One of my friend's that I met in one of my other online forums was kind of at a loss as to what sort of gifts to bring her host family from America. Like things that can apply to a father , mother, teenager, and a little boy and girl. Something like nice and american-ish without like having the american flag everywhere? XD I personally have no idea. If you guys have any, I'd appreciate it.

I know that the Japanese seem to be into Disney. So maybe something that has to do with Disney characters, like the princesses and mickey...things like purses or keychains or bracelets or action figures...
Hope this helps. 3nodding

How about a book about the area they're from. Like city? And something native to that area... or whatever. The people in my class brought books on Ottawa and Ontario (in English and Japanese for the family and school) and maple syrup and something else.

The disney one sounds like a good idea; like for the little girl and boy. She's down here with me in Florida. I personally don't think Florida is that interesting XD. Maybe a plush of an alligator or something hahah XD.

My mother says when it comes to gift giving. Just consult someone that you know that is the same age as the person you want to give a gift to. 3nodding
Ask the people you know what they would prefer as a gift.
It works like 94% of the time. mrgreen

From what I've seen people say in other forums, anything from where you live would be fine. Being in Florida myself I would say something that you can only find in Florida.

FOOTBALL.

Japanese are clueless about American Football and alot of them are extremely interested in learning about it. Since you're in FL, give 'em some GATORS gear, or SEMINOLE stuff. They'll love it. If you want something more "american" baseball stuff is always a big hit. I'm sure stuffed alligators, alligator jerky and disney stuff would go really well too since you're in FL.

Well, like people have been saying, get local things. Alligator stuff is cool. A little viewbook or book of pictures or postcards from your town. Some sort of locally made food or sweet (that won't spoil that easily). If they've got small children, Disney things are good. Disney World is in Florida, is it not? So that's appropriate both ways. Also, things that you associate with yourself can be good. Like if you always wear a certain baseball cap or something like that, or if you're really interested in something (I dunno, a football team or some such).

This is what I brought when I went:
A decorative plate with a map of California with little images showing where things are
Fudge from the Fudge Shoppe, which is a local shop
Little Wooden Clogs (I'm from near a very Danish town)
A flowy skirt like I wear all the time, for my host sister
A little photo viewbook of my town
A longer book about my town (in English, since they didn't have it in Japanese, but it was mostly pretty easy language)
A box of chocolates, just as a more traditional gift in thanks for their hosting me

I hope that that might help. I might have brought a couple more little things, but it's been a long time...
