Anyone have any tips on teaching a language along with the culture of the peoples who speak it? I want to teach English somewhere, but I also want to teach some of the cultures and possibly some dialects of English-speaking countries around the world such as Britain, South and North of the US, Ireland, Australia...

Maybe make activites to go with the lessons? i.e. if you are teaching clothing vocabulary, tell them about typical clothing, and maybe have some games that will help them remember both the vocabulary and the culture.

As they advance some, give them stories and dialogues which touch on cultural issues, then explain them further? Or have them watch tapes of American films or TV programs that demonstrate the point you're trying to make.

I actually have two movies I could use! xd Anyone ever heard on Harakiri or Kagemusha? I think I'll ask about those when I get around to the lessons...

Yeah... Have them watch movies (in the language) that show the culture. For Chinese, my group watched three movies in the language, with subtitles. We're also going to some resturants and China Town later this year.

Actually games doesn't necessarly works with all teenagers .... I think that you could also tell some legends and stories to captivate them intellectually and its good on both points : it makes them focus on the language and if they understood it, they'd feel proud for understanding somethig in the regarded language

For teaching dialects to advanced English students, you might want to send them clips of people speaking in different dialects. For example, you could show scenes from the documentary American Tongues to teach American dialects. In fact, I recommend the documentary to native speakers of English, too. It makes you realize how huge America is and how many cool cultures are in it.

For clothing vocabulary, after you show basic clothes, then have some clothing that is "typically ______" to show clothes that people associate with that country. Like do hat, shirt, pants, jeans...then do things like kilts and bowler hats and say what country they're from.
See what I'm saying? xd
Do that with food too. Just find typical foods of a some English speaking countries, like "Plantain - Jamaica" and "Apple Pie - America" Then bring the food to them and have them eat it so maybe it will stick in their mind longer.
