After looking for a travelling on her own for a long time, Zuri finally had hope that she may have found a place to rest. It was still a good distance away, but there was a change in the terrain. There was a scrubby area, even the ground that Zuri stood on was different. A few patches of bush scrubs every now and then.
With a hopeful smile, Zuri increased her walking pace as she approached the area. She didn't get very far before she stopped herself. Was she really going to travel into an unknown area like this? Sure, she has been travelling on her own for a long time, but she has not entered any place expecting to meet others. For all she knows, the inhabitants of this area may be dangerous. She doesn't know anything about the place.
On the other hand, if Zuri avoided every type of area she sees, she would probably not ever find her family nor ever get a good rest. It was an adventure, she needed to take risks. Zuri shut her eyes, silently debating with herself to make a decision. Standing still outside this scrubby area's borders, Zuri thought.

Home was a taste on the wind, as tangible as the dirt beneath her paws and the grass swarming about her legs. Her legs, she wrinkled her nose with disgust, which were too weak to carry her much further. She'd promised Ndege that she was strong enough to scout ahead by herself--something he'd never before allowed her to do. Her pride pushed her further to the borders of the lands her heart sang was home, but no matter how much pride and heart wanted her to continue on--just a little further!--her body knew all too well what was coming. It wasn't long before her feet grew too tired and tripped upon themselves, sending the ruddy coloured lioness to the dirt.

She growled, her brilliant ruby eyes squeezing shut at the fall, and for a moment the woman lay that way against the earth. With a sigh, Embamba pulled herself from her make-shift bed enough to raise her head. Her body protested moving much further than that, and she knew better than to force it at this point. Rather, she turned her attention to her surroundings. Yes, this was the home she'd long since been told to take leave of... finally home at last. The lioness could have cried were it not for a grey spot that struck her vision a moment later.

Well aware of how obvious and vulnerable she was at the moment, she ducked her head back lower to the ground and went still. Whatever it was might not see her....

...and she was greeted with the sight of a young cub--far too young to possibly be out on its lonesome. The ruddy lioness frowned, ears slowly perking as she let her eyes roam over the child. A wind told her there were no others with her.. and though she did not recognize the scent nor have any true familiarity with the markings--which were general enough--she thought this child couldn't be of Mteo blood. Still, there was no way to be certain.

Did it truly matter? Embamba's concern grew deeper as she watched the child, and now lost it seemed. Motherhood, though hardly easy, did have its instincts and hers screamed that this child should NOT be alone, no matter how thankful she was that it seemed to be. Even an... outsider... child didn't deserve to be left like this.

"You there," She called, her mouth coming to a decision before logic could do so, "Child? What are you doing?" The voice was obviously, unmistakably that of a mother's in the way it naturally expected to be obeyed. While Embamba had been anything but a harsh or demanding parent, she did know where to draw lines... and she didn't think the child would ignore her.

The sound of a firm voice called to Zuri's attention. Zuri could tell just by the sound that it came from an older lioness, the tone of her voice and her word choice dictated authority. For an instant, she believed it to be her mother's voice, but as she happily turned to look, she realized it was not her mother afterall. Only a slight disappointment to Zuri, she hadn't truly expected to find her mother that simply. Throughout her travels, Zuri imagined her reunion with her family to be climatic. Surely an anonymous mare referring to her as 'child' would be anti-climatic.

"I am looking for my family," replied Zuri, using the most mature and powerful tone she was capable of using. Although she was young, Zuri felt a neccesity to have power in all situations. Not supreme power, but at least enough to be seen as almost equal. "I was seperated from them a long time ago and have been on a quest to find them ever since. I see there is some new land down there, I think there may be others living there who might be able to help me. However, I do not know if those lands are safe or not."

Perhaps this lioness may be from these lands or she may just be an adventurer just like Zuri. If she was, there may be hope yet, she may have met with her family. Oh, the thought of seeing her brother Nuku again brought a smile to Zuri's face.

"You haven't by chance seen a lion cub with the same coat color as me with blue eyes, golden-yellow paws? Or an adult lioness, all golden-yellow with brown paws? Names are Nuku and Churo?" asked Zuri hopefully. There was still heavy doubt in her mind that the lioness will respond positively, but Zuri couldn't help but have some hope. She needed hope if she were to continue on her adventure. Without hope, their would be no purpose or substance her quest. No motivation.
