Where is that boy? Sukari wondered irritably. All of her other offspring were accounted for, all but little Fenris. As strange as it was, she loved the little thing dearly... She wasn't entirely sure she would. However, she was happy to care for the little guy. He would be a strong and fast... lion-mix in the future, she could tell. He was too soft though... and too curious! He'd never be a big ruler with the hideous amounts of compassion he carried along with him. Sukari'd be able to help with that.

"Fenris!" She finally called, hoping that it would hurry him along.

Ryega grumbled as he laid sprawled in the grass. He had been that way for a while, staring up at the sky through the shade of the acacia, smelling the clouds move in case of rain as the sunlight danced it's warmth upon him. He sighed and "looked" around with a glance.

"He wanted to spend some time with me today and he's not even here... brat can't seem to keep to his word..."

Ryega yawned as he scratched his chest. Ryega was growing more and more as the days pressed on. He was getting bigger, taller, stronger, and his voice was being strange. He could "see" where he was going better and just better off. However, he was still annoyed by that shrilled voice of Sukari's... speaking of which just called out to her son and his friend. Another sigh passed his lips as he moved himself into sitting-positon. Now where are you... Ryega sniffed into the air trying to pick at Fen's scent, but to not much avail. The place was in a mix of scents, it was hard to find just one.

Fenris did come barreling over the hill, headed for Ryega. "Stupid siblings," He muttered as he sprinted. "Keeping me with them all the time." The silioquy was a trait of his overly-angry mother. Little did he know that she was beginning to get to her, even when with all of his being he didn't want to turn out like her.

On top of it all, she'd been treating him very oddly lately. She'd sing him to sleep with Lullabies like, "The world is yours" (A fairly graphic tune about dominating all of existance) or "Strength" (Another graphic song about fighting and war.) He liked to tune them out, but always was upset with himself when he caught himself humming the tune.

He had just crested the hill when his mother's cry reached his ear. He snarled a bit, upset that he hadn't made it in time.

"Ryega," He said fairly quietly. He knew it was loud enough for the dog to hear, though.

She prowled near the den, too lazy to actually go out into the savannah to look for the cheeton. She decided the other, closer siblings should get a meal first, then, if he was going to be out.

"Mbura! Kivu! Takeshi!" She called. One last time, why not? "FENRIS!"

Ryega shuffled a bit as he got up, stretching out his back. He was not really up to arguing with that wretch. His ears picked up upon Fenris' light steps, he did need to call to him but he picked that up as well. His tail flicked left twice as a signal that he knew he was there. His head jerked toward the den and then back up at Fenris.

"Fen, time to head home. Come on, quick before your stupid git gets mad at you," he called out before grumbling in a low whisper. "More imporantly me..."

He took the time to walk up to Fenris and sighed.

"Best shut your mother up about scolding either of us. Just give me commands as we walk back. Hopefully she won't say anything. Now, lets go."

Ryega put a paw on the back of Fenris' neck and pushed a bit. It was time to go back... "home" to the den.

Fenris laughed at his mom being called a stupid git. He didn't know exactly why he thought it was funny. Deep down, he loved his mother, but up at the surface he was starting to dislike her more and more with each passing day.

"Sounds like a great plan!" the cub said, trotting alongside. "Uh... Walk slower!" He commanded. He was happy to know that Ryega wouldn't think he was doing this for real. "Put your tail lower! Put your ears down!" He really couldn't think of better commands... He hoped they'd be good enough.

Sukari waited for one last minute for her son. It was long enough. There, over a hillcrest came the one sight she had forbidden him to show her. Her cub walking beside the whelp.

"That's it," she growled to herself angrily, taking off at full speed towards the pair, roaring. However, she heard in between growls something that she hoped to see- she'd been waiting for it for far too long. Her little softy-green son was barking out orders to the whelp. He had a powerful look on his face too... She smiled. Perhaps there was hope for an empire for her offspring after all. This pride they were joining would only be the start- then she'd free the children and leave the pride herself, then they'd begin conquering other prides. There was to be an alliance between the pride she was joining and the pride of her sons, and this was the start of it all!

A toothy grin crossed her face as she slowly approached the pair.

Ryega sighed and shook his head.

"Those were the most pathetic commands I have heard, Fen. Honestly, can't you do-"

It was when he smelt Sukari's scent get a tad bit stronger did he do what Fenris said. He hunched over, walked in a sort of crouch, tail tucked slightly, and ears down. What was weirder was because of Ryega's height and age, he was taller than Fenris. Just looked odd. He walked along and kept his eyes to the ground, but still grinned.

He glanced slightly up at Fenris and grinned.

("Cutting it close?")

"Very," he said almost inaudiably. Ryega had better hearing than mom did, so he knew the statement was safe to say. "Hello mother!" Fenris said, starting out cheerily, then remembering that he had to act gloomy like mom always did. Right-gloomy and dark. He pulled on the attitude, though it had its flaws, such as the smile on his face. "I was just telling "the whelp" what to do, just like you do!" He said, trying to act proud. He felt horrible deep down for doing it, even though the act was saving both their hides- and working. He smiled a big lion-like smile.

Sukari smiled down at her son. Yes... there's hope for him yet. I'll have to think up new lullabies for him, she thought. Obviously it had been these that worked. "If he ever disobeys you, beat him up. Beat him bad," She said as if Ryega wasn't even there. "And if he ever hurts you, call, and it'll be the end of him." She said darkly, her eyes twinkling. She knew that simply these words would piss the whelp off- just as she wanted.

Ryega grinned and reached out towards Fenris. He smirked and eyes the cub. He patted Fenris' side, enough to hear the thuds.

"Fenris... since I do not eat with your family. May I go out to the border and patrol while you all eat that delicious food safely while I starve out here with the mere occasional rabbit?"

It was an obvious ploy to get himself out of there before Sukari got any idea. On what to do with him. She was too proud of Fenris to hurt him but he wasn't as lucky. He looked up at Sukari and sighed.

"You best get back to the family before they head out again. They won't sit still long, even for food."

Fenris was hurt by his mothers words. It had been like she had said them about him, too. Poor Ryega... It was now that he made up his mind 100% that he needed to help get Ryega out, but only when the time was right. Mom still checked up on him often, peering out over the horizon in search of the red pelt. They'd have to wait until she stopped that, and trusted he was here... Or better yet, trusted Fen to be watching for her.

He was hurt even more by Ryega's words. The truth in them was unbearable. He felt his eyes getting salty, but then pulled it back. He couldn't show sadness over this now. But Fenris picked up on the idea. "Yeah, you can go," he said, coldly. "Beat it!" He hollered. He was glad this was not how he truly was.

"Heh," Sukari said quietly. "Come, sweet prince," she said to her Fenris, "It's time you ate the best meat of the beast. You deserve it." She walked off towards the den with her son at her heals. Fenris gave a quick glance back to Ryega, and said an almost silent "Bye," knowing his good friend would catch it, and his mother would not.

Ryega smirked with a slight scoff.

"Gullible fools... so easy to play with and yet so oblivious to the truth. Oh well, ignorance is bliss."

The red dog shrugged and got to his feet, flagged his tail and perked his ears, stretching out his back. With a soft yawn, he looked back toward the tree that he had been resting under before.

Pfft, watch the border... Should know that I never do that.

Ryega glanced back to the two as they disappeared into the den. Maybe tomorrow he could get some actual alone time with the cub. Hopefully, his mother would too occupied with other things. Smirking, he flicked his tail with every step as he moved back to the tree to rest for the day.
