Freedom. Finally.

Well, not exactly. There was still a mate at home, wanting him to be with her constantly because they had a family now. But it didn't make sense. None of the three children were home. Save except Tahlia...but she even still went off on her own during the day.

So why did Bairn feel so tied down? And, wouldn't he like this? Before, he dreamed of this. He wanted his family to be together. Of course, he still wanted his family to be together.

He just wanted to roam free. So the opportunity came this morning and he took it. With pleasure.

Staring down into the waters reflection of himself, the tall....dark and handsome old stallion looked back on his life. It had been a while since he laid eyes on someone that wasn't apart of his family. Perhaps it was that time again. To be snarky and sarcastic. To be the Bairn he hated to show his children.

Ah, but he was so OLD! And that was so long ago! Did he still have what it took inside of him to be that same young strikingly handsome stallion?

"Hmm!" Bairn snorted. Of course! Simple three kids were going to stop him. And certainly not Astia either.

He was out on his own, family no where in sight! Grinning, he puffed out his chest.

It was about time to bring out his old self. Make an innocent Bliss like character cry.

Ah, the good old days.

To HELL with them all!

Frustrated and angry, Dia waddled her way closer to the stream she so desperately desired water from. It had been a hard day... each day, her stomach was growing larger and larger, her beautiful slim ivory figure was now growing more and more grotesque, and she could do nothing to stop it.

She hated him. HATED HATED HATED HATED him. And it was all his fault... damn him and those little bastards crawling inside of her. She didn't want them, but what could she do?

Noticing a nearby tree on the way to the stream, Dia took a running aim for it, and crashed her side against the firm trunk. Pain shot through her side, and her eyes watered up from the pain. She'd get rid of them... she'd become the old Dia she once was. And then she'd show Plague. She'd pay him back for what he did to her...

Something not to far off in the distance broke the perfect silence of the day.

A loud thud actually, was what brought the stallion out of his thoughts. He perked up, ready for some type of action and frantically looked around.

But no one was in sight. But a large tree that stuck out amongst everything else caught his eye. From where he was standing, Bairn could only see a pink tail. Ah, that had to be were the thud came from.

Why the heck would someone actually run into a tree? Was in an accident? Bairn laughed to himself, picturing Bliss running up to see him and accidently running into a tree. Something about that mental image made the stallion happy and he actually longed to see his old friend. Some familiar face...or strange. It didn't matter. Just someone.

So, curious and hopeful that the thudder would indeed be Bliss...Bairn trotted over there with a sarcastic voice, "You smack that tree any harder and you'll knock it over Bl-!"

He was cut short of the sight in front of him. A pink female Kalona. But not just anyone. Someone very...special. It had been a while since he saw her, but the stallion never forgot someone like that.

You couldn't just ever forgot someone who wore candy as a decoration. "My, my, my. It's been a while."

She panted, her breath coming short to her as she leaned against the tree. There must be some way to get rid of these nasty little creatures before they came out.

Her concentration on her task at hand fully absorbed her focus, and she failed to notice the stallion who had been watching her until he spoke up.

Jerking her head around, she glared at the creature who would dare interrupt her, only to meet the gaze of a very familiar face.

"What do you want?" she hissed, glaring as she straightened herself up from against the tree, "Cant you see I'm busy?!"

Ah, so she didn't see him at first, did she?

Well, of course Bairn too didn't notice the fact that the Kalona's belly was bigger and that the tree smashing was on purpose.

It wasn't until Diabetia spoke did the stallion even take a good look at her. "Busy doing wha-?"

What!? Dark brown eyes instantly tore to her belly and he stared, half amused...half frightened. Was she...? No, she wasn't! Obviously, that belly wasn't fat...it was little ones growing inside her. He knew that from experience with Artemis's belly and Astia's belly. There was a different shape to fat and pregnant.

Dia had the pregnant shape for sure.

But was she smashing her stomach against the tree? Trying to kill her-!?! Bairn shook his head and swayed his large body to push her own out of the way of the tree.

His voice got protective and caring at the same time. "What ARE you DOING? Dia! That's...that's...murder! Not like that matters to you anyways, but...WHY? Did you...? Are you...?"

Bairn stood there, staring at her with amazement. He almost wanted to laugh at the fact that she was going to be a mother. Or rather, hopefully going to be a mother if she didn't already kill the little ones. "Diabetia. Stop. Just stop and let's talk."

His voice was calm, and hopeful helpful. In a way he was completely curious as to how that happened. But most of all he didn't want to see her destroy such a beautiful treat.

Or to her was it a nightmare...?

Her glaring grew even more intense as she watched his eyes fall upon her large bulge of a stomach. She had attempted to move to the side, hoping to hide most of its bulk, but to no use. There was just no way to hide such a horrible round... fattness.

She grunted and shoved her way past Bairn as he attempted some silly move to try to get between her and the tree. She didn't need this now... she didn't want some do-gooder horse to spout off about families and goodness and all that crap.

When he started yelling, she jerked her head around and shot him a dirty look. "Why don't you listen to yourself? You just said it didn't matter to me, so what's the problem here? It's nothing more than a nuisance... being like this. It's horrible, and pointless. I was never meant to have children, and I'll make that statement fact before it can be proved elsewise."

Bairn stood his ground, and yet again attempted to move her away from the tree. There was just no way he was going to let that continue. Abandonment, sure, the stallion could see that happening. But murder? No. Especially not when the ones getting...killed were yet to be born.

The dirty look she gave him only made Bairn want to yell at her some more. He knew it probably wouldn't do any good, but hopefully one or two of the words he said would do something. "But they're yours, Diabetia." He started, trying to gather the perfect words. He had to stop this.

"Yours. When I say that I mean it. My three children are adults now. They're off on their own doing whatever they want...but they're mine. I raised them the way I wanted too. You could do the same for yours. Raising them to be blood thirsty evil monsters. The world always needs more of those anyways. Murder isn't the answer when the ones you're killing are so close to you. Literally, not figuratively. What if loosing them hurt you? Would that be worth it?"

Bairn paused. Ah, he knew she wouldn't take to his words very well. So perhaps taking the path he thought of earlier would help.

"I've got an idea. What if you gave birth to them...put them in their baskets and then left them for good? You wouldn't be their mother anymore. Some other idiot would come along and take them in. Never even laying eyes on you." Granted, the tanned stallion didn't actually want this to happen but if it prevented her from murder than whatever it took, he'd say.

Bairn didn't even want to think of who the father was. Probably someone not with Dia. Probably someone not worth the title of 'Daddy'. Of course, Bairn didn't know the truth. The horrible truth and...terror of these unborn children.

Could things get any worse?

First, she had to deal with him and his taunting. She showed him, and now she was bound to be repaid for her attack. Then, running into that atrocious mare who had stolen her colors only to have it pointed out to her just how pregnant she really was. And now, Bairn. Good old 'let's make the world a better place' Bairn. This was definitely turning into a nightmare of an afternoon.

She gave him a warning snap of her fangs, to ensure he wouldn't get any closer. "You obviously don't know me very well Bairn. As I explained before when we last met, I never intended to have children, and I still don't. I'd devour the little nuisances before even THINKING about caring for them. Caring is for creatures like you, not me."

To emphasize her point, she pulled back one of her front hooves and hit it hard against her own belly. The pain was immediate, and she winced at the sharpness of it that covered her entire body. So... maybe she wasn't going to do something like that again. As much as she hated the little bastards residing inside of her, Dia herself was still her number one priority. And hurting herself wouldn't help herself in the end, especially not if Plague should return to repay the favor of her earlier actions.

"Why do you even care anyways," She managed to mutter, in between attempts to control and absorb the pain she caused herself. She could feel them... there had to be two, maybe three of them in there. Squirming around frantically, wondering what was going on in the outside world, why their shelter and home was being attacked yet again. How was it that she never noticed it before now?

With Bairn around? It was like having a stubborn foal constantly nagging at your feet. Things were usually worse with him around.

Her fangs made the tanned stallion back off, he wasn't ready to get attacked just yet. And he knew if he played his cards right, Diabetia would listen to him. Just like last time.

"Obviously you were supposed too, dear...if they came. When one gets pregnant, it's for a reason. You know, so many mares around these parts keep trying but are never blessed. But the gods gave that to you. So it was supposed to happen for some twisted reason."

The stallion blinked. What was she talking about? "You don't have to care about them, Dia. Just deal with them until it's time and then dump them off in the forest or something. And who says you can't care? I'll tell you there are a lot of Kalona's out there that love their children. So you're the odd one."

Dark brown eyes watched in horror as she kicked her side. "Dia don't!" He yelled, staring. There was nothing he could do with actions that would get her to stop-if he got involved he'd probably end up getting kicked. So Bairn stuck with words. "If it hurts you, it probably hurts them ten times more."

He knew she probably wouldn't care about the pain she caused her little ones. But at least perhaps she would be able to imagine how horrid it hurt when they got kicked.

Why did he care? Her question came to him, making Bairn think. "Because, Diabetia...those foals may not be innocent as a normal foal, but they're still vulnerable. You cannot kill someone at such a young age. And just think about it, you're going to be a mother."

He grinned. Just thinking about those words. 'Mother' or 'Father' usually made every soquili squeel. "Let me ask you something. Have they kicked back, at all? Can you feel them?"

"Love? What's that?" She snorted and shook her head, frustrated, "I don't think you quite understand, Bairn. Emotions, I understand. Emotions, I get. Love, on the other hand... it doesn't make any sense. You put others lives before your own? Why... that's just stupidity at its greatest. Why in the hell would you neglect your own needs to benefits others before yourself?"

At this point, her pink striped legs were walking themselves in a pace, back and forth, as she attempted to get her head in order. It was clear that she was pregnant, with no doubt in her mind at this point. But for how far along was she? The jerks and rumble in her stomach she had thought was due to the abuse and indigestion caused by him....had they really been foals forming in her womb? And in that case... shouldn't she be fairly close to the end of her pregnancy, should she really start to feel the kicking and restlessness?

"Pregnancy, I understand. I know how it happens, and I know why it happens. Reproduction; the only reason ANY true kalona would mate. This foolish love nonsense you spout off about all the time has nothing to do with it. Perhaps with your race, but not in mine. Mine, we understand the need for reproduction, to keep our bloodlines strong and eternal."

Pausing, she raised her head, pink and purple curls falling down from her neck. "Myself, on the other hand... I see things differently. I may be odd, a rather insulting term to use, I might add, but with just cause, of course. To think of another creature out there... stealing my beauty and my looks... why, it's preposterous! And to think I'll have to be the one to suffer so THEY can be beautiful? How wretched! And no, just abandoning them wouldn't do the trick. Why, they might actually survive and who knows... they could even grow up to act like horses as yourself! That's all I need to hear... a spawn of mine stealing my beauty and going around all goody-do-gooder spouting off about families and love. Makes me sick."

In truth, she was feeling nauseous, but more so probably due to the impending motherhood than anything else, so she did her best to ignore the feelings as she stared down the stallion.

"Love is an emotion, obviously my dear. Something that most think they feel, but have no idea what is truly is. No one does. Except those who apprechiate the true meaning of it." Bairn rather said his words in snarky way, as if to tease Diabetia. She had no idea, and for that it was rather fun. "Some love doesn't require you to put others before yourself. Some love just requires you to be there for the other when they need it. And perhaps, if I can speak for myself, those idiots you speak of would rather see their loved ones happy. You know, dying isn't all that bad, where one would normally go is actually quite appealing."

The tanned stallion laughed at himself, trying to keep the mood rather fun. If the Kalona took his words seriously, it might hint that he wanted to die, which was no where near the truth...he didn't want to end his life but he'd definitely do so for Astia or his children.

Dark brown eyes watched the Kalona deep in thought about something. She wasn't pleased, by the way she moved-she wasn't pleased. At all, with everything...perhaps. In a way, Bairn could find himself agreeing with her, there was a time when Astia was pregnant when he wasn't pleased.

"You can never say that, Dia. Kalona's can love eachother, if it's an emotion they let themselves aquire. To you, maybe not. But there are some of your race that care. I know, remember. Windflame Bloodrider? That 'trader' of a Kalona? He cares. He told me so." The stallion kept himself at a distance from her, pregnant mares alone were not fun. But pregnant Kalona mares, nonetheless, Diabetia? Defiintely not fun.

Ha! Her next comment actually made him laugh at her, not himself. She was just talking nonsense now. Not to her, of course, but to any smart soquili, it was all just...words. "Steal your beauty? Your children won't steal your beauty, they'll look somewhat like you but you'll always be the pretty little Kalona you've always been. I'm still handsome, and I have three of my own." A small joke was placed in his serious words, to again, keep the mood light. He didn't want to piss her off.

"Trust me, dearest...if your children grow up to be, as you say, horses like myself I'd laugh. If you're anything to go by, then no matter how badly the adoptive parents try, they'll always have a hint of pure evil in them." He watched her eyes stare at him, he was getting to close to the line. Probably push her over anytime soon, too. Hmm, not goood. But he had to stop her from a murder. And perhaps get to her like (yea right) her children.
