Thwip, thump, thwak, thwip, thump thwak, the three sounds loopd over and over as the lacrosse ball flew from Miller's stick into the cafateria wall, and back into the stick again. He never did like wall ball alone, it always grew boring not having someone to talk to, but with Nita on bad terms, Gaius wanting to throttle him on sight, and all the other issues he made for him self he ended up finding that he once more spent a lot of his time alone.
Thwip, thump, thwak, was the only thing to keep him company at the time, it was strange, he could almost feel normal doing this, the gloves covered up his now feathery hands, if not for the feathers continuing up his arm and every where else he could imagine he was normal again.

Since Marshall's birthday party, Nita had been even more careful to avoid places where Gaius might be. Now that it had been made all too clear that they really were being kept apart, she was determined not to let it happen again. They were both complying, both obeying... and hopefully proving to Duvert that Gaius was learning his lesson.
In any case, Nita had taken to eating all of her meals in her own duplex, only making trips to the cafeteria to restock her refrigerator. She was just leaving, paper bag in hand, when the rhythmic smacking of... something... caught her attention. Nita peered around the corner of the building to investigate.
Blue. Feathers. Crap. It was Miller. She stepped back a few paces; maybe he wouldn't notice her.

Thwip, thunk, he missed, slowly shaking his mind of the delusion of being normal again Miller went to get the ball, he hadn't watched it coming back, nor did he notice Nita when she nearly went by.
Still half in his own little world Miller went after the ball keeping his eyes on the ground watching his bird like feet going one in front of the other. So distracted from the world around him, he didn't even realize Nita was there till he was standing right in front of her picking up the ball.
Oh crap, Nita. He stood there staring at her as he realized who it was standing before him, the ball was ready to be scooped up but his mind froze, all he could remember was all the trouble between him and Nita lately, he tried to find the words to simply say hello instead all that he could muster was a half hearted chirp.

She should have backed up more. The ball rolled to a halt inches from her feet, and there came Miller to retrieve it. As he stood staring at her, Nita leaned down and picked up the ball herself.
He had obviously seen her.
"Hi," said Nita shortly, dropping the ball into Miller's glove.

Slowly he squeezed his hand around the ball before lowering his gloved hand down to his side while the other bounced the lacrosse sticks head off the ground.
Hi, that was it, no yelling or accusations, but the way she spoke that hinted ever so slightly the obvious fact that she was still not pleased with him. It annoyed him, how could she still be bitter over that when her new little boyfriend kicked his a**? Of all the people in this she was the one getting off with out a scratch on her, quite literally for that matter.
"You still pissed at me over Lauren I assumez?" he spoke slowly, quietly, but his voice had the same hint of annoyance that Nita's own carried, at least for the time being as he spoke it was clearer then normal.

Well, that was blunt! Was he deliberately trying to get her riled up?
"I won't say I'm thrilled," Nita told him. "But whatever. It's over." She attempted to keep her tone light. "Let bygones be bygones and all that jazz."
Nita smiled, hoping it didn't look too forced.

Stupid move on his part, but it was the only thing he could think about when he saw her. It was hard to belelive the last time he had seen Nita was when Lauren and her where both carrying on, some of them crying Gaius barging in.
But she was right, it was over for the time being. He looked down at the ball in his hand, breifly trying to avoid eye contact, but eventually he had to look up any way forcing a bit of his own smile back to her. "Yah, that works I guessz."
He shifted his grip on the stick holding it closer to the head as he dropped the ball into it before looking up again offering the ball in the stick to her, "Catch?"
Stupid request, and probably the worst person to ask, but he had to, he liked Nita, she was nice to him even when he did some stupid things. He didn't want her hating him for the rest of his life, especially if that meant having Gaius hate him too.

Nita laughed in spite of herself. Miller was hard to stay mad at, and really, he was just a kid. Not to mention, having enemies really sucked. Especially considering how small the village really was. Deliberately avoiding people was hard enough, as Nita knew all too well.
"Oh all right," she said, propping her bag against the wall. Nita flexed her fingers thoughtfully: she could still hold a pencil, but were her fingers long enough to catch a ball?

Miller smiled again, this time it was one of true relief, he offered Nita the ball before going to lay his stick and gloves down beside her bag.
He took a few paces away from Nita before turning around to catch, the question for him wasn't if his fingers were long enough, but could he catch a ball with a hand covered in smooth and soft feathers? It didn't matter though, Nita laughed, and right now that was enough to keep him happy.
"Come on then! Lets see if you got an armz!"

Nita opened and closed her fingers around the ball, then tossed it lightly from one hand to the other to get a feel for its general size and weight. The dark pads on her palms provided some traction, although her fingers really were too stubby to grip properly.
"Ready?" she called, tossing the ball underhand to Miller.

Miller crouched down letting the ball fall down and into his cupped hands, he grinned a bit rolling the ball back and forth before standing up to throw it back.
Only to drop it as it slipped out his hand among the feathers, he gave a bit of a sigh crouching down to pick the ball up tossing it back underhanded this time, "Stupid feathersz..."

Nita gave him a sympathetic look, but the budgie boy recovered easily enough. Taking note of Miller's method, Nita caught the ball with both of her hands. Fortunately the ball wasn't any bigger, or else her shortened fingers wouldn't wrap around it properly.
She tossed the ball back. "So...," Nita called. "How've you been?"

Miller crouched down once more catching the ball tossing slowly and more carefully making sure he didn't drop it. It eventually felt a bit more comfortable and the ball continued back and forth.
"Eh... been better?" he said, "Laurenz is ummm having issues? Wez haven't spoken much latelyz." He shrugged.

Nita caught the ball again, grateful that Miller was throwing it right to her. Although she was fairly agile in the trees, her movements on the ground were much more deliberate. Having to go chasing after a ball wasn't exactly on her list of Favorite Things To Do.
"Ah..." she mumbled, letting things fall quiet as the soft thunk of the ball on fur and feathers turned into a steady rhythm. After a few moments she ventured, "What... What kind of issues? You don't have to tell me," Nita finished in a rush.

Chasing balls was half of lacrosse so it didn't bother him much if he had too, which he did a few times when the ball slipped through his hands. After one such situation he paused in passing rolling the ball from hand to hand pondering Nita's question.
"Well, we kinda hadz a fight relating to the labs, she kinda had a break downz about the whole being knocked out for a few monthsz." He mentioned the knocked out part with a bit of bitter sarcasm having learned it was a joke. "She just wasn't all togetherz to begin withz, telling her it was the labz fault only made stuff worsez."
