Just come here to talk about the sub-genres themselves, or if you have questions. or even just recs. for a certain one. My favorite would be Traditional Doom, and the poll is in the order I like them. Here are some examples of the sub-genres. Traditional - CandlemassStoner - Electric WizardSludge - CrowbarFuneral - PantheistDrone - EarthDeath/Doom - diSEMBOWELMENT

does anyone else see Doom Metal as, to a certain extent, the "emo" of extreme metal? i mean don't get me wrong, it's great stuff, but check out the lyrical content. to me, there seems to be a very fine line between Emo and Doom.

No, it is not the "Emo" of metal. That is too much of a generalization. Yes, there is some really sad and depressing stuff but, there are also plenty of Doom bands that have a more anger type sound like a lot of Sludge is actually pretty angry, and I don't think I've heard any sad Stoner Doom.

Wow, i mean wow. Comparing emo and doom is like comparing night and day. How can you take a band like Ahab or Earth or Candlemass and call them emo? Doom deals with death, depression, sadness, melancholy, love, nature, and religion. Doom is so beautiful, it just pounds my soul. For me at times there is nothing more beautiful than a great doom band, when it comes to music. And saying it's the emo of extreme music is like a cheap shot at it's inner being.

Well, he isn't completely wrong. There is a lot of really sad, depressed Doom. It's just that what he said was too much of a generalization. And actually I can see how Candlemass can be considered "emo" especially songs like Solitude, as well as bands like Worship and Warning.

I never said there wan't sad depressed doom, i actually said there was. I'm saying that calling doom, the emo of metal is wrong. Just because something is sorrowful or depressing doesnt make it emo.
