So true- this is the smegging garbage can episode! biggrin
this episode is interesting to me for two main things- the commentary on religion, and the question of alien life.
I don;t know if there;s life out there or not. I've lost just a bit of interest in the question when I realized that, even if there is, it would be too far away to make communication possible. I do sympathize with Rimmer for wanting to find alien life forms, though. The gelfs are obviously unsuitable to life with, and no emotional or intellectual company. So without aliens, they're not just alone in the universe- they're just alone- dead stop. That thought would be enough to drive a person crazy.
