Kei Kurono is a typical high school student in a selfish world, not caring about anyone other than himself. However when, by chance, he was forced to help out his childhood friend, Katou Masaru, rescue a drunkard who fell into subway tracks, both he and Katou were killed... Or not. After being run over by the train, they were suddenly teleported to an enclosed apartment with others who recently died. And now their lives are controlled by a mysterious black ball inside the apartment called GANTZ, and they are forced to participate in a "game" of unprecedented danger and horror. When highschool student Kurono Kei meets up with his childhood friend Masaru Katou at a subway station, their lives take a drastic turn. They both cooperate to save a homeless man who falls onto the tracks, but get run over by the train in the process. Moments later, they appear in an apartment filled with several other people, and a giant black ball in the center of the room. The black ball lights up and informs them that they are now completely under its control. It tells them to go and kill a certain humanoid creature, then it provides them with an arsenal of futuristic weapons, armor, and equipment; and teleports them outside the apartment to a certain alleyway in Tokyo. The people are soon forced to fight for their lives against the creature, each other, and an unexpected visitor. Those who survive are allowed to go free, but they soon discover that it will not be so easy, as the black ball still has control of their fates, and it likes to play games.
The summary is from ANN.
I really enjoyed the anime. When it first started I thought it was just senseless violence, but then I realized that it really has a lot to do with how we as people treat each other. We do so many different things to survive even if that means lying, cheating, stealing, or even killing someone else.
Did anyone else enjoy this anime?

I wish that you could have because this anime really teaches us about human nature and how we'll do anything to survive. Spoiler:Quote: In the end the real monsters were humans themselves and not the ones that they were hunting. It showed how we are truly the savages. Well at least that's what I got from it Edit: I actually cried when I watched this anime. Okay, I'm a wimp lol.

Oh man, Gantz is one of my all-time fave anime/mangas of all time. I love it so much that I made it an exception to my no pirating rule and dled the manga, seeing as how it hadnt been licensed at the time I watched the anime. A few days ago, Dark Horse(Bless the bastards) licensed it, so the manga will be hitting North America soon. heart

The anime is one of my favorites of all time. There were some parts that really got me depressed, but I loved the action. The manga is even better than the anime, even if it's kind of lost it's touch now.

You're right. There were some depressing parts, but in all it was good. I liked the fact that between the blood and violence there was a message.
I felt so bad for Katou and his little brother. Katou was one of my favorite characters.
I am so excited about the manga. Cannot wait to get my hands on it.
