It was another perfect day for curling up in the greenhouse and soaking up the warmth of the sun and Seveda was taking the opportunity to the fullest. While Kitten grumbled to herself over piles of paper work and did her best to avoid the heat, Seveda had a sketchbook in her lap that she had begged the gary-haired woman for. A pencil was held awkwardly in her hands as she attempted to draw a collection of tulips Kitten had told her to study. Kitten had tried to tell the girl to just draw like she was writing with large, fluid lines so she didn't hold her pencil so strangely, but the teen just didn't seem to understand.

The image on the page didn't much seem like anything special, but if anyone had flicked through the earlier pages they would notice she had improved a bit. As Seveda looked back up at the tulip she'd wrinkle her nose and pick up her spray bottle to re-mist the plant. Kitten warned her about over-watering plants, but Seveda was careful. She didn't want her little friend to get too over-heated on such a hot day.

Alinedra stretched on the lawn and plopped over on her back. Staring up at the sky it couldn't be a more perfect day. Eden was playing in the grass nearby with Gong-Xi, his newly aquired playmate, and work was going well. Looking up at the clouds, she began to daydream and discern shapes from them. Ali could swear the one up and to her right looked an awful lot like a clown with very large feet, but it quickly changed to what then looked like a teddy bear. Laughing, she moved to her side and had her heart stop for a moment. Eden was gone!

Panicking, Alinedra shot up to a sitting position and looked about. Toward the greenhouses, she spotted a bright red spot and noticed it as eden's hair. The little guy had taken off to the greenhouse at full speed. Cursing, Ali threw the blanket they had layed out over her shoulder and took off after him.

For such a small one, he had what Ali could swear was super speed, reaching the greenhouse well before she could even think what he could be up to. She watched as he threw the door open and ran inside. Almost at his heels, and skidding to turn into the door, she came up on Eden giggling with glee, and Observer Kitten with her charge sitting but five feet away. Emberassed but in need of some oxygen, Ali dropped the blanket and put her hands on her hips, trying to unpinch the knot that had developed in her side.

Both Seveda and Kitten looked up when the little red-headed child darted in and both of them simply blinked in mild amusement. Kitten remained silent for the main reason that she didn't want Alinedra to feel rushed into talking while Seveda remained silent simply because it wasn't a situation she felt like she belonged in. Instead of saying anything, Seveda simply lifted a hand to wave in greeting to the two, flashing an extra smile in Eden's direction, before turning back to the tulip infront of her.

Kitten shook her head at the amazingly antisocial responce from her little daydreamer. Typical. Well, not so much. Usually Seveda was all excited about meeting children, but today the girl seemed just completely non-commited to the entire situation.

After a moment Kitten would push aside her papers and lean back in her chair, crossing her arms over her chest. "You've got quite the cute little hellion there miss. I admire your energy." Kitten certainly couldn't handle kids when they were at that age and she sure as hell didn't know how Seveda could actually enjoy it.

Brushing her hair out of her face while holding on to the wriggling Eden, Alinedra smiled back at Kitten. "Hellion would be correct, but cute is beginning to become debatable." Tussling his hair, he suddenly became interested in what Seveda was doting over. Escaping her grasp, he went to the floor and began talking with her in as well a way as any four year old could.

Feeling Eden seemed innocent enough talking with the girl, Ali turned her attentions back to Kitten. "It's not hard to find the energy for it, but i have most definately had no trouble sleeping since i took him in. " Chuckling, she moved a bit into the greenhouse so she could lean on one of the counters. Straightening the clothes that had gotten mussied in her run after Eden, she couldn't help but feel she was being smothered in the summer greenhouse heat.

" How do you stand it in here? It's so hot these days... hard enough being outside sometimes. Let alone in a humid greenhouse." She asked, grabbing the colour of her shirt and fanning her neck with it.

Meanwhile, Eden had jumped to his knees infront of the girl child much like himself. Used to normal adults, he didn't have much knowledge of any others. Pointing at the paper with his stubby little fingers, he asked "What dat?" In his lazy toddler speech Ali so hated to hear. Scooting closer to get a good look at the paper, he squeeled with delight as he made the connection between the tulips on the paper and the tulips in front of the girl.

Seveda offered a warm smile to the boy as he plopped down beside her. "I'm drawing. Do you like to draw?" she asked, flipping a few pages of her sketchbook for the little boy to see. She couldn't help but notice that he smelled as good as the warm summer day outside and she wondered if she herself smelled like the flowers she loved and sketched so often.

After a moment the girl offered the book and her pencil to the boy. "Would you like to try? I'll let you draw in my book if you tell me your name," she grinned. Seveda was just naturally good with children some how. She had the soft voice that a mother used, but it became hard as a rock when she needed to be stern. Of course the voice she used now was simply sweet and airy.

"When I get too over heated I just morph into something that can stand the heat better until after I've cooled off," the woman replied, looking as natural as any woman did when giving a simple explaination. Kitten didn't think it was weird that she could change and she didn't expect others to think it was weird either.

Looking over at Eden, Kitten shook her head with a small frown upon her lips. "I didn't know Seveda as a child, but I think even then she was as cool and collected as she is now. She simply likes to read and learn and stare out of windows. Running about was never really something she'd enjoy." The frown curled into a smile as she talked about her little girl. Even though Kitten was clearly not her real mother and even though Kitten had just admitted she'd only recently come to meet Seveda, Kitten still felt like the girl was her own daughter.

Eden beamed at the girl with his casual smile and told the girl his name. As she handed over the sketching materials, he tried to sit in the same position she was, to get what he assumed was optimum ability. After he'd done that though, and stared at the paper and pencil for a moment, he curled his face into a knot and asked, "what i do?"

In the background, Alinedra continued to fan herself. "I tell you, i sometimes wish i could do something to myself to cool off. I never was one for humidity. I love a dry heat." Having accepted that people in the Vale were different, she couldn't even imagine what Kitten was talking about, but went along with it as to not offend. And she did wish sometimes that she could change forms, it had always been a dream of hers.

Noticing a stool under the counter, she pulled it out and sat on it, seeing how Eden had made himself comfortable. Looking down, she noticed Gong-Xi jumping up behind Eden. How his little familiar had gotten in she had no idea, but it never ceased to amaze her how it always found its way back to Eden. She'd assumed it had been just a normal Grasshopper, but she wondered now if she'd have to change her assumption.

"Seveda does seem nice and peaceful. Perhaps she'll rub off a bit on Eden here. I fear only because if he's like this as child, i can't even imagine when he's a teenager..." Cringing at the thought, the red haired woman brushed the hair out of her eyes. Eden of course had a long way to go before he would grow up. Already he should be older than he was. Part of her research was based around his paused growth due to psychological components. Not that she was anxious to have him grow up and "move out" so to speak, but Ali wasn't entirely sure it was healthy developementaly stuck at an age such as his. Bad habits becoming too engrained and what not.

"So, what are your plans for the day?" She asked, smiling at Kitten. Ali hadn't exactly made any plans past playing outside, and with how well the two young ones were getting along, it might not be a bad idea to socialize for once.

"Eden? What a nice name you have. My name's Seveda," the teen replied sweetly, smiling at the boy as he took the materials and watched him shift into position. She wasn't really sure how to respond to 'what i do' since it seemed to be, in her opinion, a relatively easy thing to figure out how to do. "Well, you hold the pencil and then you just draw whatever you want. You don't have to draw what you see. Just put the pencil on the paper and move it around until it looks like what you want it to look." Clearly Seveda was not made out to be an art teacher.

Kitten nodded slightly as she flipped through a few of her papers, only taking a casual glance up as the woman sat down with her. Certainly she wasn't trying to be rude, but Kitten thought herself rather good at multi-tasking and the moment called for it. Uennie had many things in store for the Vale and Kitten had been appointed to help her with all these things, though the woman hadn't been aware of just how much that entailed. Now she found herself pouring over papers day in and day out. It wasn't that she didn't want the company, in truth she really needed it, but usually the company had to deal with the fact that every now and then Kitten would flip to a new sheet of paper and scribble something down.

As Ali spoke of Eden she turned a bit to get a better look at her charge and the little red-haired boy, smiling as Seveda placed her hand over Eden's in order to help show him how he was supposed to hold the pencil and how to make a piece of wood 'work'. She giggled softly when Seveda looked over at her, but they didn't really need to say anything. "I have no doubt he'll be a wonderful teenager," she said to Ali, unaware of the situation reguarding Eden.

"The rest of the day?" she asked with brows raised. "I...I suppose I was just going to work on all this paper work. It never seems to go away you know," she said, trailing off as she looked at the slowly growing 'finished' stack. Turning back to Ali she smiled, "And what do you and your little boy have planned for the day? I'm sure he's got many things in store for you, hmm?"

Watching Kitten shuffle through her work made Alinedra feel just a little guilty she wasn't off doing her own research, but she shook off the feeling. Eden and Ali were allowed one day a week where no paperwork was involved. It meant she had to do more work the day before and after, but it was worth it for a full day of play and relax time with just each other.

" Oh, we were thinking of having a lunch picnic down by the lake in about an hour. After that, who knows. You're welcome to join us though, i confess i got a little carried away with food." Ali smiled, remembering the basket full of enough food to feed ten men waiting in the cooler of her lab. Half of it Eden's regulated diet food, half of it odds and ends she had placed in there for herself.

In the mean time, Eden was quickly learning what Seveda was teaching him. He now could hold his pencil correctly, and draw shapes that he knew. Throwing a glance back at Ali, he held up the sketchbook and proclaimed loudly, "LOOK! I'm a'artist!" much to the enjoyment of his keeper.

Putting the paper down on his lap again, he turned to the girl sitting beside him. "You like me. Not like Ali." It was a simple sort of statement, one that fit his blunt personality. " But not me? More like Ali." Staring at the girl with large inquisitive eyes, he seemed to scan her for more details, as if something in her face or hair or posture would answer the question for him.

The currently gray-haired woman gave a wide smile at the invitation and nodded. "That's so very kind of you! I confess, I do not often get to make Seveda good, home-made food because of my lack of time, but I know she would simply love to be out on a picnic. I would too, of course. A break from these papers is always a bright moment of my day," she joked, sticking her tongue childishly out at the stack that refused to go down. Realizing suddenly that she had agreed to go on a picnic date with a woman she didn't even know the name to, Kitten promply stick out a welcoming hand. "I'm Researcher Kitten by the way. I was made head of the Darwin Wing a while back but I must say it was a bit more than I thought I could handle if you know what I mean."

The teen, meanwhile, watched the boy as he doodled, smiling and pointing out things here and there with one of those soft but congradulatory voices. "You're a wonderful artist Eden," she cooed sweetly, lifting a hand to ruffle his bright red locks before stopping with a curious expression at his sudden statement about what she was but wasn't. "Ah..." she started before closing her mouth and thinking about it. She felt like she didn't really understand what he was saying and she really wanted to be able to answer it properly.

"Yes. I'm a great deal like you. Kitten is my guardian like Ali is yours," she said, assuming Ali was the woman sitting over to the side with Kitten. "But you're right. We're different in many ways. Like Ali, I'm more grown up than you, but I think I'm still younger than her. I'm what people call a teenager. Also, I don't know what you are," Seveda started, referring to her lack of knowledge of what plant he'd been 'grown' from, "but I don't think you're a tulip like I am."

Alinedra started with shock and embarassment of not having introduced herself. " I'm sorry, tongues gotten away with me today," she chuckled, grasping the woman's hand, " I'm Researcher Alinedra Edens. Newly appointed guardian of Eden down there." And before the woman could say anything, "Yes, i realize our names are pretty much the same. Complete coincidence i can assure you. Though not entirely unfitting." Ali chuckled.

Eden, smile in his eye, shook his head a bit. "Smell," he said to the girl, sticking his read locks nearer to her face. Eden always smelled of apples, and knowing that, hoped the girl would catch on. Just to add to the point, he pulled out a red apple from the folds of his clothes and began to toss it up and down in the air.

While watching it bounce up and down in his hands, he continued to talk, and the what was a green apple slowly became a red apple. " A teen..ager? Will i be one? Or just you?" he asked casually. It seemed Eden had no idea of time and it's passing.
