The day was overcast, a quiet hush having fallen over the fields and streams as the promise of rain grew heavier in the air as the day waned. As a result, the animals had all nestled down in their homes and tucked away the ambitions of an afternoon romp, all of them - including a certain eagle.
Carl was bored, with very little to do inside today. His mom was working on a term paper for some obscure class, leaving the bird to his own plots and devices. Whether or not she knew he actually had been plotting didn't particularly matter since it really had been too easy to look up adresses in Iris's record of velvet parents, and the bird had picked at random some one to come.
And by some one random - he meant some one he still had yet to grace with his company, at least to his memory. Some one named Luse, or something like that. The name had been shortened, so he'd simply make it a point to make the velvet introduce himself.
The invite had stated the time, and the time grew near, Carl slipped from his window perch and moved to the door - hoping that it had been accepted.

A minute or two past the designated meeting time passed before Carl would be able to hear a soft indescernable conversation on the other side of the door; a woman's voice, that almost sounded like it was talking to itself, but was simply revealed that the other voice was very quiet, likely in proportion to it's owner.
Only a moment longer passed before there was a soft knock on the door - perhaps not enough to bother Donna from her paper, or perhaps it had been? Who could say but Donna...
Patient silence followed that knock and whoever was on the other side prefered to wait instead of only giving it a moment to knock again. They were certain that someone was there and just needed the time!

Carl looked back, casting a glance at his mother. She hadn't moved though, so apparently the knock had gone unnoticed in her focus. It hardly mattered though since Car lwas quite capable of taking care of himself and simply reached out and tuged on the string. Yes - a string. Donna had tied a rather thick string to the doorknob a while back that allowed Carl to open and shut the door as needed. The earlier of the two options was exercised now and with an ease only found in having such strength the door swung open and in to reveal the host of the house.
"Welcome! I see you recieved my invitation!" The bird hadn't quite looked up to find the other velvet yet, but instead bowed and rose again, only at that point turning up the sapphire eyes to seek out his playmate and its caretaker.

And when he did look up it was drizzling and Carl would see the Velvet Lusiphur standing there, covered by his 'mum' and her umbrella, smiling sweetly.
Lusiphur on the other hand was a little weary of his cold feet and stepped up to the doorframe - a small reprive from the wetness - and returned that bow rather gracefully for a creature as 'strange'ly shaped as he. "I did indeed." In fact, he produced it to prove it! Not that Carl didn't know who he was sending invitations to, but Lusiphur only felt it appropriate to bring it with him.
"I was surprised," he admitted gently, "to get it."

Now he hadn't expected a spider...but than again he had chosen randomly, so Carl wasn't duly dissapointed. The bow of the other actually served to bring an amused grin to his features as he motioned to the indoors. "I'm glad to hear it. Would you like to come in and out of the rain? It's more comfortable in here."
As was obvious, but Carl wanted his guest to feel like...well...a guest! So it was only just that he invite him and his mother in, if she chose to stick around.

Lusiphur nodded and picked his way in on appearingly delicate legs with an appreciative sigh, glancing back to his caretaker who simply smiled at the two and winked.
"You know how to reach me," she teased softly. "Go have fun."
That brought a small smile to Luse's face and he nodded, turning back to Carl just as his caretaker seemed to disappear into the shadows behind him. On a cloudy day there were plenty of shadows to choose from. "It's nice to be, I suppose...noticed? Though I am curious as to why you've chosen me, when there are surely other more...interesting Velvets?" Unless there weren't...but Lusiphur wasn't about to assume anything!

The idea of a vannishing guardian didn't much bother him after having spent a week with Willow. Ah yes - the one who had brought up Lusiphur's name in the first place! As well as the curios streak in him. Carl circled around the spider for a moment and looked him over critically, investigating the first insect Velvet he'd ever laid eyes upon as though it were some rare thing to have quite so many legs. But his expression was a casually pleased one when he came back to the front.
"Sure there are other interesting Velvets, but I'm interested in you. I've heard the girls talk about you and thought we should get to know one another." And had he not prepared for that? Indeed the bird had already gone through the motions of ensuring various devices to make the afternoon an interesting one.
Granted - he still had yet to find what sort of person this Luse was, but he was going to find out - one way or another.
"So, what can I do to entertain you? We've got movies, games, food...I would say a nice big yard as well, but that's a bit damp at the moment."

Lusiphur watched Carl as he circled; with the five eyes he'd been granted it was easier and he didn't have to turn his head too far in order to do it; his perephreal vision wasn't half bad either. Luse was simply glad that his 'nervous twitch' didn't show itself...which meant he must not have been nervous! Good!
Still, Lusiphur was not prepared - entirely - for Carl's words. The girls? There was Willow, but who else, and why were they so interested in him that he was worth gossiping about? Hmmm...
"It promises to be interesting," Lusiphur agreed readily, curious about the other as well and finding it an appropriate time to find out about him just as much as he was going to find out about Luse. "What games?"

Ah the games, perhaps this one was interested in a certain genre? Albeit he was no genius, by any means, Carl did know how to narrow things down a bit. "Games of chance and luck, games of strategy, or games of physical skill...I'm fond of the latter myself. Idoor volleyball and the like...But what would you prefer we play? We have chess, monopoly, twister, guess who, among others..."
All of which were leftovers from Donna's rather extensive family. It seemed that she was in charge of the children of the clan, so it only made sense that she had a few of her own and the means to keep them busy.

"I would gladly challenge you to volleyball, unfortunately that is an outdoor game - unless you've some way of playing indoors?" Well he could hope! Idly the spider thought on hide and seek for a moment before pushing the idea from his mind with amusement. He would likely be a master of that game, likely.
"I'm not surprised if not," he supplemented softly before thinking. "Do you have monopoly? I know the rules to that one..."

"We have indoor volleyball, actually. It's suited to our size in fact."Ah yes. The doll voleyball court. It was needless to say that the dolls were no longer...among the crop. Carl had gotten rid of them easily enough by pawning them off to girls for some quick cash, enough t ofuel his interest and sattisfy him for their lack of presence. In their stead, metal replaced the eerie eyes of imperfect women who simply failed to capture his interests.
Carl motioned for Luse to follow, moving towards his private chambers (room essentially) to see what he meant. If Luse followed him, he might perhaps be impressed. The walls had been painted a dark sapphire blue, silver trim outlining the area only to meet with nearly black wooden flooring. The chamber had been broken up as well, far large enough to content some one of velvet size, and large enough to house whatever whim struck Carl's fancy. The choice was obvious. Metal lay piled in one area, a small silver hammer and notes made out besides, as well as a lighter to heat the substance. Beyond that was a workout area, various weights and equipment serving his physical desire to obtain a flawless physiche. It was very close to there the volleyball court lay. White chalk outlined the playing field, a net and ball already centered within it, and a score panel placed beyond the sidelines.
"See? Volleyball. But if you would rather play monopoly, than I can fetch that out."

Of course Lusiphur followed - he was curious. But as ever he made no sound when he went creeping after Carl on his six legs, quiet as a shadow on those spindly legs that appeared so delicate. He was impressed by the decor of Carl's living space but it was actually a lot brighter than he was used to...
If he was older and understood a little more the workings of the world he might be bemused by the fact that he was indeed living in his mother's basement.
He noted the volleyball court with a silent glance and moved forward to inspect the 'field' - he knew the game was usually considered an outdoor one and that it involved an inflated ball, but beyond that his knowledge failed him. "I do not mind playing volleyball one bit," he nodded, "but you may have to teach me the rules."

Carl nodded and picked up the volleyball. "This is the ball, as I'm sure you've grasped. When you serve it, you have to be behind this line." And to that he pointed at the line by Luse's feet. "You can serve it over hand, like if you were throwing it, or underhand like you were blocking it. It has to be in sight - which shouldn't be a problem for either of us, seeing as I have eagle eyes and you have eight very sharp eyes." he then motioned to the net. "The ball shouldn't hit the center of the net, but if it just skims the top than that's ok....Let's see..No hitting each other with the ball, and that about sums it up. Now, to score, all you have to do is hit the ball onto my side, and if it hits the ground inside the lines - you get a point. If I hit it and it hits the ground on your side. I get a point. We'll play until some one reaches ten, and whoever does first is the winner."

Lusiphur watched as Carl explained, choosing only to nod at the end to show his comprehension for the rules that had been explained to him. He wasn't old enough or clever enough yet to start trying to think of ways to go around the rules - or over them - without breaking them, but it was always nice to know the allowed parameters.
"Sounds good to me. Would you be so kind as to serve...since you are the host?" Lusiphur had a feeling that there was more to serving the ball than Carl was letting on; perhaps it slipped his mind to mention it, but serving it 'underhand' sounded more complex than Luse would admit aloud.
Perhaps it would make more sense when - if - he got to witness it.

Carl nodded and tossed the ball up, watching it rise carefully before pushing himself up on one foot and smacking it once it came into range, sending the white sphere sailing towards Luse's side of the feild and into play. With as many legs as he had, the bird felt the assumption of him being challenging was a safe one - but he'd simply wait and see what Luse would do once it started to fall into striking range.
(( Shall we roll dice to score? 1-5 being a successful hit 6-10 being missing the ball? We'd roll dice each turn to determine if they're retaliation strik was successful as well. 3nodding ))
