With lions, my opinion usually depends on the individual. I like the females. They tend to be very organized in their prides, and I've seen stories of many with startling devotion to their offspring (or others'). I'm not usually a huge fan of the males, though I must admit they are very breathtaking in appearance. The whole "kill the cubs when they take over a pride to bring the females back into estrus" kind of creeps me out, and I've seen males attack and kill females for no apparant reason before. neutral But, far be it from me to question the ways of nature.
Lions, though, aren't the bloothirsty attackign animals often associated with them. When around them in the wild, if they're not hunting you, obviously, there is a certain comfort zone they keep with strange animals like people. Keep out of the zone, and you should be okay. The problems arise when people get too close.

I agree have you ever seen that specail on animal planet? sadly I forgot what it was called but I think it was Into the Pride where that dude spent weeks trying to become part of the pride? He got so close that even some of the cubs were interested I would like to do that but then again I wouldn't. stare

Pride is the perfect description of a group of lions. The way they carry themselves, full of dignity and confidence, is so adorable and a bit intimidating. I have this cat that everyone describes as lion like. Just the way she promenades around like she's queen or something, I love it. Lions are very interesting creatures for sure, I would love to see them in the wild if I ever travel their way.

No, I don't think I've seen that special....well, maybe part of it. I can't remember....the name's familiar.
There was an interesting show on once about a man who studied the body language of lions when he was walking around near them and was eventually able to get about 50 feet away without them coming up to him. He figured out that, when they didn't consider him a threat, they stayed laying down. If he started edging too close, the more dominant females and the male would start sitting up, keeping themselves alert in case somethign happened. It was very interesting.

I love shows like that the bonds between man and beast getting stronger! I would like to work at a job with animals when I get older especially lions!!
