"If you insist..." Akari replied softly, still feeling a little bit of the guilt from when she scared him. His crying face was certainly not a fun sight to see, especially knowing that she caused it. Tears didn't fit the guy. He was too kind for that. Slowly walking up towards him, she licked his face as if to apologize and rid his tears at the same time. After that simple, absent-minded gesture, she patted him on the head softly with a soft smile. Maybe it really was ok, or at least, not as bad as she thought?

She nodded lightly, trying to remember the little pond which was just outside of HQ. But which direction was it? Glancing around she tried to remember the place. Could she, though? It was such a long time ago that she visited that place, and only once, too. That was what, back when she was a teenager or kit? It didn't matter, though, since she just wanted to make it up to Sere. If it meant finding the water hole, then so be it. Vaguely remembering, she pointed in the direction just a little off from HQ. If she remembered correctly that was where it was.

Absent-minded, perhaps, but it made Sere blush anyway. But lucky him. Once again his dark coat blocked the embarrassing sight. At least the lick had gotten its job done. He'd stopped crying for the most part and his fur had begun to absorb any leftover moisture. Yet, it would be obvious that he'd been crying for a while afterward. His eyes looked puffy and the tears had still left their mark.

When she looked away, trying to remember where the pond had been, he sighed. The strange thoughts he was beginning to have seemed to smack him in the face as his mind told him to stop. Shaking his head, he tried to rid himself of what was bothering him. When she pointed out the way, he barely noticed, lost in his own little world. Startling back to reality, he smiled sheepishly. "This way? Okay..." He stood, shaking out his pelt with lack-luster vigor. And even though he'd acknowleged, he still waited for her to go first, since he had no clue where the water was.

The female flashed a faint smile at her friend before she turned her attention back onto finding the pond. What memories she had of that place was vague. It would be rather hard to recall from memory, but that's all she had to rely on. Though maybe she would somehow stumble upon it subconsciously. She felt the need to find it for Sere's sake, as she was still feeling guilty over the whole incident earlier. Not to mention, she was getting pretty thirsty herself.

Step by step, she moved forward at a slow pace. Her light colored eyes flickered back and forth, still a little unsure of where exactly she was leading Sere. She wanted to lead him towards the pond, but that may not necessarily be where they were headed.

Pausing temporarily in her tracks, she turned back to face her dark furred friend, "Just so you know...I'm not really sure if we're headed the right way," She chuckled nervously, "But let's hope so, because I honestly haven't got a clue as to where we're headed...Consciously anyway."

Sere mirrored the smile, nearly automatically, out of some will to please her despite the fact that he was still on shaky paws. As soon as she turned away, however, he internally cursed at himself. Before, smiles were few and far between when it came to this skittish male. She'd made it easier for a genuine smile to grace his maw and he hated how he suddenly felt for offering her such a false front. As they slowly moved along, the male kept his gaze trained on the ground, despite the slight urge to look up and take in the sights. After all, he never knew if he would need to find this pond on his own. The ever-changing patterns of the springy earth would do no good in that aspect.

Only when Akari spoke did he dare to lift amber eyes to her. Perhaps to make up for before, he smiled. Yet, it seemed genuine enough. A smile meant only to right a past mistake would still appear forced. "That's okay." The dark Kitsu shook his head, looking past her face for a moment, though nothing overly interesting sat beyond her form. Returning his gaze to her, he nodded gently. "I tr-" He hesitated. "I think we'll get there." He'd wanted to say he trusted her guidance, but something told him that sounded too stupid. He looked sheepishly to his paws.

For the brief moment that they exchanged glances, she was glad that he not only looked into her eyes when he spoke, but rather smiled too. It was still a little forced, but better than nothing, she supposed. She thanked him for his encouragement, as it made her feel slightly better about searching for that illusive pond. But she already knew that if she didn't find it soon, she would feel discouraged in no time.

"Thanks," She replied softly before turning around. Her eyes continued to search for that pond, while her tails remained relatively idle. Perhaps she was concentrating a little too hard on finding such a place. It wasn't even that Sere wanted to find it badly, but the inner guilt within her that pushed her forward.

As the couple continued onward, her ears flickered at the sounds of familiar noises. Light water sounds. Probably from avian animals that could swim. This was encouraging and lifted her expression. From behind, Sere could probably tell her change of expressions from the sudden movement of her tails.

"I'm pretty sure it's this way. I think we're getting closer. I heard water sounds," She nodded eagerly.

The femme's lifted mood, not surprisingly, did well in lifting his own. Despite himself, his tails flicked to life, as well, brushing the ground just slightly in their movement. Unable to resist, he picked up the pace, coming into an even step with her. "What did I tell you?" He asked, voice laced with a joking, playful sort of air. He'd calmed considerably compared to just minutes before. For all his shaking nervousness, he couldn't remain upset with her. Honestly, he hadn't been so angry in the first place, just startled. Very startled, he conceded.

Tilting his ears forward, Sere listened for the sounds she heard. He was graced with a responce to his attempt. The swishing made by floating fowl wasn't so familiar to him, but he could still catch the ring of clear water, if there was such a thing. Perhaps it was his mind playing tricks on him. But what a nice trick, making him believe there was fresh water to soothe his throat nearby.

"I wonder how much further?" He questioned aloud, though, at first, he hadn't meant to. Not that he was impatient, just curious. All three tails continued to sway eagerly out behind him, making his steps look a little more peppy than they were.

Her smile lightened at his light-hearted response and encouragement. They found it, at last. Now that she found it, though, she didn't feel that it was out of guilt at all, but rather just to please and help her thirsty friend next to her. And of course, to quench her own thirst.

Long ears flickered at the noises again, trying to make a rough estimate of their distance from the pool of water. "Probably just behind those bushes, I think," She nodded her head forward to indicate the general direction. Her eyes eagerly watched the distance ahead of her while stealing glances at her seemingly more peppy friend.

"You know," Akari said out loud, "When you walk like this, I think it makes you look more cute," She laughed innocently. The light blue female wasn't flirting by any means, just stating her opinion through observations. Sere did really look cute when he walked a little peppier than usual. It was merely an innocent, harmless compliment. Maybe this would encourage him to walk with a bit more confidence.

"So close?" The male was surprised that he couldn't hear the water better. He was far from complaining, though. The closer, the better. Well distracted by the bushes ahead, he hardly noticed the stolen glances.

Of course, as soon as Akari commented, he nearly stopped in his tracks. It took a lot to keep going. "You think so...?" He questioned, voice once again dropping to the soft tones he used to always use. It didn't really occur to him that she was merely making an observation. Even so, the comment didn't do as it was intended. Sere's tails stopped their happy movement and he slouched a bit. The entire time he felt horrible, as if now he was letting her down because he was embarrassed and felt the urge to curl in on himself.

He was at a loss for words now, not sure whether or not he should honor her compliment with one of his own. For surely he thought her pretty enough. Yet, he remained quiet, trying, though mostly in vain, to lift his form into its peppier stride once more. "I'm sorry..." he muttered, the apology coming out of no where. He doubted she even knew what he was apologizing for. Looking to her, he smiled sheepishly, tails just barely picking up in a swing.

It took a little while to notice Sere stopped again. She took a couple more steps before stopping in her own tracks to peek back with a curious look upon her face. Of course, she wasn't sure as to why he stopped in the first place. "Yes? And why did you stop, something the matter?" Her head tilted curiously off to the side a little bit, waiting for a reaction from him.

The lack of energy in him was slightly discouraging to her. Her ears only picked up a murmur, but couldn't quite pick up the words. "Sorry, what'd you say just now? I couldn't hear too clearly." Akari, of course was full of concern for her sheepish friend. Just why did he stop so suddenly and what did he say in that murmur of his? At least the sight of seeing a smile, though a sheepish one, was slightly more encouraging. He was returning back to life...even if only a little bit.

"Nothing. Just nothing." This time he spoke up again. He'd decided to grasp the given opportunity. If she hadn't heard him, then he really didn't have to explain. Perhaps they could continue as if nothing had truly happened. After all, he didn't like to worry her. Doing his best to shake the feelings away as he next shook out his pelt, he smiled. Trotting back up to her, he shook his head, as if to again empasize his answer.

Once again, he looked to the bushes blocking the water. "I'm getting really thirsty, though. Let's go." Even after speaking, he didn't readily move. Instead he stood still, as if waiting for her to give some sort of signal that would allow him passage to the pond she'd led them to.

Finally, he took a step forward, tails flicking gently against the ground in an unaffending manner. Sucking in a deep sigh, he grinned. "I'll beat you there." And he took off for the bushes.

"If you say so..." She replied softly as she waited for him to catch up again. Of course, there's always something that's wrong. But it's better not to encourage it, especially if it's a negative thing. Again, his smile encouraged her to think of it as nothing more than just a mere momentary thing. Maybe he was speaking to himself about something. Best not to intrude upon a private conversation.

Before she even registered his words he was already a few paces ahead of her. "Wait, what? Hey! Wait up!" Akari yelled out loud before starting a run of her own. Her long ears flickered back towards her head while her tails remained low. Each of her steps were long strides rather than short paces. She had to catch up with him with long paces or else she'd undoubtedly lose.

"No fair! You got a head start!" She yelled as she tried to catch up to him.

"All's fair!" Sere called back, an unfamiliar playfulness, more than he ever remembered feeling, filling him. Running was his forte, no doubt. All those times bolting from danger had surely paid off. His sprint was more calculated and straight. Without a threat, he was certainly less likely to run into something. It was almost sad, considering that was how, or rather why, he usually stopped running.

Yet, calculated or not, it was still a risk when he decided to look back. The wind caught on his fur and face and slowed him, now that he was no longer as aerodynamic as possible. To balance his form, all three tails began to twitch, gently at first, but quicker as he spent more time looking the wrong way. He was still winning, sure, but he could see her gaining momentum and ground with strides that matched his own. Soon they would be tied, if he didn't do something.

The muscles in his neck thanked him as he finally returned his gaze to the path. But even with all of his pondering, he probably would've done better to merely pay attention. The very same bushes they'd been racing to seemed to jump out of no where. Instead of gracefully slipping under them, as he'd been plotting, he ran right into them. A yelp left his maw as the longer parts of his fur tangled in the 'menacing' foliage.

Her strides were short and quick. The light blue furred female continued running in the same form as she started. She could tell she was gaining ground on him with these short bursts of speed. There won't be long until she would at the very least, tie with her 'cheater' friend.

Akari would merely stick her tongue out when Sere glanced back. Obviously, she was displeased with the fact that he had a head start. However, she could see that he was heading towards the bushes. Undoubtedly he would win soon.

Sere ran into the bushes in a rather...unexpected way. Akari had at least expected him to duck under rather than running into the bushes. Running closer towards him, she asked with humor and concern at the same time, "Are you alright?"

"I think so..." The male responded, torn between laughter and embarrassment. Wriggling, he freed most of his caught fur. Some of it still stuck though, willing as ever to make him look foolish. After a bit more work, he was able to pry himself free and step out of the bushes. However, with his new look, it was hard to tell he'd even left the bushes at all. Leaves clung stubbornly in his fur, standing out obviously against the black.

Sere couldn't help but think that Lady Luck was playing games with him again. His mind told him over and over that getting stuck that backly in the bushes wasn't something that happened to normal Kitsu. Still, something kept him from feeling too bad about it. For once, he didn't much mind. Smiling at Akari, he nodded gently towards the offending bushes and the sound of water that'd helped them find this place.

"Wanna go, then?" He said, chuckling ever so slightly. He sounded almost relaxed. However, as his first words after thinking about his boundless bad luck, they were strained; of course, only enough to be heard by someone who was intently listening for a slip-up.

Akari smiled gently at her laughing friend and decided it was alright to join in the laughter, too. A relatively carefree and heartfelt laughter rang out deep within her throat. It was a rather funny situation Sere found himself in.

"You know, you still have twigs and leaves all over you," She laughed lightly, "You could almost pass up as a Halloween monster."

"Of course," She nodded tentatively and headed in the direction in which they first set out. The strained voice was not obvious to her at all. She never picked it up, as she thought he was almost perfectly fine save for the bushyness of his outward appearance.

"You think so?" Sere questioned, not looking too put-off by being compared to a Halloween monster. Instead, he merely shook out his fur, for whatever that was worth. Some of the leaves unstuck themselves and floated to their forest floor graves. The rest remained steadfastly tied to his fur. A frown slipped to his maw.

"They won't come out," he said with slight disdain as he followed Akari. This time he was careful to avoid the bushes. Luckily, they didn't jump out to grab him or anything unlucky like that.

Once the pond was in clear view, he sighed, though he hadn't meant to. The race had dried his throat even more. His gaze left the pond just long enough for him to flash a sort of sheepish grin at the femme before he padded to the water's edge. Dipping his muzzle into the cool liquid, he drank thankfully.
