Fire seemed to be flying through the nighttime, the only time that it would be seen, sparking up light blue from the ground. If one hadn't really been gazing at it then they would have sworn that the ground was spitting up blue flames in places from discontent. However, the dozens of dancing blue fireflies really would have distracted anything, caught the eye of anyone as fireflies didn't fly that fast or in groups.

What was it? A confusing mare, that's what it was. A wild heart losing itself in the night so that it didn't have to deal witht he day when it had nothing. To make itself feel better when normally it would have cried out and hidden within the darkness. So it ran, so it forced itself to pound it's hooves into the ground and fly over the ground like it's mother flew over the ground.

Maybe, just maybe it was the feeling of being free for the night. Maybe it was the feeling of being alive for a night. Maybe it was just being alive at all.

Stopping just as suddenly as she'd been running, Yasei stood up on her hind legs and whinnied out so loud that the furthest Soquili from her had to have heard her just then. It wasn't sorrow or happiness, it was just... deadpan. For once the bright and hyper female wasn't so... she was just lonely that she wasn't as happy as some others. Every time she saw her mother and father together she wondered how they'd ended up together and if she'd ever find someone just as special.

With how she was and how she was told she was... probably not. Who could ever love a hyperactive female that simply loved to race?

He plodded through the dark, emotions fleeting on his face as his mind whirled round and round in circles, thinking of the many Soquili he had met... who, he had to say, were all females who considered him as a friend. Well, friend or not... he found he wasn't satisfied with any of them. He needed to find some other mare who didn't think that way of him, who felt right to him, and where they both felt right for each other.

He was a flirt, yes, a sadist, yes... but because of who his mother was, he had acquired a kinder side, hidden due to his father's influence, but it was there. He wasn't always, necessarily, an arrogant stallion filled with too much pride and ego... it was merely a front. He was, however, twisted; after all, he was a sadist, but only to a small extent. He was, in his own way, very much like his father.

The spark of something colored blue caught his eyes, and he looked up from his relentless walking and thinking in time to see a meadow filled with thousands of fireflies. It made him awestruck for a little while, and then he heard a loud whinny of a mare. He straightened, and looked up and around. He soon spotted her--she was black and dark like him, so it had been nearly impossible to find her--as she landed back on her forehooves. That whinny spoke volumes to him...

...Because he felt the same way. Grimacing at the pain in that sound, no matter how deadpan it was, he headed towards the mare. Perhaps he would find a mare whom he could love unconditionally... He slowed to a stop, a few yards away as he watched her. She looked... oddly... familiar... where had he seen her before...?

The glowing blue spots on her body seemed to rise and fall quickly as Yasei panted from anger and loneliness and just from how fast she'd been running. She was stressed and she was angry and while she absolutely loved her family she didn't want to go back to her sister who acted like a little puppy or her brother who just didn't really care. And least of all she didn't want to go back and find how lovey dovey her parents were and how much she didn't have.

The sound of hooves not that far off seemed to catch her ear and she turned to gaze straight at the larger stallion that was walking towards her. She knew who he was, she'd met him once or twice before and raced him once when he was just a foal. However staring at him now made her lift one of her pale violet eyebrows in confusion. What was he doing here when normally he'd have been with his family?

Why was he walking towards a mare that seemed as if she'd just run a marathon, especially one that looked so lonely. Unless that was his angle right now, to walk towards her because she looked so lonely and he thought he could make her happy. Males were just... strange.

"Hello?" Her voice was nothing like her mother's, it wasn't ghostly it was strong and her head lifted up, ears swivveling forward as she peered at him. "What do you want?" It wasn't gruff it was just... wary. Living with a pair of wind soquili tended to make one wary of what was going on around them.

He raised a brown eyebrow as he watched her. He remembered her now; he had met her as a foal and had raced her once or twice when they were young, and often times it was fun. He had missed her, not having a chance to ask her name when they were younger. He didn't feel up to being with family tonight, and had gone in search of a place where he could feel secure and think by himself... he was a lot like his dad that way. His parents weren't "lovey-dovey" as many were... he was, in a sense, a b*****d.

Himself and his siblings were all bastards, and, although they knew their mother loved them dearly, it wasn't quite the same as having a real family. Aruna didn't love Rahu like a mother and father would love each other and their children... like his grandparents, Hania and Mahiri, did, and where they had created such a wonderful family. He didn't want to go near such a serene family setting. It made him ache for a family between Rahu and Aruna where his mother and father would once again fall in love, but they were out of love now, and Rahu was a wanderer. Ever since his children had become adults, Rahu had left.

Aruna had not liked that, but she had only sighed in regret and moved on, as well. She was now officially back with her proper mate, and living much healthier and happier. Her emotions had finally toned down, and Shizuka himself could see the glow of beauty that was his mother in her prime. As he approached the mare, making his thoughts disappear, he was surprised to hear such a strong voice. "Hello," he said, watching her, feeling just as wary. "What do I want...? Is there something wrong with asking for company from such a lovely creature?" he answered as sincerely as he could. His guard was back up again, because one never knew what could happen in the night.

His reaction wasn't one that she was used to, she wasn't used to being called lovely or having such a handsom male walk up to her. Least of all a stallion that was once a colt she'd raced through the sunlight in her own childhood. It was strange to be looking straight into her childhood in the form of a stallion that she remembered so.

"I wouldn't know why you would want to ask for company from me then, if you're looking for a lovely creature." Yasei responded in her normal blunt voice. "However if you wanted luck trying to find one then I could help you easily, I've heard they pop up a lot during the day and sleep during the night. Should be easy to find eh?"

Violet eyes burned for a moment and Yasei looked down at her fiery hooves for a long time, wondering why she looked like she did. Why did she have to dissapear into the night like a wraith save for her bright markings and hair. It was a curse but.. it was a blessing, she could dissapear like a ghost, just as her mother did, something both of her siblings weren't capable of. Yet here she was, able to meld in thanks to her mother who could all but dissapear when she wanted to. All that stood out was her white body.

Yasei? All that stood out were fireflies on the night sky.

He almost felt sorry for her--almost. The only reason he didn't pity her was because he knew those feelings that were fleeting across her eyes, in her expression. He tilted his head, watching her carefully. She had, indeed, grown up very lovely, and he wouldn't have minded her company at all. Well, most of the time he didn't mind any mare's company but even then it was all just a game to him.

Tonight, he was done playing the game, and running into a familiar friend had been the least of things to do in his mind, but maybe they could just chat. He hoped, anyway... which was something he did not do all that often. He had to give her credit for such a wicket reply, though. "Why would I want to look for one when I've already found one? I mean, I'm sure they don't know it yet, but maybe if I talked to them a bit more they'd understand," he said, dark brown eyes nearly glowing for a moment.

Due to his odd color of brownish-black Shizuka kept fading in and out of the darkness by the light of the fireflies, something he noticed his mare friend doing as well. "I am Shizuka Tsuyoi... and although I'm sure we've met somewhere, I'm afraid to say I don't remember your name, or I never received it." He liked watching how she, too, faded in and out of the night, save for her mane and tail and her spots. He himself was difficult to find if he wanted to disappear, but maybe...

...Maybe he shouldn't think any further. He wrinkled his nose and then shook his head before focusing once more on the mare.

"I don't know why you'd place me up there along with all those other mares and say that I'm beautiful but if you wish to talk I supose that it wouldn't hurt." Yasei said slowly, her wild nature showing in her sharp tongue as she rocked back and forth a bit on her hooves. She wasn't sure what this male was talking about, wasn't sure why he would call her something that she didn't think she was.

In her personal opinion she was nothing to look at at all, she would just fade in and out of the general sight of another, would simply dissapear if they wanted to talk to her. She wasn't like her pretty sister, she wasn't like her sure as sure brother. No, she was just the useless middle child that had nothing but the ability to run and a hyper attitude that came with running constantly. That was all Yasei had.

Not looks, not personality. Just speed and freedom.

"It was never given to you as I remember, though you can call me Yasei now." The mare responded softly, gazing at him from the side of one of her flashing purple/gray eyes. There was something that could be said for Shizuka, he was persistant with someone that wasn't sure about him. She would definetly give him that. Persistant and... very sure of himself. That was probably a good plus.

He cocked his head, the image of a tall, dark, and handsome stallion smirking sexily down at the mare he actually has a big crush on, but is acting all cool and unaffected. "I don't know why you wouldn't put yourself in the same category as those other mares." He nodded at her least couple of words; indeed, he direly wanted to talk. There was something about her that attracted him, but he wasn't sure what it was. It was just... something.

Mane and tail a beautiful soft brown, glowing silkily in the moonlight, he moved so that it looked as if the moonlight made him shimmer, back and forth. His dark brown eyes, for once, not on guard, but soft with concern. This mare made him want to care... something he really never did. Oh, he cared about his family of course--he wouldn't be allowed to not care--but he was fairly indifferent to every other mare and often just flirted with them and then broke them. He was, after all, a sadist.

"Yasei..." he spoke slowly, carefully, allowing the name to run like smooth silk across his tongue as he nodded to himself. "I don't think I gave you mine... but I am Shizuka Tsuyoi," he introduced, smiling at her. It seemed Yasei wasn't very confident in herself, but maybe he could help her to change that... she was like a firefly, there, and then, not there... so he had to chase a firefly, it looked like.

Smirking at his words spoken first, she thought for a moment to put them from her mind, though thought better of it a moment later. Taking a step towards him and gazing upwards to peer into his eyes calmly, though there were hardly a height issue there at all. Sparking eyes gazed into his caramel colored ones closely, taking stock of the things that she saw there before answering him.

"Other mares don't dissapear in the night save for the spots on their bodies and their mane and tail. I doubt that you'd be looking at me when you could gaze at a mare that would be glowing in the moonlight before you would you?" Yasei asked him softly, her voice becoming quiet at the end as if she were to trail off.

Looking into his eyes she could see how sure he was, just like her little brother. Then looking at the rest of him she felt herself want to shie away, amazed at how incredibly good looking he was. It was like... while part of him stood out in the night, the other part just dissapeared and flickered. It wasn't hard to understand why she was suddenly crushing on him, but she didn't think that anything would come of it.

Surely a stallion as stunning as him would go for a female equally as stunning, not a little mare that liked to race the wind and smile hyperly and dissapear before everyone's eyes even if she didn't mean to. No, he'd want a mare that was as fiery as him, that would stand out at his side so that he could show her off like she deserved, Yasei knew she could never be that.

"You have a nice name... Shizuka."Yasei spoke at last, breaking her thoughts and her eye contact with him, turning her head gently to hide the subtle blush that was want to slide across her cheeks.

((Lol, I just realized I had Shizuka introduce himself twice. x3;; Oops.))

He stood his ground as she stepped toward him, their eyes connecting for what seemed like ages but was probably mere moments as Yasei searched his eyes for... something. He didn't know what it was, exactly, but it was certainly something important to the dark-fur coated mare. He schooled his face, however, still wary of this mare despite knowing her from his foalhood.

"Other mares aren't quite as unique as you," he countered, slowly enjoying himself. There was no other mare he'd met who hadn't challenged him like this. It was entertaining, though Shizuka did not realize he was falling for Yasei... otherwise, he'd probably have already lead her around in circles around him, for him, about him. He always was such an arrogant p***k; fiery, intelligent. Astute. He was very observant despite his actions.

Now, Yasei was observing him, scanning him... Shizuka nearly wanted to bask in the glory of having a mare check him out, but then again, maybe not. "I don't know what makes you think you're not beautiful, Yasei... but whatever it is, stop it," he told her with blunt force. "You are beautiful, and I envy your freedom." He had watched her once, he remembered, in his youth, the way she was always running with the wind. The way Yasei had this... freedom... about her, with nothing to tie her down, nothing to... worry about. Nothing to really wonder much about... just being free.

"My name is nothing compared to yours," he replied, pawing the ground. Then, she broke eye contact with him, and he wondered what he had done to make her suddenly shy away from him. "Yasei..." he breathed, and walked closer towards her. He didn't know what he was doing; didn't understand what he was feeling. His was a heart of cold stone, encased by ice... not that he had noticed it was melting, and the stone beginning to crack. He did not acknowledge any of this; his only attention was to comfort Yasei... but as he approached her, he paused. What was he doing? He did not comfort; nor did he offer it willingly. He found himself nuzzling Yasei while murmuring meaningless, comforting words.

His was a heart of cold stone, encased by ice... the ice cage was slowly melting away, the stone that was his heart gently cracking... Shizuka Tsuyoi was softening for a single mare, one mere mare that... felt absolutely right. He still did nothing to acknowledge this, however... he just moved along with whatever came to him.

"I've seen my sister and how simple she is, and my mother and how gorgeously simple she is as well. Both of them are so pretty yet at the same time so simplistic that they stand out to the eye. I know I'm nothing like them, and I'm nothing like my brother either, with his sureness and essence." Yasei said softly, shivers sliding over her withers at his nuzzling and words. It wasn't that she didnt' like them, it was the simple fact that she was hardly used to them.

Both of her parents had doted on the other two, the only one with wings and the only son. It was understandable, so it left Yasei with tons of time to herself where she didn't have to worry about being watched too greatly, but free? No... there was no freedom in her life. The mere thought of it made a sigh escape from her dark muzzle before she had the chance to staunch it with a grunt or some other bodily noise.

"Free... that's just a word to me. No matter how far I run I'll never be free. My name is just a farce I believe. For how can anything be wild when it's kept on the short leash of un-love?" Yasei asked, her voice flickering with sadness just like her body flickered in the light.

Something inside of her wanted to swell up and burst, but just like she always did before her family, Yasei hid it and closed her eyes to keep them from welling up. Here she was in the presence of a childhood aquaintence and she felt like she was being the most pathetic creature he'd ever seen, but all the same she couldn't help but turning her muzzle and burying it against his neck softly.

Shizuka felt so strong and there and... there. He was actually there. Never in her life had anyone just been there when she'd wanted to cry, they'd always rolled their eyes and told her to "buck up" or "Smile, it's not that bad" but they'd never just let her stand there and been there for her. They'd never stayed like he was right now.

Yasei was so caught up in attempting to keep herself from shattering and burying completely into him that the only thing she could utter out was "Thank you." for all his kind words and how he attempted to make her feel better.

But why was he still there?

He mused a while upon her words, thoughts swirling as he listened to how Yasei described her family. It occurred to him he had met Yasei's sister once, if briefly. "I met your sister once; she was pretty. Simplistic to the point of idiocy. Annoying. She was amusing for so long, really," he commented, and then glared violently at Yasei.

"Stop. Quit comparing yourself! You're beautiful the way you are... you're... perfect." He mentally froze. Where... how... why were these comforting words spilling from his mouth? Shizuka nearly snarled at himself. This wasn't him; why wasn't he making fun of her? Why!?

A word to her? That felt like a slap to his face... Shizuka uttered a pained grunt, but said nothing more. "Yasei," he emphasized her name--he loved how it felt on his tongue, but he would never admit it--"Your name is not a farce. Stop it. Stop this... depression of yours. It's annoying," he added, eyes narrowed.

Bluntness was something he didn't usually do, but for this mare, this... creature who... enraptured him, he felt he needed to do something for her. "Un-love?" he repeated, eyes softening carefully. He flicked an ear, flicked his tail... what was going on? He almost stiffened--almost--when Yasei suddenly came in contact with him, burying herself against him. He basked in the attention. He stood strong; he didn't move.

He heard a "thank you"... and then he sighed heavily. "You don't have to thank me, Yasei," Again, her name, "I should thank you," he whispered against her.

While it occured to her that she should take offense to him calling her older sister an idiot, Yasei didn't think all that hard on it. She loved Kailash but sometimes she could be very... simple. Not the pathetic kind... always. But simple all the same.

Just like her mother and father and brother, Yasei loved all her family, all of them. But it hurt her to be so forgotten that they never even really smiled at her or played games with her. Sure her mother would occasionally ask her where she'd been and if she'd had fun ad her father would ask if she'd met any males he'd have to bully about... but that was it. She'd never gotten the weloming that Kailash and Korofi got. Never...

"I'm sorry... I guess I've always been rather annoying." Yasei whispered softly, though in her head her thoughts were swirling around in her head in a manner that she wasn't used to at all. Someone was here for her, someone that was keeping her from beating up on herself, how was she supposed to react to that?

Not this way, get ahold of yourself girl, you're being a weepy, pathetic female and not yourself.

Berrating herself mentally for becoming a weakling for a bit, Yasei pulled her head back from his neck and gazed into those entrancing eyes once more. Why was it that she could get lost into the eyes of a male when in reality she should be the one letting him get lost in hers? There was just so much soul in there that she couldn't resist.

"Shizuka, you don't need to thank me for anything. I haven't done anything for you." It was true, Yasei was fairly useless when it came to helping others, she only knew how to help herself. "I appologize for my behavior... it's just hard sometimes to rememer things like that and not be affected, especially when there's someone standing there like such a welcoming wall of comfort. You're the first that's ever been that way..."

Her voice trailed off, sounding faintly like wet silk being pulled over marble. Soft and almost like a delicate hiss on the wind, teasing his ears forward to listen to every word she said. Her wild eyes sparked as she looked past her mane at him, a gentle smile on her muzzle.

He had hardly a caring thought for anyone other than himself, though he did not realize Yasei would soon become the only other one outside his family he would care deeply for. He, like his mother, was as simple as he was complex, but moreso complex... than simple.

Shizuka always felt the responsibility of being the eldest on his shoulders, so in his own way he had tossed his "duty"... and ran. Like his father Rahu, who did not so much as do responsibility... but, like Rahu, Shizuka was a wanderer. He held nothing trivial like emotions, following his father's footsteps.

His mother was the only one who actually knew his father inside and out, but that was probably because the two had known each other for so long. They had spent much time with each other, but he still couldn't understand what had happened between them to cause such a rift. His father knew Aruna inside and out, too.

"Annoying?" he repeated, backing off slightly to stare down at her--not that she was much smaller, but he certainly felt like a giant to her--as he contemplated her words. "Jeez, Yasei. Forget your damn family. I'm here, aren't I? It's only me--us--and what, your family isn't around!

"Mine isn't either, but hell, they don't care about me. Or well, they do, probably, but not enough to worry or... well, care. A mare like you, who loves the wind... I mean, come on." He snorted, shaking his head in disappointment.

"I came here, found you... don't you get it yet?" Wait, what am I doing? For some reason, he felt compelled to tell her that she should only care that he, Shizuka, was around, and that he was always waiting for her. He was... there. No one else, and he would be damned if he allowed a different stallion to close in on his girl.

Hold on a moment... his girl? After pondering a moment, he found he liked the idea. A lot, in fact. More than a lot. Yasei. Yasei. He could chant her name over and over and not get tired of it, or get annoyed. He looked at her again. She was perfect. Beautiful... wonderful.

Then it dawned on him why he hadn't played his game. She's the one, isn't she? His inner self mused. His eyes glowed violently as he glared Yasei down. "Like I said, forget your stupid family. I'm here, Yasei. I admit, I didn't expect to find anyone while I was out and about alone at night, but I'm glad I did... I'm glad it was you."

He chuckled sourly, and then shook his head again. "Of course I have to thank you, Yasei." He loved her name... "You've done plenty. Helped me to acknowledge something I always ignored. My emotions... my feelings." He stepped back towards her, putting his nose to her nose as he stared into her lovely, sparkling gaze.

"I'm glad I'm the first. I always will be... I'm the best like that, you know?" he smiled softly. A true smile... a smile only his girl alone would see. Not even his family had ever seen this smile. It was a gift only for Yasei. He paid attention only to her, like he had never shown interest in any other before. "Yasei..." he breathed her name.

The words, every word that he said, every syllable and every shocking revelation... all of them swirrled around Yasei as her eyes got wider and wider, hardly believing what was flitting into her ears. Her fiery eyes peered him square in the eyes, making sure to take him in, everything about him down until she could hardly peer anymore.

Every time he spoke her name, when he emphasized it, when he breathed it, it was intoxicating to hear and see. To feel it seem to brush across her cheeks and throat and make her want to force him to say it more. To beg him to say it more in that sexy voice and way of his.

Peering up at him she felt her heart start to slam against her ribcage harder and harder and harder. This was what it felt like? Her mother had told her that when she'd fallen in love with her father it had been like falling for a long time and suddenly landing in a fluffy cloud. This.. this felt different.

She knew she was falling in love with this amazing stallion, but it felt like an entire waterfall had suddenly slammed into her and knocked her off her feet, causing her to kick her hooves to try and get to the surface but not being able to. There was no surface, this was the surface. This feeling was the surface that she wanted to leap to, the breath of fresh air she wanted so badly.

"Okay.... but I'll only do that if you promise to stay this way. But not only to stay this way... but to stay this way with me." Yasei whispered, her haunting voice coming out and drifting to him from her soft muzzle as she was too shy to voice it entirely alloud. What if he didn't want to? What if all he wanted was this night and then when she blinked with the sunlight... he was gone?

But that smile... oh that smile made her want to curl her head under his chin and feel safe and cared about. How did he know how to smile like that? Where did a flirt learn to smile in a way that would make the heart of a female lurch in her chest and color her cheeks in a way she didn't want.

Well, Yasei couldn't say that she didn't want it, she actually did want it. Wanted it very much and wanted to smile in return so that he would know that she was starting to fall... that she was starting to be swept up in him and everything that was him.

"Shizuka.... I've never been very good with my emotions when it came to caring or anything of the sort... never was sure how to show it so that I wouldn't get stared at or yelled at or questioned, but.... could I..." She trailed off of her run-on sentence and tried to regain her composure a little bit though as the blush that he'd forced across her cheeks kicked in she realized that she probably never was going to get it back so she'd just have to...

"Maybe we can help one another? Because... because I don't want to trot home tonight and never meet you again. I couldn't stand that, couldn't stand to leave and not hear your voice again Shizuka." Yasei said lightly and shyly all of a sudden. So shy that she could hardly bring herself to even say it. "Please... Don't make me lose you to the night like everything else."

With those words said she leaned her head against his shoulder and pressed softly against him, as if reminding herself that he was still there and hadn't gone anywhere. That he would still be there when she opened her fiery eyes once more and wouldn't dissapeare into the night like the wraith her heart was making him out to be right now. Like everything in her being screamed that might happen and her heart might break.

Please no... please don't go. She cried inside.
