english. The chinese still prided themselves on their education...as did most asian cultures.

They eyed the card for a moment, before nodding tersely, apparently somewhat disappointed that there wasn't more excitement. Farlest turned his grin to Ka...score one...making it this far. Now they had to get to where the others surely were. That would be interesting indeed.
PostPosted: Tue May 22, 2007 3:19 pm

Ka flashed a quick smile back at the other, as he stuck his own ID back into his pocket. The officials had come in little jeep-like things of some sort ... but Ka knew better than to try asking them for a lift. The plane took off again, going to refuel somewhere else before leaving the country ... and all the officials drove away, leaving them standing ... more or less in the middle of nowhere.

"Uhm. Now what?" he asked, looking around. The only thing they'd really heard about this lab was a sort of general location ... so ... really, it could be any direction from here. And they hadn't seen it from the air either. Juuust great.

Far's eyes lidded, "Mmm...well..." He knew where it was...but he had to concentrate for a moment. He'd looked at maps before now...to guage where they would land in direct proportion to where they needed to be. "That way..." He stated after a long moment, pointing over...forward and to the left. If nothing else, Farlest had a very good sense of direction.

He tilted his head, smiling up at Ka. "I didn't bring us all the way out here just to get us lost." The slender male stated by way of explanation. No indeed...he was prepared...something that he had been taught to be from a very young age. Well there was one thing he could thank dear old daddy for.
PostPosted: Tue May 22, 2007 3:22 pm

Ka blinked slightly at that, then nodded, moving in a bit closer to Farlest ... trusting the other. "Ok ... whatever you say, boss," he said, that smile coming back. He still wasn't entirely sure what they were doing here or how good of an idea it was ... but here they were. He'd sort of assumed Far would contact their pilot again somehow when it was time to leave. Assuming nothing else happened.

After all, apparently, there were all these crazy people around killing whoever they saw in very unpleasant ways. Glancing around nervously now, Ka edged closer still - more for the purpose of protecting his friend than because he was scared for himself. "I guess we better get on with it then," he murmured, trying to sound excited about the prospect of wandering around China all by themselves.

Farlest laughed aloud when the other called him 'boss'. Funny title that. "I'm not your boss...I think...trail guide sounds far more fitting." He teased, grabbing ahold of the other's hand in order to pull him along...that and he just liked the feel...a contact, 'touching' person he'd always been...especially with friends and those he cared about. Ka was most assuredly very firmly in that category.

"This will be an adventure." He stated boldly, snagging his own bag and trotting off in the direction he'd indicated beforehand. Better to get there before it got dark...as that had the potential to get unpleasant out in this neck of the woods.
