Das_Naughty! what was the hardest show you have ever teched and why? No question. When I worked at the Barn Theatre (Augusta, Michigan) this last summer, my crew and I had to build Beauty & the Beast. Yes, I'm talking about Disney's version. But, the set itself was Beauty & the Beast. Though the final result looked absolutely fabulous, putting it together was hell. We had 9 different pieces on wheels that also rotated to two scenes each. fireplace/dungeon 3 columns/trees in forest 3 platforms for Beast's castle/town town fountain/Beast's fountain castle gate/library I have pictures of them all, and I'll try to put them up. But, the biggest pain were the three platforms. They were built out of steel, yes STEEL, and also had walls on the back that were connected to the platforms, also made out of steel.

I mainy do set construction myself. we get to build an actual pool of water in the pit for our next show. I'm excited!

Here are some of the pics from Beast. In the top picture is the fireplace, painted to look like marble. In the picture underneath it to the left is a size model for the columns/trees. The guy in the picture is 5'5". Pretty tall, huh? Next to it is the castle gate/library. That's my baby. The platform, columns, and arch were all made out of 3/4 plywood, though it actually looks like stone. Ah, the uses of a grinder. All in all, it ended up having two doors, though only one opened, and stood about 10 feet tall. Not easy to put together, but it looked great.

The hardest set I've ever worked on would have to be Mr. Roberts.
We built a NAVY SHIP out of plywood and 2x4's. There were partition-style suspention doors, an upper level for the captain's quarters, a huge mast, real rigging, boards with chains lag bolted to the set that had to safely support an average teenage boy's weight, not to mention the paint job it took to get the water effects to look right. And the goat.
Two goats, actually. You know goats acutally can get goat depression if they're not around another goat constantly? I didn't.

WickedElphie Like I said in the other post... techie of all sorts + actor. But really, on the techie side I like lighting best. ^.^! I like lighting best too, but I'm not allowed to do the lights because I'm a girl. The lights manager is a senior guy, and he will only train his select group of male junior and sophomore minions. I learned how to work the lights in theatre class with an awesome teacher. Hopefully I'll get to do it again when the lights manager graduates.

You forgot Props crying Im mainly props...but i build sets too and im intrested in learning lights even though it scares me. Sound however i dont wanna touch with a 30 foot pole people ahve tried to show me how but i just...its so complicated sweatdrop
I dont think any shows really hard its just a matter of memorizeing the motions and knowing what your sposed to do and where your sposed to be.

sound is not hard at all. i started doing it at the begining of the semester and it seems really intimadating, but all it really is is paying attention and listening really well. you should spend some time with it. sound is something that you just get in there and work with because you can pick it up really fast if you just work with it.
i did three shows this past semeter when i was just trained on it. i just got done doing my first all miked show. at the start of it the sound guy was going to come to every show that weekend. by the end of the week he was only going to come to one show. that weekend he didn't come to any of the shows.

My first Techie experience I was a ittle fish at my high school and I figured that If I worked really well as a Techie then When I auditioned the directors would cast me based on the fact they knew I was dedicated and alwyas did what was asked.
To make a long story short... I was offered an understudy role because- I WAS SWEEPING A FLOOR DURING A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!! Sure I had done Jesus in GODSPELL, and played a few major roles and even did Lights, stage managed and understudied for THE OUTSIDERS. But This was HIGH SCHOOL, THE BIG LEAGUES. I was so excited it wasn't even funny.
