MJEDAN Her voice had come with the first beams of moonlight upon Mjedan's scarred back, tinted with a sweetness that spoke of chocolate and coconuts. A voice that tugged at the Jivvin's mind, playfulness masking strength that Mjedan knew, and couldn't ignore.
Soyala. Council Member, and unquestionably the strongest Daewl in the wild forest.
Her whispered words had been a secretly welcome caress in Mjedan's mind, one who had been without conversation for far too long, as they came in the form of an invitation, an infrequent between the two. Soyala knew of all within her forest, and at first this had disturbed the loner, but now it fostered a warmth in her, a connection. She needed to be known.
And so here she was, lean body stretched across a rug of pale lavender, blind eye closed, green half-closed, disinterestingly observing the occasional flickers of the building. She was surprisingly used to it by now, having been permitted to visit a few times over the course of her life. Soyala wasn't a fan of most company, Mjedan knew, and felt adequately honored.
They'd been here for over two hours now, and to the unenlightened, it was either a very peaceful companionship, or, an incredibly boring one. The pale council member staring at a large book, hand occasionally lifting a blue-wrapped candy bar to her mouth, and Mjedan not stirring at all, aside from her initial greeting.
However, if one had looked more closely, they'd have seen the identical smiles on their faces. If you could call the slight lifting of one corner of their mouths smiles, that is.
'Always a pleasure to speak with you, Mjedan. I trust you had no trouble finding your way?'
The quiet, honeyed voice echoed in her mind, and the younger Jivvin's eye shut, an harsh sort of chuckle rumbling in throat briefly, before she thought her own reply, confident that Soyala would hear her.
'Of course, Soyala, although I must admit, I must have forgotten a turn or two from my last visit.'
Both females knew that the elder Daewl had changed the paths in the forest, a favorite pasttime of hers, and a game she often played when inviting Mjedan to talk. However, unlike the last time she was here, they had a true agenda to discuss.
'This desire you have... It has been hidden a while, has it not?'
Indeed it had been, but now it was out there, in a whimsy she'd shouted to the trees, forgetting that doing so was the same as whispering in Soyala's pale ear.
'I need more than myself, can you understand that?'
Musical peals of laughter, before the noise suddenly cut off, and a candybar flew through the air, thunking Mjedan in the ribs. The Jivvin did not stir, as the almond joy slid to the ground, although her eyes opened, shifting to regard Soyala. A moodswing.
There was silence in the room for twenty long moments, then the younger Daewl stretched, getting to her feet, and padded over to the council member, who was staring off into nothing, gaze distant.
'I belong in the village now. Something I never thought would be.'
A pale finger extended, and Soyala's shifting eyes became clear, snapping over to meet the other Jivvin's as she touched her broken horn.
'... Yes. Yes, Mjedan. Return, and be welcomed. I will alert the council.'
The younger Jivvin had never thought Soyala was becoming insane, and her own, unique loyalty to the older female was fierce. Still, for a few moments longer, Mjedan lowered her head, touching it lightly to Soyala's foot in acknowledgment and thanks, and turned, padding out the already open door, thoughts echoing back in farewell.
'May you forever remain sharp, Soyala.'
By the time the sun had risen, she'd reached the uncertain sanctuary of the village.----------
