Frowning, the female stirred the dark waters of the swamp that lay before her with a claw; the molasses stuck to her scales, and clung to the pelt that hung from her hand, but otherwise, nothing moved. The frown deepened as she peered closer to the surface, making sure to hang onto the small patch of solid earth before sniffling here and there. Still nothing.
After a sigh, Huong sat back against the dark earth and allowed her head to hang in obvious defeat; there were no marshmallows here. She'd been SURE there would be some! After all, MARSHmallows were bound to live in a marsh, right? Swamps were like marshes, right? RIGHT?!
Having no one to ask the question to, the female lifted her head and bellowed to the skies instead, "WHYYyyyYyyyyYY?!" she howled loudly, then turned to leer the dark waters beyond her, "I really wanted marshmallows for my coffee..." it wasn't like it was HER fault the pocket numas her human owned had eaten ALL the marshmallows back in both the human's house AND the numas' cottage.
A small sniffle was swallowed before she leaned back against a tree, crossed her arms over her chest and attempted to look angry. She failed miserable and instead merely managed to look somewhat pouty for a bare minute before the expression slipped away into defeat again; her ears were still flopped, one over her head, the other to the side, making her look almost like a rabbit, "Bummer..."

-Pic soon to come!-
The swamp around the female shook from the loud distressed cry.. birds flew from their perches, small critters looked up in suprise. And one very 'blue' Coffee yelped, fur standing on end.
"Wh-what, what!? WHO!?" He jumped up and down on the tips of his feet like a startled crazy cat, looking around franticly for the owner of the loud, obnoxious voice. When the victim wasn't to be seen anywhere around him, his fur slowly shifted back against his body and he untensed.
Cat-like still, he crouched low to the soggy ground, ears perked strait up as he listened for some other sounds that would reveal the victim's location. Voices barely heard on the wind, the sound of splashing. Things he hadn't noticed before, when he wasn't on guard. Slipping from bush to bush, he prowled closer and closer to the female, until he was able to peer around a large willow like tree to look at her. His face softened. A female. Just a little girl. He heaved out a sigh, the predator pushed back into the depths of his mind... for now. Still cautious though, he just crouched and watched the girl, his one gold eye glistening in the dim light.

It wasn't till Huong fell from the tree she'd decided to climb that she finally noticed someone or something was there, watching her. You see, she'd decided that just perhaps, marshmallows were not exactly like fish, but more like birds and thus resided on the tree tops of the marsh. She was wrong however, and when she'd peered into a nest, the mother bird had been so angry she'd pecked at the coffee's maw once, making the female lose her balance and fall on her back onto the dark earth.
As she lay there, she forced her ears to flatten against her skull rather awkwardly and tried to glare at the nest she couldn't quite distinguish between the branches. It was probably right about then, that the coffee girl finally noticed a distinctly different aroma in the wind, and thus, mostly by instinct, she allowed her nose to wiggle about for few long minutes. It took her a bit to pinpoint where the source of the scent seemed to be, but when she did, she rolled over much like a dog, shock herself free of dust and stared directly in Deigo's directly. She couldn't see him, but the scent told her he was there.
Her first reaction was to back away two paces, looking torn between wanting to hide behind a tree to camouflage herself, and wanting to run for the gumdrop hills. Neither were good idea however; firstly, her pelt was so pink, bright and particularly sparkly that it made hiding in the swamps... impossible. Running was out of the question too; she was hungry and tired.
Her stomach chose that moment to voice the former too, rather loudly, "Moooou...." semi-forgetting about the male she half-knew was there, she sat down again and gripped her stomach, "I want marshmallows.... bet they're all hiding.... can't hunt if they hide... want my coffee with marshmallows..." the words were breathed, almost as if she couldn't care less that someone was watching. Or perhaps she'd forgotten such a fact. Or perhaps... well, whatever the reason, it was hard to tell. A pause followed till her gaze lifted again, "Hey!" she was calling off towards Deigo, defeat having washed over her; better to ask for help after all... if he wasn't a monster hell-vent on eating her ( ;;; ) maybe he'd help her! "Do you know where Marshmallows live around here?"

Deigo continued to watch the odd female as she quested on for the prized marshmellows, sometimes looking confused, sometimes annoyed, but mostly amused. She was cute, even if she was rather moronic. Or so she seemed. Of course, the idea of being caught was far from his mind. Usually he was rather stealthy, and able to spy on people all day. That was what he was best at, anyway. Though when she looked in his direction and even spoke to him.. His eyes widdened, his muzzle wrinkling in annoyance. His pride took a good blow too... Perhaps she was more than she seemed.
Slowly, he prowled from out of his hiding place in the underbrush, staying in the shadow of a tree for a moment. She seemed harmless... But perhaps she was just being sneaky, trying to lure him closer so she could slash at him. Playing oppossum, using an act of hunger and weakness to win him over... It's obvious he's rather paranoid, don't you think?
His voice was low and raspy, an animalistic growling tone spread through the words. "I don't know where any marshmellows are..." He stayed there, crouched low to the ground, ready to pounce if she made a wrong move.

If she noticed he was being paranoid, then she was hiding it extremely well. Either that or she sincerely had no idea whatsoever, for she merely smiled at him, "Well they MUST be around here somewhere! This is a Marsh after all!" she paused then and seemed to think; it was clear due to the 'hmmmm' noise that hummed through her chest as a claw was raised to tap her maw. Most of what she did was out in the open for all to see; she'd never understood the need to make people think she wasn't thinking when she WAS in fact thinking (Try saying that ten times fast).
The growls were likewise ignored, for some reason or another; after all, she was used to being growled at, specially by a few of her house mates due to her her odd behavior and ways. Growls were familiar. Barking dog won't bite.
... That's what she thought, anyhow, and no mater how wrong she might've been, it was still what she believed; she'd never truthfully been attacked, after all (unless one counted the bee from the other day, that had chances her clear around half of Numa land for hours), "Well?" she stood finally, shaking herself off again before padding over; she stopped a little less than a meter away due to him looking quite nervous though, "Will you help me?"

The larger male scampered back as she approached him, his visible gold eye narrowing dangerously at her, his tusks and sharp teeth bared in warning. But she didn't stop, so he continued to scamper backwards until his back hit a tree, pressing his whole body against it. He clung to it so tightly and desperately that the tips of his horns (one of them being the fake of course) dug deeply into the soft bark of the tree and stuck. He blinked, glanced up, then tried moving his head.. Which were securely fixed into place.
His cheeks burned for just a moment in embarssment. But rather than sucking up his pride and asking for help, he just crossed his front paws over his chest and stood to his full height so that it wasnt too obvious his head was stuck in one postion. "Why should I help you?" He snarled down at her.

Now, Huong wasn't exactly the brightest star in the heavens, despite the irony of her pelt being extremely bright in contrast, however, she knew fear when she saw it. She too had growled at that bee before turning tail and running away screaming for help. Needless to say the bee hadn't been very impressed; either way, the male's actions denoted fear. Even the growls. She seemed confused however by his actions, for after all, she didn't quite know it was SHE he was scared of.
So confused was the female that she even turned her head to look over her shoulder, almost expecting some horrific monster to be looming behind her (what else could be scaring him anyhow? Surely not her!). She turned back on him in time to see his horn get stuck in the tree bark; a small giggle bubbled up, which she did her best to hide, a paw coming up to cover her mouth as she disguised it with a cough, "Well, sometimes you shouldn't need a reason to help other than... because you want to?" this said she stepped forward again and stood on her hind feet, taking the chance to release him from the tree that held him prisoner.
As she did this however, she seemed to lose her innocence for just a bare moment, her ears perked, erect, and her eyes taking care to watch both his claws and tail; she seemed alert. It seemed to wash away however, as soon as she released him and stepped back smiling, "There we go, just like that! I had no reason to help you either; I just felt like it," a pause then, "So will you?" somehow, she figured that mentioning that four eyes were better than two, would be rather insulting. Thus Huong kept the notion to herself, given the circumstances.

Deigo hissed at her as she drew closer, flopping around against the tree defensively in an attempt to get away from her, though of course his horns kept him from moving more than a few inches. He didn't attack her, but his claws were held up, so that if she did turn her weapons on him, he could easily bat them away. He seemed more like a paranoid wild cat than a Numa, always paranoid and always overly cautious to the point he'd be afraid of a small harmless girl. Well, not afraid. He was fairly sure that if they did fight, he would win. But just the anxiousness of the possibilty of a fight, always wanting to be careful... No one could be trusted. No one. She was probably just putting up a front.. an act. No one was this kind to him, this innocent.
Once free he continued to scamper away from her until he was back to the spot he originally was, crouched and hiding in the tall grass and weeds of the marsh. He wanted to turn and run away, forget about the dumb girl and her trickery. She was too cute.
"I... don't know where any marshmellows are..." He grumbled, thinking that he was so well concealed now. Safe.

Flopping down on the floor, the girl released a sigh of defeat, her eyes turning away from him to look off, "Well, bummer..." she mumbled, for after all, if this male did not know where Marshmallows lived, who would? Amusingly enough she didn't take offense from the hissing; it was either forgotten instantly, or merely not important enough in her mind. Either way, she seemed perfectly fine with him scampering away from her; if it made him feel better, who was she to say a word?
She liked to sing when she was scared, so really, she wasn't the most appropriate numa to say what he should, and should not do, "Will you help me look then?" the words were directed at Deigo again as she turned to glance his way, offering him yet another smile. If she didn't find any, at least the company would be appreciated (Any company was appreciated. Except bees ;;; and mosquitoes. Huong thought both were horrid, horrid creatures).
A pause before she stood up and at least attempted to join his side, lurking in the grass, her expression confused, "Why do you keep doing that?" she whispered as she too hid herself, "The hiding, I mean; Are you hiding from someone so they can't find you?" she'd unconsciously lowered her voice down to a whisper only he could hear, her head tilting to one side, "Will this attract the marshmallows?" because, honestly? She was very hungry, as her stomach made sure to remind her shortly after she'd said the words, "I'm still kinda hungry, and I hate coffee if it's too bitter; I need my marshmallows," her voice dropped to a bit of a pathetic whine, "It's not my fault the bugs my human brought home are addicted to it... they ate it all. One of them took my coffee mug this morning and was bathing in it ;_; I need a new mug too."
Oh the sheer audacity of the bug-numas! How could they! For shame!
It was probable clear that Huong wasn't the Coffee witch's greatest work of art at any rate.

Deigo tensed and blinked at her as she joined him in his hiding spot. He looked completely dumbfounded. Did this girl never give up...? By now, she would have had plenty of opportunites to attack him... Could she really be this naive and dense? He gulped, then shifted uncomfortably. "Uhh..." He didn't quite know what to say. Should he trust her, at least alittle? And help? Or trust his paranoid judgement and just leave?
He shifted to stand at his full height, trying to seem stronger than her, bigger. Trying to help his ego, if even just alittle... "Fine.. I guuuess... I'll help..." He grumbled, hoping out of the bushes. He frowned back at her cautiously, never leaving his back to her. "I suppose... I'm just used... to hiding." Now that he wasn't growling anymore, his voice seemed akward and almost shy, though his body language still displayed caution and violence. It was as if he wasn't used to talking, leaving pauses in odd places, and saying some words slower, since he wasn't used to pronouncing them. He hadn't actually talked to anyone in a very, very long time.

Unaware of Deigo's moral dilema, the female leaned forward as he stuttered, almost as if more eager to hear the final answer after every 'uhh...' and 'ah...' he seemed to utter, however, it wasn't till he finaly agreed that she squeaked loudly, pulled away and clapped her clapped paws. It was rather an odd site, seeing a coffee numa rear up and clap almost childishly, yet there it was. It was a good thing the coffee witch wasn't watching, really (Then again, had the witch come out, Huong would've probably be running for the hills, screaming 'NOooOOoooo!!' at the top of her lungs).
She didn't even seem tohave a problem with the fact his voice seemed unused; in fact, it was only spurring her on, if a little bit. What would he sound like if he weren't 100% on edge? Would he be diferent? did he SLEEP? He was cranky... perhaps he just needed a good night's sleep! The small femme kept the thought to herself as she reached out and took the tip of his tail into her mouth, tugging on it playfully, "This way then! Let's look over there!" the words were said between a mouth-full of scales and leather. She didn't release him instantly, but rather, tugged softly again, mirrowing the actions of a kitten before finally letting go, running up four paces and stopping to wait up for him.
Her own tail seemed to be wagging about much like a canine's, even despite it being thicker and much more lethal (After all, a whack from a coffee's tail was painful at best; they were strong sturdy tails, and had spikes, to boot. Much like that of a dinosaur). Her mind was not exactly on the marshmallows anymore; truthfully, any type of food would work, so long it was edible for her, "If we can't find marshmallows, will you help me find something else?" a pause followed as she stopped beside a tree and sniffed at it's bark, "What's your name, by the way?" Turning to face him, the smile was gone, but the curiosity remain, "Mine is Hùong, but you can call me Hong."

Deigo continued to stare at Houng in bewildered confusion, not really knowing what to do, or how to react. Most people just turned and ran away when meeting him, since he was so violent and cautious. When she bit him he freaked out a bit, squirming and gripping the ground tightly, claws sinking into the soft earth. Though, when her teeth didn't sink into skin he paused, clinging to the ground for dear life.
"I.. uh..." He frowned at her, his visibal gold eye narrowed. "Food, I guess.. I could use.. use sum too." He slowly lifted himself from the ground, claws flexing as he tried to relax his muscles. This was so unusual for him. He didn't even know why he was agreeing to travel with this girl... Surely she would turn her back on him sooner or later. But.. for now... he would go. And be on guard.
Slowly he walked after her, keeping his eye on her always, watching her every move intensely. "Deigo. I'm... Deigo." He paused once he was standing beside her, glaring down at her for a moment before glancing to the swamp in front of them. What was he getting himself into?

Had poor, poor Deigo been able to take a peek into Huong's mind, he would've probably been the one running for the hills; the girl had no bad bone in her body (or if she did, she hid them rather well). She had no intention of leaving him for the time being, due to several reasons. One being the fact HE himself had not chased her away yet, and two being the fact he was actualy putting up with her. No one else had, or did. They usualy got tired of her within bare minutes and sent her on her merry little way as fast as they could. It was odd to have someone's attention held for so long.
Her only real friend was one of the pocket-bug numas her human had brought; Mew. And even Mew was too cheerfuly hyper to remain with her; her attention strayed far too often and she was known for flying off in the middle of games. She'd also stolen Huong's coffee mug that morning. The coffee numa had not apreciated that ;;; she really wanted her coffee. The lack thereof was causing her to act on impulse, really. Her nose sniffed at the bark before she bit into it and ripped off a piece, only to spit it out, "Nasty..." turning around to face him, looking up, she offered him another smile, "That's a lovely name! It sounds almost spanish! My human is spanish; she makes these awesome .... things, called churros," she stood on her hind legs to try and match his height (failing miserably, for not only were females usualy smaller than males... she was also small, even for a female anyhow), and waved her arms wide to emphasise, "You can dip them on chocolate, sugar AND coffee! They're the best things in the whole wide world! If you come home with me one day, I'll get her to make you some!"
Because obviously, him coming with her home, despite having just met him was totaly plausible in her mind. Hùong was a social butterfly. When allowed she was able to befriend the very rocks on numa land; in fact, she'd once chosen to adopt one. She named it Rocky and had even placed it on her tablet back in her room at home. Rocky wasnt very talkative though, and he didn't move much. Hùong had decided that Deigo was an improvement; he talked and moved! (He was also an improvement over the bee; Deigo wasn't trying to sting her ;;; )
Lowering herself back down on her four feet, the female 'hmmmm'ed loudly, signaling she was thinking before she snapped her clawed finger and once more did the same tugging motion at him; This time she closed her maw carefuly around scruff of fluff that hung from his paw and tugged slowly, "I know a place! I know place! She chirped as she ran, flapping her wings wildly even though they were MUCH too small to allow her to fly. She'd stop to wait for him every so often, but they soon enough reached a coffee licorice field and she pointed, "Do you like those?" this said, she sat down, ripped a piece and offered it to him before doing likewise again and popping it in her mouth.

"..Thanks..." He mumbled when complimented on his name. He didn't quite know what to say as she rambled about her human, so he just sat and watched, flinching and stepping back as she waved her arms, in case she was using the opportunity to slash at him when he didn't expect it. The idea of him going to her house bewildered and frightened him. What? Now she was trying to lure him to her lair!?
He growled under his breath, pondering turning and running... But she'd probably follow. He'd have to be sneaky... Yes, very sneaky... Then of course, she had to tug at the fur on his front legs. (Which was rather coarse and dirty) He hissed and flinched again, but didnt claws at her... Though his claws were aimed at her direction.
Though it was likely that she would ignore this as well. Which, she probably did, and just went on. With a weary sigh, he followed akwardly and slowly. Didn't speak, merely concentrated on following and watching her. Waiting for her to turn her attention completely on something else so he could sneak away... When they stopped at the licorice forest, he just sat and continued to watch. "They're ok, I suppose..."

"Aren't they!" she seemed pleased with his vague answer at least, and purred somewhat for him to hear; it was an instinctive reaction as she reached for more food and gobbled it down. Moving near him again, she swung her head and sniffed at his pelt, moving her nose around the base of his neck, then down, "You smell offfff...." a pause as she leaned away and seemed to think. Hard, "Hhhhmmmm...." tapping her own maw with a claw, she suddenly seemed to come up with some sort of an idea, or determination, thus she turned towards him again, "Of sunshine and wind!" she decided to leave out the 'and fluffy eared bunnies' she was going to add onto the end. Somehow she doubted she'd appreciate such a reference to his person, "People say I smell too sweet to be a coffee," she seemed to turn innocently thoughtful for a moment before smiling, "Maybe I'm half candy numa; I don't really know, really!"
There was .... nothing sneaky about the way she acted. And nothing ulterior about the way she moved; all what she did seemed straightforward. So much so it didn't even seem like she was thinking at all over what she was saying. She seemed to be acting on pure instinct, or merely doing things at they rushed into her mind, one after the other. Not only that, but she seemed perfectly fine with sitting near him; not only was she not turned off by his wincing and stuttering, but rather, it seemed to spurr her on.
This could be a good thing. Or a bad thing for Deigo, really. It was easy to capture Huong's attention (all one had to do was move, really ;;; she was like a cat), but when allowed reign to express the fact she was interested... it was hard to make her give up on a subject matter. She'd spent enough time with him to warrant the idea that she had found a new and wonderful friend! One she'd happily tackle down next time she saw him, too, "You're very blue!" the words were random, but seemed to have some meaning behind them, "I like the color blue; it's the color of the sky," a long pause seemed to follow before she turned to him again and smiled, "Would you like to dance?"
