The world had called and she had answered, up through the crystal lands and onward until the fruit lands had closed about her. The black mare had hoped that she was mistaken, that it wasn't what she thought... but it was. Standing here looking up at the growing thing there was no denying it. She was going to be a mother. A mother of three.
She couldn't for the life of her remember the name of the stallion whose white markings were carried by one of the growing fruits.
Black Moon? Dark Star? Dark Moon? Black Star? One of the ones with Moon in she thought though wasn't entirely sure. Well, the call would have gone out to him as well and so no doubt she would soon be able to find out.
She was too young for this, surely; hardly a mare herself. Her mother had always warned her to be careful and she'd tried but, in the end, she didn't have a sensible bone in her body. So there was this; these fruits for her to give strength from her own body and then to teach, to nurture, to love. What did she know that she could pass on? How to run? How to fly? How to mess around and have fun? Nothing more than that. Hopefully Moonie, whatever his damned prefix was, would have more to contribute.
Not entirely sure whether to be happy, angry, sad, scared or some combination thereof, Keres waited in a suspension of feeling; her vivid eyes trained on the developing life before her.

What was this odd thing calling to him. Whatever it was, Night could not help but follow it to see what it led to. Thinking back about his past he shook his head a little, hopefully that wasn't what happened. He didn't mean any harm to be done, but now he had done it and there were of course consequenses to pay. Of course, he would not leave the mother alone with the fruits, but when they would hatch he may leave and hope to try to not ruin a mare's life ever again.
The stallion's thoughts quickly drifted to the fruits, would he be a good father to them? Maybe he should leave the mare once they hatch... The stallion thought about all the possiblities. Finally, he came up with a plan, he would do whatever the mare wanted.
Thinking softly for a bit, the stallion wondered what the strange mare's name was... Shrugging softly, he began to think of names for the fruit or fruits that would maybe be growing on the tree.
When he reached the place that he was being led to, he noticed the mare and a tree with three little fruits. Gulping softly to himself, Moon shook his head to calm himself down as he made his way towards the mare. Looking up at the three fruits, he noticed one with a white spot that it had inherited from him. The small almost pure black one caught his eye when he looked through the rest of them.
When he looked at the mare, he nodded a hello and looked back to the fruits that were carefully growing in the tree above.

At the sound of hoof beats, Keres turned about. Ah, there he was. Sooner than she'd expected; that was nice. "Hey there sugar," she said with a slightly lopsided grin. "Ah wasn' expectin' t' see you again s' soon..." Pink eyes travelled up to the branch that held the three fruits and the Reya gave a snort and a slight shake of her head. "Funny lookin' little guys, ain' they?" Her children. Her own children. Yes, that was definitely a scary thought.
Keres glanced briefly over at the sire and then back to the fruits. Now that she saw him again she couldn't find it in herself to be angry at the Ichsa. Hell, it'd been as much her own fault as his and he was here, apparently ready and willing to help.
"My mamma always tol' me that if y' ain' sure where t' get enough food t' keep a tree up y' oughta go t' the twolegs," the black mare said as she turned to face the black and white stallion fully. "Ah dunno how well y' know the area so y' might not've needed me t' tell y' that... Moon, right?" Hopefully she'd remembered that correctly; best not to get off on the wrong hoof with the guy who'd be providing for her for the next however long. Even she could work that one out.

When the mare spoke to him, his ears quickly perked towards her. Hm... she didn't seem to be too mad at him. When he saw the mare's lopsided grin, he let a small smirk appear on his face. "Well, this was a surprise to both of us I guess." He said softly still looking at the three fruits. He didn't believe that he soon would be a father... What an interesting feeling to have...
Imagination getting the best of him, Moon started to hear little foals calling out his name. Daddy! Daddy! Come play with us daddy! Snorting the thought away, Moon wondered how in the world he would become a good father. He, of course, would make sure to be with the mare and try to stay with at least one of the babies rather than just leave the mare to possibly starve and the babies fatherless.
"Are you hungry?" he asked wondering if the mother of his children would need some food soon, or if she didn't need it at all at the moment. Tilting his head at the mare's comment about the twolegs, he wondered about his father ever telling him something about that. "What are the twolegs?" He asked, feeling a little dumb asking such a question. "Yes, my name is Moon, and yours is Kere?" He asked hoping that he got it right.

The black mare gave a soft snort and a grin. "It's Keres but you were pretty close, close enough." Especially considering how well they didn't know one another. Pink eyes were drawn back up to the developing fruits and Keres frowned thoughtfully. "Twolegs." How to explain the odd creatures? "Well... they walk on two legs, don't have a whole lot of hair and have... Kinda paw like things but with real long bits. Hands ah think they call them with fingers an' thumbs. They can pick stuff up with them and make stuff and... stuff." Well that had sounded clever. Oh well, she wasn’t looking to impress the guy so it didn’t matter to her how dumb she might be sounding.
The Reya gave herself a shake and turned her gaze back to the white rumped stallion. "Y' can find them north of here, place called the templed shrines. They pretty much worship us Nequus an' even though they can' understand our language like Zurn an' that can they’re bright an' pretty quick t' figure out what y' want of them." The mare snorted at a fly that had come too settle on her nose. "Ah ain' had too much dealin' with them ma'self but ah've never heard bad of them." They were a peaceful lot from what she'd seen and been told, content to gather what the bountiful land gave to them and willing to share it with any Nequus who could communicate the desire to eat what they had found.

The tall stallion nodded at the mare's name. "Sorry." He simply said then quickly turned his attention to the fruits. They all seemed to be so calm, not moving at all. Well... were they supposed to move? Shrugging a bit, the stallion quickly turned his attention back to the mare's voice. What odd sounding creatures... The stallion thought to himself as he listened to the mare. He thought a minute about the things that the mare called twolegs. Tilting his head softly, he wondered if his old friend Blaze had ever seen any of these so called twolegs. Shaking his head softly, he snapped out his dream-like phase after hearing the mare's voice once more.
"So they worship us? I think I shall look for them then." He said softly turning his attention back to the small fruits that were hanging in the tree above the two nequus. How would he become a father? Moon of all the nequus in the world would be choosen to be a father of three beautiful fruits that he would try his hardest to properly raise. If he couldn't raise all of them right, he would try to raise at least one the right way. Swishing his long tail, Moon sighed softly watching the fruits for a while longer.

Keres nodded her head briefly to the apology and then again to the stallion's half query. "Yes, pretty much from what ah can tell. We can understand what they say, but they don' seem t' understand us." The Reya mare looked back up at her fruits and frowned thoughtfully. "Maybe it was like a swap f' the hands or somethin'," she mused aloud. Made sense; you got to be able to do clever things like make the cloth things they wore instead of fur but you didn't understand a damn word anyone but other two legs said to you. "Think we got the better end of the deal," the black Nequus grinned, pacing closer to the tree.
They looked even better up close, the pink-eyed female considered as she nudged each one in turn. Her children. They were her children. How the hell had she got herself into this? Not that she wished them gone of course, not now that they existed. She did wish she'd been a bit more careful though. She was far too young for this surely.
"Well..." Keres paused and turned back to the tendril-winged stallion with a slight smile. "Once y'all ready y' should get goin'. Ah'm gonna be needin' food as soon as possible. These guys are gonna start suckin' all m'ah energy out now they're growin.” Three fruits were going to be a fair drain on her so far as the short-maned mare knew. Not too bad considering she was fit and healthy but still tiring; she’d lose weight and muscle before this was done, that was for sure. Hopefully this Moon guy was a quick runner; a regular supply of food was a must if she wasn’t going to come out of this looking like a sack of bones.

Nodding his head at the mare's words, he looked up to their children and sighed softly. He wanted to be the best father that he could be, but he didn't think this mare wanted to be around him after the fruits grew into beautiful, leaping foals. "I agree, we must've got the better end of the deal," Moon said thinking about hairless creatures running around with nothing but small cloths to cover them up. Shaking his head out of his thoughts, the stallion looked at the mare, listening to everything she said.
When the mare moved closer to the children, so did Moon. He was a little afraid to touch them in fear of them falling and hurting themselves somehow. Watching the mare closely, she seemed to know what she was doing. Flicking his short tail, Moon kicked his back leg out at a fly that nipped at his back leg.
Once the mare said that she wanted some food, Moon nodded and took one last look at the fruits before he turned the opposite way. He knew that the mare would become very hungry after the long nights, and endless days of watching after the fruits that were dangling from the large tree that stood behind him. Looking around, the stallion followed his instincts to the land that the black and purple mare was talking about, that held the two leggers that would give one food. Hopefully, Dark Moon could somehow get the odd creatures the mare was talking about to give him food quickly and he could make his way back here as fast as he could.

Keres watched the speckled stallion's retreat with a thoughtful frown on her face. He seemed like a decent guy, one who'd take his responsibilities seriously at the very least. She couldn't see herself staying with him once the foals were grown but perhaps they'd stay friends, keep in touch for the sake of their children.
Pink eyes wandered over to the fruits in question once more.
Her mother had warned her about the Hunger, about how her own children might look like food to her as time wore on and the draining worsened no matter how well the black stallion might provide for her. She couldn't imagine harming them now but when the delirium set in, would she retain enough sense to stop herself from tasting them? Keres frowned for a moment at the dark fruits before snorting and giving a slightly crooked grin.
Since when were her actions determined by good sense or rational thought? She had an advantage over most mares here; she was already an instinctive idiot and was used to dealing with weird impulses.
Chuckling to herself, the young Reya mare settled herself protectively beside the tree to await the return of her children's sire.

Time passed and the tree and fruits grew. Food was brought, was eaten and the mare grew thinner and weaker but still the tree and its three fruits clambered on into the sky. One of them, the one speckled with white, remained somewhat smaller than its siblings but other than its size it looked as healthy as the other two did.
Still time passed until one day, when the once muscular mare's ribs had begun to show through in earnest, the three fruits fell to the ground and began to wriggle and twitch.
Today, new life would be born.

The small fruit had gone past the point of twitching and wriggling. It was bouncing, actually leaving the ground with the violence of its movements. Whatever was trapped inside had not yet managed to break through the thick outer membrane of the fruit, and it might have been just as well for the world if it never did. Before long, though, a small pair of hooves burst through the fruit wall - a pair of hind hooves. Well, that wasn't any help. The front hooves tore free a few moments later, along with the rest of the body. The foal's hindquarters bore its father's white markings, but its legs held its mother's purple bands. Its head - her head, for it was a filly - was still a mystery, though...it was stuck inside the remainder of the fruit. She thrashed for a moment, and with a wet schlorrp sound the fruit flew off. It hit the tree with a splat.
"...Maw?"
The filly was tiny, and her voice was wobbly, untested, but sincere.

It felt as though a weight, a great weight, had been lifted from her back. The drain of her strength and vitality had stopped the moment that her children separated from their tree and, from the moment that they had dropped, her pink eyes had been fixed immovably on the trio of tree-siblings. She wasn’t even sure if the sire was there anymore so deeply was her focus held. Her children. Her children were going to hatch.
Keres lent closer, her nostrils whiffling as the smallest of the fruits began to bounce. When a pair of back hooves emerged awkwardly the thin Reya felt oddly as though she shouldn’t interfere. After all this was her, the black and pinkish mare peered, her daughter’s first fight; who was she to step into that?
A moment or two later the foal’s body appeared and then, after some shaking about, its face. The tall Reya grinned like an idiot as her daughter spoke. ‘Maw.’
“Well ain’ you the cutest lil’ runt ever?” she stated fondly, pacing forwards to nuzzle her first child tenderly.

"Runt," the filly echoed. "Runt, runt, runt! Haha!"
She rose on wobbly legs and tottered over to the nearest fruit, headbutting it gently. "Out," she said firmly. "Out, out, out out out!" Apparently she wanted the occupant to come outside and play with her. "Ouuuut," she whined when there was no answer. "Maw, ouuut."

The little one felt the tap of something against her little fruit she was in. What on earth was that thing... whatever it was, it wanted her to come out of hiding and embrace the world. With one hard kick from her front legs, the foal's legs busted through the fruit that she was trapped in for so long. With one toss of her head, her black curved horn slammed through the end of the fruit and she let out a low growl sound. She would get out of this trap no matter what. After a little bit of work, the filly finally got the whole fruit off of her, so she could see the world that she would have to find her way through.
Her eyes finally opened after a bit, and the first thing she saw was the tall stallion that would be known as her father. The next thing was her tall beautiful mother, then her sister who obviously wanted to play, last, she noticed the last little fruit that was still wiggling, trying to get out of the stupid trap they were forced to live in.
The large stallion gently lowered his head to nuzzle his daughter that carried the markings that he held on his rump. His attention then turned to his second daughter that finally got out of her fruit and he gently nuzzled her head as a welcome to the world. The filly carried the same marking as her mother on her rump. A small smile spread a crossed his muzzle as he watched his family slowly developing. Moon wondered how the fillies would grow up to be and act.

Keres bent to nudge at her second daughter, a foolish grin forming on her face. “Well,” she said, turning to face the black Ichsa stallion, “looks like ah’ve named one of them already. Guess you name the other two then, hu?” It seemed fair to her; much as she hadn’t meant to name the speckled filly Runt it suited the little thing well and, to her at least, it had a nice sound to it.
“Bet you won’t ever find anyone else who’s got your name Runt honey,” she commented to the small crossbreed before turning back to nose the second of her brood. “They’re even prettier than ah expected them t’ be,” she murmured, glancing up at the foals’ father with a smile.
He’d done a good job of taking care of her through all of this and she hoped that he remained while the foals were little; every girl needed her daddy after all… Keres’ pink eyes wandered to the third fruit. Would it be another daughter or would it be a son? Much to her delight, Keres found that she didn’t mind either way. A boy might be nice to have but the idea of a trio of sister appealed as well.
The muscular mare paced towards the purple-black thing and gave it a nudge. “C’mon sweetie,” she called, “time t’ come out.”
