The shining piece of black rock vanished as sand was poured into the hollow it occupied. Lucius squinted down at it and made a small noise to himself. Not good enough yet, not well enough hidden. More sand was called for then. Turning about, the curly-maned stallion lowered his head to the sand and scooped up a good heap of the grains in the large flat seashell he gripped between his front teeth.
Raising his head once more, the Aeri turned back to the hidden crevice and poured is burden of grains in on top of the previous load. The piece of obsidian was well hidden now; nobody would think to poke about in such a place and so his little treasure ought to stay safe until such a time as he could turn it over to Vox.
Vox.
Yes, he had to find him; had to go to the fruitlands and look for the green Aeri. Now why was he so sure that it was the fruitlands he needed to go to? Yes it was a fairly logical idea but... but he didn't find himself considering other possibilities as he usually did.
The frighteningly adorned male sighed and dropped the shell to the sand before turning away and moving out of the little cave he had found the hollow in. He was quite used to being sure of things but this... this felt different.
Lost in thought, the tall creature set off towards the sea that lapped at the beach not too far away. So distracted by his ponderings was he that, were there another creature out on the shore that afternoon, he would not have noticed them unless they hailed him or walked directly through his field of view.

Clover fluttered her wings a little in the ocean air. The breeze was refreshing and the spray of foam hitting upon the rocks near her cooled her down. She allowed her hooves to sink into the soft, light, sand. Shells littered the shore and crunched in protest when she stepped upon one. Sand crabs quickly burried themselves out of sight and gulls flew overhead, occasionally diving into the water for an afternoon meal.
She loved the beach and always had. The ocean was filled with many amazing creatures and the water was to be respected. Indeed it was the water in the ocean itself that amazed her. One day it could be calm, as it was such today, and then the next a roaring thing of furry tossing about in a mad storm. It was constantly changing and never once the same.
Continueing to flutter her wings she pranced about upon the beach in joy. She was alone to do as she wished and no one was around to stop her. Or she had thought. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed movement coming from a cave. She immediately stopped moving and turned her attention onto the blurred shape. It was large and as she moved closer she made out the shape of an Aeri. Quietly Clover made her way down the beach over to the spot where the Aeri stood.
He was rather frightening jlooking yet in the light of the sun, standing on the beach while the wind played with his mane and tail she was not worried. He was too preoccupied with other things to even notice another creature. What had he been doing in the cave? And why was he so distracted.
Clover slwoly moved toward him not wanting to attract any attention to herself. She noticed that he was starting to move towards the sea. Carefully she noticed his general direction and headed him off. The sand and shells once more crunched in protest as she stepped upon them but she paid no notice. In only a few moments she stood in front of the Aeri stallion. She was quiet, merely just standing there, wondering how long it would take him to notice her.

Perhaps he just wanted an excuse to go and visit his own tree again; that was possible. Lucius frowned down at a small crab as it buried itself in the sand. It still felt odd though, to be so sure of this. He hadn't wanted to visit the fruitlands in years so far as he could recall. So why now? What had changed all of a sudden to call him there?
The stallion snorted at himself and raised his head again.
The landscape contained one more mare than when he'd last looked and the Aeri started slightly in surprise. "Good afternoon," he said after a moment, giving himself a shake and pricking his ears foreward. "I didn't see you there; miles away. Have you been standing there very long?" He really ought to be more alert; the Bae didn't look like a threat but she might have been.
"My name is Lucius," the bone-clad Nequus went on, his eyes catching for a moment on the pendant that the smaller creature wore. A four-leaf clover, a shamrock; believed by some to bring good luck and an attractive adornment in any case. "Are you new to the coast or have I just missed you in the past?" Well this was an area he hadn't really explored before. It was quite possible that the rich green mare lived here.

She stood a moment allowing ocean water climb and play over her hooves, then the waves left with the tide and sand crawled over her to take the water's place. The sun was high in the sky and its rays warmed her back and glinted off of her pendant while the wind tossed her mane and tail about. She shook her head clearing the hair from her eyes.
Clover eyed the stallion cautiously. She was still a little unceartain of him. He did look frightening, especially being only a few feet from her. His had seemed distracted and definately a little startled when he saw her so really he did not seem as if she would hurt her.
Gently she took a step back causing the sand gathered around her hooves to slide back to earth. She knew that the part of her that she hated was starting to show. Forcing herself to stand up straighter she regained the step she had lost. She would not run away now. It would be rude, she had come up to him and he had asked her a question.
Her hair began to settle and frame her face as the wind died down a little. The sand crawled back up onto her hooves once again. "I do not come to the beach often," she hesitated for a moment, then continued. "I do love it though and I do not live here though I rather wish I did. My name is Clover and I only just saw you come out of the cave." She paused and nodded to the opening of wence he had come. "Pardon my asking, but what were you doing in there?" She really hoped she wasn't being too bold.

The orange-eyed stallion managed not to smirk. The Bae was nervous of him, which was satisfying, and wasn't running away, which was even more satisfying. He did like it when folk faced fear rather than bolting from it; he'd never had any use for cowards.
Lucius watched the sun wink off the green mare's pendant for a moment, considering how to respond. It was unlikely she'd try to steal the little piece of stone and if she did he could always hunt her down, beat the hell out of her and get it back. "I was just storing something away out of the sea's reach," he informed the smaller Nequus. "A gift for my son, when I see him next. I was hoping to find him here but... It seems that I have other places to be right now. Finding him will have to wait a while I suppose." Until he’d figured out what the hell was drawing him to… the fruitlands. Oh. Humm…
The tall Aeri bent to rub at an itch on one foreleg before raising his head and looking about again, pushing the possibility that had just occurred to him for the time being. "Yes, it is a nice place here isn't it? A nice place to settle." The bone-clad stallion turned his gaze back to the green Bae thoughtfully. "I don't think anybody has really claimed this bit of the coast," he said after a moment. "If you fancied you could probably make it yours without anyone minding. There's shelter there in the cave, grazing and fresh water just up on the cliffs and you get some really good hot air currents too which is always helpful for flying." Especially when you weighed as much as he did.

Clover looked upon the strange stallion with interest. She could sense that he was still somewhat preoccupied. She wondered for a moment if perhaps she should leave. Then again, if the stallion was in that much of a hurry he could just say so. Besides, she didn’t want it to look as if it was an excuse for her to leave.
A small fly buzzed about her head and then turned to land upon her rump. Flicking her ears back she bit at the annoying pest until it was gone. She was still aware of the stallion standing before her. Though she may still be weary the affect that he had first had on her was beginning to wear off.
Slowly she turned her muzzle toward the ocean and noticed that the tide had receded to rest a few feet away from her. Oh how she wanted to play with the water. Feel the ocean spray upon her back and she galloped back and forth. Sighing she turned her head away. Now was not the time to be daydreaming, it would be rude to the stallion standing before her. “Yes the beach is very lovely.” She spoke barely in a whisper. “And it would definitely be a nice place to live, but not alone, and alas I am alone.”

Lucius watched the mare's eyes as they swung to the water and back. It seemed that the ocean was quite a popular place but that was hardly surprising. Wasn't another slight like it in the world and the smell was wonderfully refreshing; no wonder so many were fond of it.
The tall Aeri shifted his stance slightly, pawing gently at the grains under his hooves as he considered the mare's words. Alone. That was no fun in his opinion. "A shame," he said aloud with a bob of his head. "Still, you tend to get more folk coming to visit the ocean in the warmer months. Maybe you'll find somebody to share the sights with if you hang around, somebody who likes the area as much as you do."
Ought he to mention Morpheus to her? Perhaps. While the stallion didn't live by the sea she might be content with the company the Bae stallion could provide. Would they get on though? Hard to say; he wasn't the best in the world at reading and matching people up with one another. Well, for now he wouldn't bring the bright coloured Nequus up; he could always mention him later in the conversation if he felt like it.

The green Bae looked once more to the playful water lapping at the edges of the sandy beach. The sun was a little lower in the sky now and was on its journey home. The moon would be out in a few hours. Oh how she loved the moon. The moon and the water, her two favorite things, especially when they were together.
She looked back at the stallion and wondered why he troubled with her. She could see the wind playing with his mane, blowing it about in front of his face and then back again, that beautiful face with those beautiful eyes. She shook her head. Just because he had beautiful features didn’t mean she could sit here thinking about them.
Gulls shrieked in the distance and crabs scuttled across the beach. It was an area full of life, one that most took for granted. She couldn’t imagine life without these beautiful shores.
Lucius was right; when the warmer months came about there would be more Nequus here. She wasn’t sure how she felt about that. She liked being alone sometimes when it was just her and the ocean. “Yes, perhaps I will find someone to share the ocean with.” And maybe she wouldn’t. Why would anyone care about this small green Bae?
“I’m not keeping you am I?” She wasn’t sure if Lucius was in a hurry or not but rather than keep him if he was busy she thought it best to ask.

As the green mare spoke, Lucius frowned behind his bone mask. Was she keeping him? Well he had t go, yes but not just yet. Wasn't time to meet Lydia and he wasn't about to run off without the red-splashed Bae no matter what strangeness urged him on. He was far too logical a creature to gallop off so recklessly after shadows and fancies. So, she wasn't keeping him then; the conversation could carry on for at least a while. Provided he could think of something to say in any case.
"No, no you're not keeping me," the orange-eyed Aeri said eventually, smiling slightly at the smaller creature before him. "I'll have to go fairly soon but... but not just yet. I'm bound for Shrilal looking for my son... You haven't seen him, have you? He's green with pale flecks, yellow mane and tail?" This would probably be another disappointment but there was no harm in asking. "His name's Vox," the bone-clad Nequus added after a moment's thought.

Clover thought a moment. No, she had not seen his son. He was the first Nequus she had seen in a while and she had never even heard of his son. Nox was it?
She looked up as gulls cryed out to one another. The beach was rather solitary and she kept to herself for the most part. She wasn't even sure why she had come up to him. Boredom perhaps? Or was it his interesting appearance? Or even the fact that he had mysteriously come out of the cave? Whatever reason it was it didn't matter. She was here now and they were keeping each other company, at least for the moment.
"No, I am sorry but I have not seen your son. I haven't met very many Nequus, I believe that you are one of the first. Most of my life I have kept mostly to myself." She wasn't exactly sure what she should say. She didn't want to ramble, but she also didn't want them to sit in akward silence. "What is your son like?" She was rather curious.

Lucius smiled slightly and turned his gaze out over the sea that Vox so loved. "I haven't seen him in a while," the stallion began. "Not since he was a colt in fact and he'll be full grown or near it by now. He's... different. He believes in helping others, in honour and kindness and loyalty and the love of the moon for her people. He seems able to accept everyone as they are and does not back down from things he fears."
For a moment the orange-eyed Aeri considered using his first meeting with the green as an example; many a foal would have fled the moment they laid eyes on one such as he. The boned Nequus thought better of it however as he realised that this would reveal the lack of blood between himself and his son. Not that it mattered to him at all but he knew there were many who set great store by sires and dams and blood ties. No, Clover didn't need to know; in all likelihood she wouldn't care either but there was the chance that she would and if she did, he would be forced to kick her. Not something he felt like doing right now.
Lucius turned back to the green Bae and tossed a few rogue strands of curly red mane out of his eyes only to have them blow back again. Damn stuff. "Still, thank you in any case. I am sure I shall find him in the end; I have no concern for his safety. He can look after himself. He visits his tree quite often so I suspect I shall meet him if I remain in Shrilal long enough." Yes, the fruitlands; he had to go there. Soon, he assured his subconscious longing, very soon. With luck Lydia wouldn't have any episodes while they travelled; that would slow them down and that would be bad for reasons he couldn't put a name to.

Clover stood in silence for a few moments as the wind played through her mane and tail once more. Lucius' son had interested her. She wondered what else he liked. Gently she shook her head. She ought not be thinking about this Nequus' son while he stood in front of her. And yet, there was something in the way he had talked of him, she could tell by the tone of his voice that he was at least a little proud of his son. He also sounded a lot like her, though she had never met him and couldn't be certain.
The wind died down a little and barely stirred her mane. The gulls stopped their calling and the ocean quieted. The beach was silent for a few moments. It was odd but quiet peaceful. Then the waves crashed against the shore and the gulls screached their calls once more.
She turned back to Lucius. She had such a problem with becoming distracted. Was it just because she wasn't used to others? Or did she just have a short attention span? She doubted the latter. She had allways been one who could concentrate on things for days upon days if she needed to. However, that didn't mean she wasn't impatient. Just stubborn. It was also possible that she was just nervous around others. It would make sense, seeing as how she was usually a loner.
"Where is your son now?" She asked quietly. She wanted to continue their conversation and the Aeri seemed quite fond of his son. "I'd love to meet him, yet I'm so shy." Why was she telling him this. She sighed. Sometimes she wished she didn't open her mouth. She tended to let things slip every now and then.

Lucius flicked one ear in an equine shrug. "Damned if I know, that's why I asked you if you'd seen him. Last I knew he was living around the coast but he might well have moved." The orange-eyed stallion looked Clover down and further down, pondering her words silently for a few moments.
"I think you'd get on with him if you did meet," the Aeri decided with a bob of his head. "Vox can be shy with strangers too, especially in large groups. Still, yes, if I do find him in Shrilal I'll tell him you were interested in meeting him. I think he will be pleasantly surprised." She did seem like a sweet girl, one who would probably make a good friend for his boy.
Lucius turned his featureless eyes to the sinking sun; night would be coming fairly soon and with that it would be time to meet with Lydia. Then they would go to the fruitlands. Yes. To the fruitlands with all haste to find Vox and... And whatever else was calling to him.
"I've spotted a few other Nequus who seem to live around here if you're looking for company," the tall equine stated, turning back to the green Bae as he managed to drag his mind back on topic. "Didn't stop to talk to any of them but there's an Ichsa who seems to live quite close to this patch of coast, just a little way east. Blue stallion, silver mark on one shoulder if you feel like looking him up."
Gods alone knew if the horned creature he had espied as he flew over the beach would welcome the butterfly-winged mare's company or not but if he didn't it was of little consequence to Lucius. So far as he could tell, you'd have to be a right disagreeable bugger to object to the amiable Bae's presence.

Clover noted how the stallion looked at the sun wich was now sinking into the ocean. The ocean seemed to welcome it gladly as the moon rose to begin its never ending journy to meet with the sun.
The air was becoming cooler now and a slight breeze stired the sand around her. The gulls seemed to be quieting down more and the ocean callmed itself as the tide began to reach for her and then slide back out again.
She remembered Aeri's words and would keep them in mind. There were others here and maybe she would soon meet them too. She had only caught glimpses of them for now but maybe one day she would wander off and look for them. She nodded her head in response. "I would definately enjoy meeting them. Though I'm not sure how they would feel about me."

Lucius flicked one ear in an equine shrug; self-confidence had never been a problem for him and sometimes he found it hard to understand folk who were less fortunate in that respect. "I'm sure they will not have anything pressing against you," the tall Aeri said. "Most people will just let you be if they don't want to talk to you. There are few Nequus who enjoy cruelty for its own sake and fewer still who are willing to risk injury by starting unnecessary fights."
Or perhaps that was just his personal experience of the world because he was big and intimidating, thus cutting the number of people willing to trifle with him. Well, no point saying that out loud and worrying the green Bae. He had discovered over the years that, in general, when he had second thoughts like that it was better to keep them to himself. They tended to upset people and he did dislike dealing with upset people.
((^^ That's fine, the ocean is in the south of the Nequus world I believe but it takes up quite a bit of the south so the sun might still go down over the sea if you're in the right place. Also, no worries about length, 'tis fine ^^))
