She found it ironically amusing to be, once again, wandering around with no preferred purpose, though she was back to her old self once more. Her arrogant self, who she had to admit, was much needed at times like this. She was the most beautiful gemstone of all the birthstone mares anyway, so she often wondered how she ended being depressed just because she couldn't get what she wanted. Well, those other stallions out there were missing out on getting their hooves on the most gorgeous thing to even acknowledge them...

Little did Shimshek know she had more competition than Ariston, the one male whom Shimshek acknowledged was much more beautiful than her... unfortunately. She hated it, but at least she admitted it! It felt better for her to admit those kinds of things just so she could say that she was next to the most handsome male in all the Soquili lands. Now, if Shimshek had known there was another mare out there willing to tell her differently, Shimshek would have told that mare to buzz off and try again; there was no competition with her. Yep, she was back to her old arrogant self.

Ah, the beauty of things when they all acknowledged you were the most ethereal mare ever... She had learned many lessons as she had traveled, and after meeting with... she blushed darkly... Taiyaung... she found she believed every bit of how she was the most beautiful mare in the land. She was such a gift; how any male was able to resist her was questioning to the point of calling them idiotic... actually, they really were idiots. Anyhow, the only males she could think of to resist her were Ariston... and... Artemis Entreri. Her eyes and thoughts darkened as she thought about that particular alicorn--thank goodness she was over him--and her hate of him had become a heated passion every time. He was such a torture! In her own way she hoped to never meet up with him again. Ever.

Finally, Ariston was able to find Heartless and make her watch the children. Knowing that Heartless was... unable to cope with emotions, he placed them in a safe haven, and let Heartless relax with the three baskets. It was a must needed break for Ariston, and he soared into the air almost instantly after he was assured that it was safe to leave.

No one would really mess with Kalonas anyways, and Heartless was scary enough on her own. He sighed, though breathed in the chilled air. He never realized how exhausting it was.. to be strained at one place.. ALL DAY. It was nice to finally fly away on his own, and he realized he should have done so sooner. The minutes of nothing became hours by the baskets, and he knew that he just couldn't handle it after awhile. The days of fatherhood were soon creeping up on him, so this was a much needed break for him. He would be happier when his children were out of their baskets, so he could roam around with them, instead of stay confined to one space.

Anyhow, now he could focus on his most favorite thing- Himself. He drifted over a small stream, and gleamed at the way his reflection looked. Such a marvelous sight, if only others could bask in the perfect moment as well. He could never get over his golden auroa, something others only dreamed about.

He enjoyed that he cared for his children, and what beauty they held, though it was getting exhausting to balance all of these emotions and worries at once. Lucky for Heartless, she didn't need emotions, she just had her own way of doing things. Ariston was pretty much the same, viewing the world as for Himself, always. Living as a proud being had its' ups and downs, but he was excited to teach his children such important ways of life. Hopefully they could continue on with such a proper way of living.

Did her eyes deceive her? Further down the stream where she had been carefully grooming her mane so that it was silky and glowed softly--her tail would need a two-legger's work, but otherwise it was perfectly fine--she saw a most familiar stallion. A kalona whom she hadn't thought she'd ever see again. She smiled gleefully, if slightly evilly. She remembered confusing the heck out of Ariston, and well, why not let "friends" reunite?

She tried not to laugh aloud at how her life was. She was a little pathetic, she admitted, but hey, she was... okay, bad thoughts... She shook her head free of thoughts as she slowly approached Ariston. She wasn't sure how to greet him or get his attention, and so she stood there, silently waiting to see if the elegant Kalona would recognize her. She had learned patience, and patience gave her even more beauty, as she had noticed.

Ariston turned his attention to.. hmm a female.. strangely familiar..? He tilted his head. "Ah, Shimsek, was it?" His lips curved, and he was proud that he remembered. "My, it has been too long since you and I have met!"

His memory was dizzy at what he and she talked about, though that was probably for the better. It hadn't occured to him that she and him had.. and interesting conversation. One that was both confusing and exhausting at thought. His brain didn't remember things about others, it really only focused on things about himself, which was never suprising. It probably held reason as to why his memory was so blurry at first.

Though, maybe with this reuniting, they would see how each of them were doing. Ariston had sure changed, and it was obvious for the better, as everything he did was.

"How have you been doing since the seasons changing?" He flicked his tail and looked at her delightfully. Well, it was always nice to meet up with an old aquaintance. Hopefully it would keep him busy on his break from his family.

Shimshek tossed her head proudly, glad to finally be able to show off some of her awesome beauty to someone who clearly appreciated it. "Ariston, the seasons have been well for you, as you're as handsome and beautiful as ever," she said, smiling brightly as she greeted him. "I, Shimshek, although am also beautiful, can only humble before your great power." She was probably the only female Soquili who was vain that admitted that to Ariston, too. "It has been far, far too long, dear friend," she agreed, admiring his smile... she also felt a little proud that he'd remembered her name, even if he mispronounced it.

Her memory of how they first met was slightly blurry but she remembered the gist of it; better to leave things like that unremembered, however, because it wasn't a pleasant meeting. She was better now; she had, hopefully, a new life to look forward to with a handsome stallion all to herself. She sighed cheerfully. "I've been well, my friend! Obviously I gleam even more than usual; do you not agree?" She flashed her golden-silver wings and showed off her pearled body as it gleamed in the sunlight. "Can I not produce such beauty as would satisfy you although you're so much better at it than I?"

Smiling, she beamed at Ariston. "I can see you've grown handsomer, but might I ask why that is?" For once, she wasn't flirting; she was just merely catching up with an old acquaintance she hadn't seen for ages. She ached for companionship, however; although Taiyaung was a likely candidate, she had not seen him for months. She felt slightly saddened by such a thought, but perhaps Ariston could enlighten her on news of himself--of course.

My goodness, of course he was pleased with her bluntness, though, this kind of kindness didn't really ring a bell for him from their last encounter. No matter, he was in a splendid mood himself, but was still feeling confused by the compliments she was bringing. "Thank you.. you look lovely yourself. Has your coat gotten shinier?" He looked at the details, and nodded at its gleam.

"Aye, that is what I noticed of course. What has changed since the last time we met?" He shrugged and looked at her, still confused. He had never met a female in his life who said any of the comments she was saying. "If I might ask," he knew he was trailing into dangerous territory, but that was his favorite, "A beauty that would satify me? Well, that is my own, is it not? The beauty should satisfy you dear friend. Why would something I say or think matter to you so much?" He flicked his tail, and chuckled, a bit perplexed by her comments. "I mean that as no offense, of course, I am just suprised I guess." He looked at her calmly.

"Handsomer? Really?" He flipped his mane. "Maybe in my fatherhood I am hitting a mature stage, as many say." He smiled deviously. "Thank you anyhow, for the compliment." He kept a light smile and tried to shake off his wary feeling.

"Since we last met, has any stallion taken your heart away?" He grinned this time, and moved some of the hair out of his face. One thing he did remember, is that from their last conversation, that didn't seem to be the case.

Feeling oddly cheerful despite the danger of having a Kalona around, Shimshek swished her sparkling tail to and fro as she grinned at the confusion Ariston was probably feeling. He was extremely interesting to talk to, that was for sure. "Yes, it has," she responded with a gleam in her eyes, "I worked several long hours to make sure I absolutely glowed! Perfection is a must, no?" She knew she wasn't perfect, but she'd get as close as she possibly could.

"What has changed? Many things, Ariston, many things," she said, not actually even hinting to what had happened. Truthfully, her life had been uneventful because she had isolated herself for so long, but then she had met Taiyaung... She sighed and nearly rolled her eyes at how obvious the answer was to her earlier question. "Well, of course yourself, you silly stallion. What else would I be talking about if not your glory?"

She smiled as he flipped his mane. "Yes, really. Oh! You're a soon-to-be father, are you? Well, congratulations, though I don't know if the mare you chose would feel to happy with that. I am sure, though, that even if she were a Kalona she does feel some kind of slight Pride... somewhere." She only acknowledged his thanks with a bow of her head. She'd forgotten how much bigger Ariston was compared to her, so she found herself looking up just to talk to him.

"Well... since we last met, perhaps a stallion has," she said, quite vaguely. "But then again, perhaps not. I do not know myself whether my heart has been captured." It was true; although she liked Taiyaung, she actually wasn't all that sure whether she was in love or, like with Artemis Entreri, merely had a crush. Trying times; beauty was painful, yet worth it all.

"Perfection is always a must, I am impressed that you appreciate such a way of life. It saddens me that not enough Soquili make perfection a natural habit." He let out a slight yawn, but tried to hide it by moving his head down pollitely. Everything was just exhausting for him lately, children, and all of the new soquili appearing left and right. "If more acted royally, it would be such a wonderful site to see." He smiled at that thought.

"Well, it seems that you are content with these changes you are going through, so that is good to hear." He nodded, and moved his hair out of his face elegantly. "Yes, Heartless is proud of the children as well, and what the baskets have become. She is learning step by step new emotions, and luckily pride is coming to her easily." He chuckled, hoping that his constant influence had helped her.

"I am suprised, you didn't seem like one who would allow their heart to be captured." He slyly smiled at her, and ached for some details. "Like, Heartless and I aren't in love, she is just an important friend of mine. We both know I love myself too much." He laughed, and was completely serious, of course. "Though, I guess life teaches us other ways of finding other things to be proud about."

"I hope this stallion is worthwhile.." He winked at her. "Can't let yourself be taken by one who isn't worthy enough!" Though, knowing Shimshek, she had a good enough taste to pick a Soquili worthy enough for her attention.

She smiled at the way he looked, and probably felt. Although Ariston kept in tip-top perfect form, even he had his days of exhaustion. "You do not give yourself much rest, do you?" she mused quietly, and a bit gently. "It truly is saddening that not many Soquili think that perfection is something that should become a natural habit. Many of them think their imperfection is their perfection... a concept I don't understand." She agreed completely with his beliefs. "More royalty, though there are some out there who are too snobbish to even acknowledge where they get the influence."

She was, of course, indicating that all of those who had a lot of Pride got that influence from... well, Pride himself--Ariston. Which obviously made him the likely candidate to praise, but her Pride had been downtrodden lately and she only had a mask on like she did right now. Soquili with a lot of Pride could not read others' individual hidden emotions--so she direly hoped--and she hoped it stayed that way. "Yes, quite content, though I still have a few problems I must get rid of," she answered. "I hope I see your beautiful children someday, Ariston; I'd like to meet them. I'm sure they'll carry the wonderful traits of both you and Heartless."

Wonderful? Well, better to compliment than insult, she thought, knowing Kalona were extremely dangerous when it came to their children... she had heard that they didn't seem to care for their children but at the same time were extremely protective of them. She didn't know which was true and which was not; the stories and rumors circulating the Kalona race were most often vague and incorrect, so she chose to ignore that now. "My heart is not in love," she said, bluntly. "It is stone cold, right now. Though I have found perhaps a stallion who thinks he can break it and warm it up. I wonder if this is so, so I allow him to stay with me in my northern home up in the mountains."

What Ariston said about his mate Heartless was probably true; she'd only ever heard of one Kalona stallion showing true affection and that was Windflame... of course, the way he was his personality was so different and more twisted she could only wonder if Windflame cared about his mate Ringlet at all. She couldn't tell; he was always emotionless; he showed only his emotions to his mate, and even then he was just opening up slightly to her. He had many secrets... just like she herself did. "Life is life, point blank," she agreed. She grinned at his wink. "I certainly hope so, my friend," she spoke slyly. "After all, it wouldn't due to have a hopeless male be at my side now would it?"

"I know what you mean, I have run into quie a few that are more obnoxious then anything." He could easily trace back to a few in particular, and they were all mares! He would never say that to Shimsek openly, because he didn't want to make her offended. "And, no I don't give myself much rest these day, I do hope its not showing!" He felt alarmed at the thought, and rubbed his face on his leg. "How dreadful, that would be awful!"

"I hope you get rid of your problems, so that they do not disrupt you." He nodded politely. He understood that whole concept, especially since his children and family seemed to be an entire problem in itself. "I do hope you can meet them, but I am afraid a few of them really take after a different way of life then me." It wasn't the pride, but, Loveless in particular hated the way her father discussed matters with lessers.

"Oh really now?" A stone cold heart, but yet a stallion who wishes to heal it? Now, that sounded very fail tail esq to him. "And, did you accept? It might be good for you to," he thought of the best way to say this, "do something for yourself, and enjoy yourself." Yes, that came out nicely he believed. Plus, if she was feeling down, maybe it could be a boost for her.

"No it wouldn't, but this one who is showing interest doesn't sound like that to me." He nodded in thought, happy to be in someone else's drama for a change. "May I ask who the lucky stallion is?"

"Me being one of them, I assume?" she said wryly, though with a touch of amusement in her tone. "Not that it matters. We're all bound to meet them, and if I meet someone more obnoxious than I, well, that would be... quite the meeting!" she mused, and then nodded. "No rest, hm? Well, that must be horrible, because if you don't get proper rest, you will not be able to even have the energy to keep up your upkeep!" She watched a moment as he rubbed his face on his leg, and offered a prim smile. "It's not showing, Ariston. You're perfectly... ah, perfect, I would say. No other stallion would be able to do what you could."

Not that she knew any stallions who preferred to retain their looks and were so into themselves. "They will vanish soon enough. I find these mind games I keep playing with others and myself to have become something of a bore now, and more of a irritation." She could name one or two such characters but refused to name more than those. After all, her memory only proved so well, and she didn't acknowledge those she felt were underneath her... thus she hardly remembered their names. Perhaps she'd recognize their faces if they were lucky enough, but she knew she was far more intelligent than that. She had wits and looks, a beautiful combination, and sometimes her softer personality would appear, but only to those she truly cared about.

"Yes... but then again, no," she replied, moonstone eyes sparkling mischievously. "Perhaps I will accept... he has saved my life, but I do not know if that is reason alone--or enough--to accept. I gave him hospitality in return for such a thing, but if he turns around and we both do a one-eighty, I actually cannot be so sure about him." She was rambling slightly now, almost confusing herself while she was at it, and then Ariston's next question caught her off guard... slightly. "I've already done something myself, but that is so much effort... the lucky stallion goes by the name Taiyaung... he is a pure-bred unicorn, if you must know his breed."
