He was on the scent, nose nearly pressed against the ground as he followed the trail, paws lightly stepping over rocks and twigs, and just avoiding sticky puddles that formed from the past night's rain. Bobbing behind him with his movements was his tail, held at a level height, though raising triumphantly whenever he scented a particularly rich spot, like now. Skule raised his head slightly, ears twitching at bird chirps and the wind as it brushed the leaves overhead, green eyes peering harshly through the trees as he searched.

What was it? Prey? Another wolf? A strange-smelling cave? It was something new, different, that's for sure. The gray male had never smelled this thing before, and curiousity was certainly having its fun as he plunged onward through the sparse edge of a forest, very absorbed in his search for... well, whatever it was.

User ImageSzálka was laying at the foot of a tree, coiled over some large uprooted roots. She was lazily digging her claws into the think, dark roots, occassionally chewying on the root if she couldn't rip it open with her claws. This wolf had an air to her. She seemed in a daze, as of staring offf into space with a glossy look to her eyes. She let out a sigh, and if anyone heard it, they would be intreged. Her sigh, gave hint to a whimsical, airy voice, and her eyes, even glossed now, made her look jsut as whimsical as she sounded.

Her front paws, dipped in the teal that graces her murkey grey fur, in stripes, retracted from their bashing away at the helpless roots as she rolled onto her back and gazed up through the branches. Her maw opened slightly and a soft melody escaped in an odd tongue, some ancient wolven language. Her topaz eyes were growing less glossed over, yet more murkey, as if sight was lost to her, she appeared once more, in a trance like state as her melody raged on in sweet jumbles of lovely notes.

The male's ears strained forward and he crouched low at the melodies, faint and indistinct at first, though growing louder and more fluid as he came closer, dark nose pulling him closer to Szálka as she sang. The skull-marked head appeared through the brush, seemingly mystified as he forgot all caution and normal secrecy of the stalking predator - he was most definately intrigued.

The words, the inflections, the strange syllables, they were faintly nostalgic, and he found that his own deep green eyes were slightly misty, the edges of his vision blurred as he padded slowly around the tree. The spiraling roots of the ancient tree massed into one big brown sploth of color mixed with teal in odd places - mainly to one side, as it was actually what he could see of her tail from behind the tree -, and it seemed to shift and sway. Skule's mind was playing intricate games with him, but he barely noticed, and was quite convinced that the sound came from the blob he sensed to be a tree, rather than any animal.

The gray wolf took up a low growl, the deep sound resonating through his chest, almost in tune with the song, and he never noticed the female lounging just in front of him, on the other side of the tree.

The song grew quieter as Szálka heard a low growl and realized someone was here. She gazed around from her side of the tree, wondering what was here, or if she was hearing things again. It wouldn't be the first time though... The female continued her melody, only stopped singing, but hummed out the rest of the little tune, looping and jumping about, running up and down the musical notes she emmited. Before long she came to realize the creature must have been behind her, on the other side of the tree!

Szálka swiftly pulled herself onto her delicate looking paws as she hugged the side of the tree with her side, and tail, and curled around the trunk, topaz orbs glinting as she turned and spotted the grey male witht he dark skull mark on his face. She hummed softly and watched him carefully. He didn't look dangerous, but he very well could have been, most wolves who heard her songs fell into her trance like state and became almost useless. She slowly got quieter and quieter until she was barely a whisper, then the song ended with a resonating low note, [well, low for a female.]

It was strange, the song. It had him seeing images, things that he confused for dreams, illusions... he was unsure of what was real and what wasn't. Talking a wary step forward, his growl intensified until his lips pulled back and over gleaming fangs. The noise was guttural, throaty, and all at once threatening, as if he wanted the music to stop - though he didn't. Skule's head was clear, clearer than it had been for days, and he found peace and yet, odd unrest in his self.

Then it stopped - the sweet melodies no longer flowed into his ears, and they twitched lightly, seeming to be sad at the sudden absence of the notes. Green eyes grew brighter, clearer, and the gray male blinked several times, mouth slackening as he was temporarily disoriented. The snarling dropped into a low growl, then heavy breathing before he finally quieted, and his gaze fell upon the gray and teal she-wolf around the tree.

Eyeing her cautiously, his tail raised a touch, muscles in his hinds and back tensing. A marked brow furrowed as he looked at her, then to the surroundings, wondering what had just happened.

"The music...," he muttered, eyes rising into the tree's canopy. "Did you hear it?"

A smile graced her maw as a small giggle escaped her throat. She then nodded her head yes, before she spoke. "Oh yes, you see, I sang it..." Her voice was light and airy, as if she was daydreaming even though her topaz eyes were focused on the male before her. She slowly stepped down the roots, as if they were steps, and jumped down the last root and stood infront of Skule. Her smile widened as she stared deep into his eyes, as if penitrating his soul.

"Your kinship is familiar... what is your pack?" She asked whimsically, sounding remotely like one of those fortune tekkers after they had stared at your palm for a while and looked as though she had found somethign important. This wolves aura oozed mysterious energy, her whole persona was mysterious and whimsical. Luckily Szálka wasn't on one of her tangants yet, when she went on those "mystic rants" as her father use to call them, she sometimes went into a trance and used large, difficult words and blathered on and on about mytical pressences and the gods.

Skule tilted his head, green eyes growing quiet wide. "Sang it? You?" She was odd, he thought, and he stood his ground at the urge to turn back as she came forward. Those brilliant topaz eyes were not readily admired, as he had turned his gaze warily - he didn't like being looked at by someone who sang such a ... mesmerizing song. It urked him, and he sniffled lightly at her question.

"I am a member of the Bones pack, under Alpha Irons." Gray-hued tail raised slightly as he decreed, having set a triumphant tone in his words as she looked on. Familiar, eh? He supposed she was also, as now that she was this close, known scents mingling in her teal and gray coat wafted through his nostrils. The male was suprised he hadn't recognized the smell, and half-blamed it on the sort of spell that as put on him from the singing.

The female smiled and sat down with the large, coiled roots sitting menicingly behind her as she closed her eyes, sheilding her topaz orbs from view as she gave a melodic sigh and smiled brightly. Szálka's tail flickered curiously behind her back as she slowly lifted ehr lids and stared at the male before her with a look of intrest.

"I am aswell, though I have not been in the pakcs lands since I was small... I left to find myself... I'm not searchinf for our leader... Irons is it now? Hmm... I shall seek him out and request re-entry into the pack..." Her voice was very sing-song like as she spoke, her tail moving with the rhythm of her voice. She lowered her muzzle down to her chest and gazed out at Skule, realizing she knew not his anme, nor had he heard hers. "I'm Szálka, by the way... what is your name?" She asked with a curious smile as she leaned forward, disolving a small bit of distance between hima nd her, but keeping it comfortable.

A dark ear twitched as she moved, bright and aware eyes watching her curiously. She was... different, interesting, at best, though this was all he could deduce with the nonexistant knowledge he had of Szálka. It was almost as if she threw caution to the wind and it really did irk him.

"He runs the pack with an iron paw, they say. And re-entry would be wise - I'm sure he'd welcome you. I can show you the packlands if you wish, for I have but recently been there. It may take some days travel, yet it is my destination as well." It wasn't like it was out of his way. No, it was his home, and he had just gone astray to do a bit of exploring. He wasn't all that familiar with his surroundings, and sought to remedy that.

She didn't seem a threat, and in all the politness he reserved, he answered, "And I am Skule. It is a pleasure to meet one of such melody." He bowed his head slightly, eyes hooded as he regarded her and the strange music she produced. "What is it that you were singing?"

"A song sang by my masters... you see I was once a shamans apprentice... when I return to Irons pack, I hope to claim the title of pack Shaman..." She said with a hazey grin, her eyes growing murkey once more as she stared at Skule, eyes half lided. "That song often allows me to go into trances and sometimes I can see important visions..." She continued in a soft voice, as if it was some interesting secret.

Szálka then giggled and stood, thinking about his invitation. She walked until she stood a few feet from his side and turned to eye him again, topaz eyes fully open and alert again. "I suppose I could follow you, if you do not mind... I will not be much of a burden... and if you like, I can sing for you at night, to help you sleep more sound?" She offered. Szálka had heard from many that she was odd, and found it no bother that she assumed this wolf felt she was strange.

A shaman? She just gets stranger and stranger... he thought, inclining his head as she further explained. "Trances? Visions? There are strange forces in this world... I'm sure Irons will grant you the position, as you will most likely prove to be useful with such a trait." He smiled politely, looking around them for the quickest path to the packlands. Fortunately for them, it wasn't too far from this patch of woods.

"Singing will not be necessary," he stated quickly, bluntly - Skule did not want anyone having that much control over him. "But I will take you. Have no worries of that. How soon would you like to set off, Szálka?" He queried, judging the light from the sun that it was around noon.

"We could go now, if you wish... and if we spot any game on the way, perhaps we can go after it... I haven't eaten in a few days... fasting is such a hard thing to do you know..." She said calmly, almost trance like as she turned to him and waited for him to lead the way. She had already decided that as soon as they got close, Szálka would go off on her own and explore the border of the territory, to see how well this new, "Irons" alpha was doing.

It was a funny thing to think about. The last time she was in the packlands, she was the princess shaman. Daughter of the alpha. Her brother the one who would be likely to overthrow him, but Szálka's visions told her her brother was defeated. She inwardly shook her head. Her family was a bunch of fools who were jsut a little too closely related...

"Gladly. The sooner we get to the borders, the sooner you can be admitted." He looked breifly at her as she mentioned fasting - it would've been normal if she hadn't had such strange tendencies. He wasn't even sure if they were talking about the same thing! Maybe... fasting to a shaman was more involved than to a regular citizen. In any case, he definately didn't like the idea of starving himself any longer, and nodded as she turned. "And I'm sure we'll find something, even if its small, on the way."

He was never really concerned with the wellbeing of the former pack, the one overthrown by Irons. He had been very disconnected, and was even considered sheltered by his, now deceased, parents. He was a proud wolf, polite, and generally faithful to his duties. And now, as a warrior of Irons, he sought to bring himself about and prove himself among the ranks of the new pack, through courage and power.

And so, Skule led the way, trying his best to find the best path to skirt the forest so that they came up towards the pack's flank.

"So tell me... what is Irons like now... I remember him when we were both young... but I doubt he is the same... considering no one opposes him now that he's killed the opposition, and made himself Alpha.." Szálka asked in a curious tone, her eyes growing clear once more as her tail was held high. She had pittied Irons when they were pups, her father and brothers had called him horrid things and even threatened to banish him because of his weak father, and insaine mother. Szálka had to admit she too joined in on the teasing, but only when her brotehrs told her too. It had felt wrong, because even at a young age, Szálka could tell Irons had an important future.

"Some say he is still seething in anger and revenge, doomed to take us to our fall as he did to opposing pack. Others say he will lead us to a better future, where we can prove ourselves and warriors under his mighty battle song..." The male trailed off, seeming to be off in his own world at the descriptions. Shaking his head a touch, he pressed on, moving a bit faster through the natural winding paths of forest. "He is called fair, clever, strong, and resourceful. A few have also said he is maddened and favors nothing more than a good blood-letting... a horrid beast, cruel and obstructive..." He took this oppurtunity to look sharply upon the female shaman-to-be, tone grave and almost a warning. "They are dead now."

Skule had been growing into his teen years at the time the others played through puphood, and so being a bit older than the few new warriors, had some right in saying these things. He had seen the horrors of mutiny, saw his parents killed for their opinions, and had been taken in as a sort of hostage along with a few others. The gray male was indifferent to these events, and only went along with the show to perserve the memory of the pack, and enjoy the sensations of just living. Truly an oddball.

Though as of late, he was becoming increasingly more approving of cruelity... what would this pack make of him?

At any rate, he'd probably make a good story-teller one day, if he lived that long.
