Leaving the jungle was a scary thing, but Aunt Barafu had said that they needed to move. Though unsure why this was, Bumburuka had never been one to question what either of the two told her to do and thus she left the only home she'd known without complaint.
At first the lack of covering overhead had been something from one of her nightmares, of which she had many. The birds in the jungle had been scary, but there she was able to hide herself from them under ferns and logs and other cover offered by the forest floor. Here they swarmed overhead with nothing between her and them--or so she thought.
A few days travel of having her directly, literally, underfoot for a few days had gotten her family rather snappy. In the end, they'd been forced to teach her about camouflage and hiding in her surroundings. Much to her surprise, the tall grass they now traveled through blended with her coat so that she was almost impossible to see--especially with how small she was. Bumburuka had never felt so powerful! Gleeful again that she was safe from anything with wings, the cub had dashed off to play during their frequent stops just as her siblings did.
It was during one of these stops that she had found a very very small watering hole, barely big enough to hold anything in it, though there seemed to be a strange sort of moving log near one of its banks. She was crouched up on a tiny hill overlooking the east end this puddle, green eyes watching the log in fascination. What could that be? It hadn't moved for a long time now, and Bumburuka was starting to think that going to poke it might be a good idea.
The female glanced over her shoulder back towards where her family had picked as their 'base' for the day. They didn't seem to be watching and they HADN'T told them that anything here was off-bounds. Content in the knowledge that she wasn't breaking any rules she knew of, the cub began to make her way down hill at a light, springy trot; it didn't even occur to her to be stealthy about her movements.

Ru Shou padded through the grass as silently as he could. Being dark red in color, it wouldn't have helped his little adventure if he was loud and obnoxious. He often went around alone just to practice his skills away from his siblings. It was the easiest way to do things without the threat of being attacked, maimed, annoyed, beaten or distracted. To hell with siblings. When he needed to work, he needed to work. Well, siblings were good sometimes but they were more of a handicap than anything at times like this.
Alright, so chasing beetles and butterflies wasn't necessarily an art form but there wasn't much else to do. Ears flicked to the sounds around him. Everything was still seemed so quiet. Maybe they had heard him coming already. Checking between his paws, he found no evidence of sticks or rocks that could've alerted the local bugs. Maybe something else was out there?.
Against his knowledge, he's traveled a bit farther from home than he would've liked in his hunt for prey. Any movement in the grass he followed which had taken him farther than he had ever gone before. The scenery had begun to slowly dissolve into the horizon causing a stir of wanderlust go through him. Maybe later.
Soon, a bit of movement caused ruby eyes to shift away from the forbidden beyond. This was much bigger than a beetle. For the rather large juvenile, it was a welcome change. He crouched down, shoulders hunched back as he crept towards in, intent on hunting whatever it was.

The crocodile watched her as she approached it, though she didn't realize what it was. They didn't have this strange, green sort of logs in the jungle--to her amusement this one even looked like it had legs! Ruka let out a faint giggle, head sinking low as she approached what was, in reality, the croc's tail. She poked at it, pressing into the scales to test the firmness of whatever it was she was touching. The crocodile didn't move, waiting patiently for its meal to come to him.

He silently moved closer to the rustling, ignoring that small paddle of the water. Tail flicking in anticipation, Shou moved through the grass. Red eyes squinted between the golden blades to see something furry and just as bright. The sound of her hushed giggle roused him from his "predator" state and he lifted his head to stare at whatever it was.
Another cub?
Well, it wasn't as far-fetched as maybe a full grown lion being so careless but he was still utterly confused at what she was doing. Just as Shou lifted himself from his couched state, he gasped, lurching forward towards the yellow cub.
"DON'T!"

The cry rang out just as the croc turned her head, knowing she was about to lose her dinner. Ruka managed to jump out of the way of the snap, shrieking as she did. Before she knew exactly where she was running, the brilliantly orange cub was bolting headlong for Ra Shou, colliding with him if he didn't move in order to get herself behind and partially under him. "OH GOD WHAT WAS THAT THING?!"
Thankfully, the croc didn't seem to intent on following its meal over land. Instead it lumbered grumpily back into the water, giving a great splash in their direction with its tail once it had sunk itself in. Ruka watched this all the while, eyes not even blinking as the water rained over them, and whimpered desperately, "The log tried to bite me."

Shou would've gotten out of the way had he had more time. Nearly being knocked of his feet more than once, the red cub was already more frustrated by the time he got a glimpse of the scaled creature sinking back into the water. "Crocodile." He shakily whispered, trying to get the water off his sensitive nose with a paw.
"Very dangerous. Could easily kill you." He'd had enough experiences with crocodiles than he could shake a stick at. They weren't foreign to many around the Pridelands. Maybe she wasn't from around there?
Moving himself a few uneasy paces away from her, he started looking her over, wondering where she could have come from. She certainly didn't look like anyone he knew personally. As he watched, he made slow circles around her as if trying to remember anyone talking about someone like her. "Not from around her, are you?" He wasn't much for talking but it wasn't everyday that a stranger suddenly turned up. Shou considered it a special occasion.

Ruka made a small, somewhat pathetic figure huddled against the ground as she was. It was hard not to be this pathetic, though; she had nearly been eaten. There was also the resounding fact that the girl had little to no spine to speak of; she was a docile creature by nature, and hadn't yet been taught the slightest thing about hunting, so there was some innocence in her that very few still retained, even at her age. There was also the fact that this male was very nearly as frightening as that log had been.
"N-no..." She whispered, ears flat against her skull and eyes large as he circled her. The female tried to turn in a circle to follow him, but only made herself dizzy and sunk down further in the grass. "Are c-c-crocod-diles on the land too?" She asked him fearfully. No matter how nervous his circling made her that log had been worse. It was very unlikely she'd play by one again anytime soon. "I c-came here with my f-family... f-from the jungle..."
