The compound was the most peaceful place Harve had ever called home, and in the weeks following the introduction to his hovering green blob, he found himself here more and more. The weather had been beautiful nearly every day, but Harve barely noticed, choosing to spend most of his time indoors.

That was where he was today, in his ground floor room, the door and windows propped open in the hopes of generating some sort of breeze. The blue man stood a good ten feet away from a remarkably small television, pointing a gray plastic gun at the screen and picking off pixel duck after pixel duck with astonishing accuracy. It was one of the only things Harve was good at, and he worked hard to remain so. He was almost as good with a real gun as he was with the plastic one, although the recoil still occasionally caught him by surprise.

Ahneta stepped into the apartment, not bothering to knock - the door was open, after all. Why bother to knock when there was such an obvious invitation? Or perhaps it wasn't, but she didn't really care; it was more entertaining this way.

"Harve, I believe?"

She recognized the man, but couldn't remember his surname. Ah well, it didn't matter anyway.

Once more, the female mage was dressed in a way most would call 'scandalous', yet she merely called 'comfortable'. Especially in this weather.

She crossed her arms beneath her chest, observing the man with a faint smirk on her face.

Harve started slightly at the woman's voice, missing a duck in the process. He reached for the controller by his foot and paused his game. In his opinion, she was certainly entitled to enter his home here any time she wanted, seeing as how she was one of the three who had provided it, he just wished she would have knocked first.

"Oh, hey," he said. "Harve, yeah." It was the shady mage, and she was wearing... barely anything at all. Well, that was interesting. "Ahneta," he said, inclining his head in silent greeting, the unspoken 'what do you want?' fairly clear in his tone.

"You will come with me."

Ahneta's voice brooked no argument, and she only waited a few brief moments before turning and stepping out the door. She did pause then, however, and peeked her head back in.

Resting her hand on the doorframe, she explained more fully, her tone amused.

"Your child is being born."

Nothing like dropping a bombshell with no prior notice.

Harve opened his mouth to ask Ahneta why he needed to go anywhere, but then she was gone and he was left with a million more questions. Curiosity won out, and by the time she stuck her head back inside, Harve was halfway across the room, hands in pockets.

"W... what?" He hurried to close the remaining distance between the mage and himself. "Well..." Why didn't you tell me that in the first place? seemed a bit rude, especially when he still wasn't sure what sorts of powers the woman had at her disposal. Instead he said, "I'm ready," shoving his hands deeper into his pockets and hunching slightly. Kids were small, and he was... not. He wouldn't want to scare this new child any more than was inevitable.

Ahneta chuckled at the man, and left as he gave his assent. She really should ask Dacian to let her do this more often...for some reason, he didn't like having her work directly with the guardians.

Maybe it was because she delighted in tormenting them?

Naaah.

Content that he was following, she began to head towards the labs.

"Any questions?"

Surprisingly, Harve did have a question for a change. "Is this kid going to be a baby baby, or just a kid of some sort?" Harve had never actually taken care of an infant, and the thought that he might be trusted with something that did nothing more than poop, cry and eat didn't seem like a wise one. He hadn't given the notion much of his time before, but it seemed the sudden arrival of his odd hourglass child had awakened a whole new set of needless questions.

He looked around as they made their way toward the labs. The last time he had been anywhere near the building was when he had first stopped by to view the floating ball of green light. He almost asked if she knew whether it was a boy or a girl, but decided it didn't matter much. He would find out in a couple of minutes anyway.

"They grow more quickly then real children, but they start out as something similar to toddlers; most of them can't exactly form full sentences at first."

And some barely spoke any words at all. They all started out as seeming like young toddlers, but it was always a relief when they grew so much more quickly then their Gaian counterparts.

Ahneta, on the other hand, wished they would all remain toddlers forever. Then she wouldn't have to teach the little buggers...

Which reminded her: she needed to set up the schedule for that. When it was just Ismet, she could give him the occasional lesson here or there; but with more children, she'd need to actually set up 'classes'.

Eventually.

They entered the labs, and began heading downwards.

Harve nodded, picking up speed as they headed inside the labs. A toddler he could handle, at least he thought he could. Story time, trips to the zoo, an actual excuse to play video games? Excellent. He looked around for something he recognized from the first time he had been down here, but nothing seemed familiar. Were they there yet?

After what seemed like an unusually long time (had Ahneta led them down a different path to take longer, just to make Harve nervous? Never!), they finally reached the door. She paused for a moment, scanning Harve - but seeing that he had no further questions, she opened the door.

The room was the same room as Harve had visited the energy in before. It all looked exactly the same...except that the ball of energy was fluctuating, rings of energy darting out and then re-entering. And then, it seemed to implode in an explosion of light.

Once they could see again, a small child was sitting in the center of the room: Nadia.

When they reached the room, Harve let out a sigh of relief. It was about time. He managed to school his face into a pleasant expression instead of a dirty look as Ahneta glanced at him.

When the door opened, Harve squinted at the bright, pulsating light emanating from his future child. He took a few steps toward it and held a hand in front of his face, shielding his eyes right before the... implosion?

Harve blinked rapidly as the light faded and his eyes adjusted to the now-darker room. There was a third person here now, a little girl. Harve couldn't help himself. He smiled faintly and held up his hand in a wave. The girl's eyes remained wide, but she waved back. Cute.

"Mew," she said softly, the single syllable less like a word than just a random sound.

"I think I'd like to name her Nadia," Harve muttered, almost to himself. "Do you like that?" He continued to address the child even though it was fairly obvious she didn't understand him. Harve had been thinking about names a lot recently, and had decided on Nadia for a girl and Harvard Junior for a boy. Had the child known, she might have had a reason to find comfort in the fact that she was female rather than being caught up in the nervous exhaustion and slight discomfort she did feel. She stuck a fist in her mouth, absently gnawing on her knuckles.

The toddler didn't fight as Harve leaned over and lifted her into his arms. He turned to Ahneta. "Um, thanks?"

curled her lips and offered a nod in response to Harve's thanks; it was her job. And it had been fun to annoy the man, anyway, so it wasn't like she minded.

"You'll need to bring her back to the labs at some point for a DNA test - I don't know how to use the equipment for that."

Liar.

She was just too lazy to want to bother with it, at the time.

"Dacian or Hadrian can take care of it."
