It is easy, upon coming into power, to think oneself invincible. In seeing everything turn one's way, and the world seeming to bow at one's feet, one can become complacent.
Sonia had never been one for complacency, but now - limbs and lungs on fire as she fled through the streets - she began to wonder if she hadn't been a little, just a little, over-confident.
Something sharp jabbed into one of her forepaws. She squealed in shock, almost collapsing mid stride but somehow managing to run on. Oh, seven hells, broken glass. It would work its way in and ruin her completely - oh, why did she have to come out foraging tonight? They would catch her and beat her like a dog...
But then the sky darkened, and the rain came, and the shouts of angry humans faded into the background. Once again, it seemed that Metropolis was on the side of the Syndicate. Too frightened and hurt to be relieved, the elder raced onward until she reached the park, finally collapsing in the shelter of the adventure playground. Ironic that human structures should so often give shelter to their competitors.
Quaking with shock and exertion, Sonia raised her wounded paw to her mouth and tugged the shard of glass away. Not too deep, heaven be thanked, but how it bled. She lapped at it to clean it, the pain making her tremble through the whole frame of her body, before curling up in a shivering ball to await the return of serenity.
Even as the tears threatened to fall, she knew that this too, as all things, would pass.

Jupo was rather in awe at the city and it size. He kept going around lending a small paw, unseen of course, as humans tend to not like his kind. Though he found it funny as the childern would poke and play with him. Their hand reaching out for his pom-pom which he barely let them touch. How their hands seem to pet him everywhere, but the best part for him was their laugher. In his midn this is what he say the world was his canvas and he would paint on it leaving his mark. Not to be known all over, no that wasn't his plan but to help the world be better on its own.
He was snapped out of his thoughts as rain began to fall. Childern began to run to their homes and some to their parents who near by. Soon he was all lone. He shook his head to shake some of the water off. It was then his small eyes saw soemthign bolt under the structure he had saw some of the childern play on. He carefully inched his way closer with batted breath. What he saw was a large creature and he hoped it would eat him. When he was close enough his pom-pom swaying above his head he noticed it was a fox. He inched his way more into her line of vision.
"Umm...Hello..." His voice came out soft and unsure as he did not know how she would react to his appearance. Jupo only hoped for the best.

By the time the little voice crept into her hiding place, Sonia was weeping in earnest. Tears rolled silently down her cheeks, soaking into her fur and doubtless staining it with salt. She was not used to pain like this, and the cold was no help at all. Who was this, stumbling upon her at such a wretched moment? Wearily she raised her head...and almost at once, her expression changed from despairing to gentle. Surely this was the sweetest, most bright-eyed kit in all the world! She was still crying as he approached, but bravely she put a smile on it to show she meant him no harm.
"Why hello, my darling!" she exclaimed softly. "Come, come in, quick, out of the rain - I should fear for your health if you were wet through, you poor little soul..."
One trembling paw, the uninjured one, reached out for the newcomer. The claws were retracted, and the limb was completely unthreatening. It was almost a human thing to do, reaching out for the soft little kit at a time when she needed comfort. Not that she intended to use him like a comfort blanket - that would be abhorrent - but to have him nearby, though he was a stranger, would make the world seem a little less unkind.

Jupo blinked surpised. This fox was in pain. Even with that smile she had on he could see in the faint light that her eyes were shining with tears. It was then he took a small wiff of the air. Blood! He could smell it, though it wasn't a lot he could tell she was bleeding. He sat up and raised his paw shaking his head.
"Kupo. Wait here, I shall return miss." With those words Jupo dissappeared into the rain. It wasn't too long though before he returned wetter then before but not caring too much. He was caring some kind of cloth, normally referred to as a baby's bib(sp). He then motioned with one of his small paws to her injured one.
"We need to wrap that up, kupo. It shall help to stop the bleeding and maybe ease your pain." He nodded in agreement with himself causing his pom-pom to bounce and throw water in a couple of directions. He blushed just faintly.
"Sorry about that." Jupo smiled at her warmly a pink tint still on his cheeks. This fox needed his help and maybe some comfort. He of course was more then willing to comply. His small wings fluttered just a bit due to his happiness at helping someone who was in need.

He had brought her a clean cloth. Still fresh from the washbasket, almost - the only scent on it was rain, rain and grass. And he was smiling. Sonia didn't need to know who he was any more. If he could do this for a stranger...that was more than enough for her.
"How kind you are, little master," she said quietly, smiling weakly as she beckoned him closer. "Come, see...it was glass, broken glass, a clean cut. The cloth will do very well until Atticus can see to it - here, would you help me wrap it? I must be such a burden. I am so dreadfully sorry: you find me upon the worst of days, dear one, and in the worst of states."
Extending her injured paw to him was only in part to encourage his aid. It was as much an expression of trust as that, though - she did not fear that he might harm her further, or think her weak. Kind foxes like this one were to be treasured, no matter their age or appearance. His small wings and soft red pompom had not escaped her notice, but in the midst of everything she had not remarked upon them. Perhaps it was better not to. Those who show any outward signs of deviation from a supposed norm are too often ill-treated by those around them.

Jupo nodded eagarly(sp) and again his pom-pom seemed to throw off more water. He quickly ushered another apoligy and went to work. He carefully placed the cloth under her paw though took him a while he managed. Then he brought up one end and then the other, wraping them around her paw and with the help of Sonia he tied it. He smiled at her. His bright blue eyes glancing over her to make sure there were no other injuries. During all this time he took in her story in silence and once done with his task he sat down on his hind legs to see her better.
"I see, kupo. " He paused for a moment and then smiled once again.
"Then I think you should be fine, kupo! It does not appear to be infected, at least I wouldn't think it would be since it rained and all." He paused again seeming to think on the matter a bit more. Then he glanced her once more his bright blues eyes seemed to soften even more, if that were possible. He gingerly reached over and with the backside of his paw wiped her eyes. He smiled and nodded.
"No lady should cry, Kupo. No no, no tears on a wonderous night like tonight." He smiled at her fluttering his wings again in his contentment as he watched her.

Even as the little paw wiped her cheeks, Sonia's tears were drying. Her paw still hurt, but the shock was subsiding and that was enough to quiet her. She smiled, blinking away the last of the tears.
"I apologise," she said softly. "I should not be so despondent - when one is all alone and cold and hurt, the world can seem so very cruel. It is a beautiful night, though. Even here, in the last green stronghold in a city of stone and steel, the rain whispers its promise of life. ...But dear me, little rescuer, where are my manners? I am Sonia Sanguinia, Mother of the Sanguine Syndicate, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart."
Whoever the little stranger was, his appearance fascinated her. The ever-present pompom seemed to be attached to his head by some form of antenna, and those little wings...could he fly? Doubtful, but nonetheless they added to his charm. In all other respects he looked very much like a fox kit, but Sonia wasn't sure whether to think of him as a fox or not. The wings she might have allowed, given the existence of the Modiphim and their dark cousins (a little shiver as she recalled Dorchet's fiery gaze), but the pompom...what of that?
((Eagerly. Close. ^^ And in place of "ushered" I think you mean "uttered", to speak as opposed to the act of leading or directing something.))

Jupo smiled glad to see her smiling. It was then that he sat back on his hind legs to listen to her. He smiled nodded once she was done. His bright blue eyes still dancing with life.
"I am Jupo, kupo. I am no father or mother of any tribe. I just go around helping others and using the world as my canvas I paint a better picture from the one that is there." He smiles again his eyes seeming a bit distant, as if thinking of one wonderous and grand design in his mind. Soon after he quickly shook his head his pom-pom giving a small bounce.
"Forgive me for that, kupo. I seem to have kind of zoned out." He laughed a bit nervously that is until he noticed her glancing at his odd features. He knew from the start they weren't normal but he loved them none the less. He smiled at her.
"Jupo was born was born with these, kupo." He grinned a bit appearing like any playful fox kit and fluttering his wings he began to hover just a few inches above the ground. He gave a soft laugh that sounded more like a giggle.
"See? Can fly just a few feet above the ground, kupo." He smiled then landed back on his hind legs. He touched his pom-pom which just bounced as usual.
"As for Jupo's, pom-pom I do not know what it does, kupo. But the childern love it." He laughed again and smiled at Sonia hoping that would clear things up.

Sonia chuckled along with Jupo, feeling a little warmer and more at ease. The world probably looked simpler to him than it did to her. He was good company for that - the cares of the world seemed to be swept away.
...But what had he said about...
"...Jupo, do you think of yourself as an artist?"
Perhaps there was an opportunity here. If Jupo wanted to help people, then the backing of a tribe would be useful to him. And art...well, she knew of art. The Syndicate would probably find him whimsical at first, but Sonia had a strange kind of faith in the little fox already. She had a feeling that, if he tried, he could face down a Devil's Advocate and pass the test.
"The Syndicate - I doubt you have heard, for few seem to know, but we are an organisation of artists. Those who can defend their art before a fox appointed to denounce them may join, and thus earn our support and protection. This may be presumptuous of me, but I...I believe I sense a little Sanguine blood in you..."
((But you're doing what's important - you're literate to a good standard, and you know how to paint a convincing character in a way that's enjoyable to read. Children. And watch out for sentences with no verbs! Don't mind my nagging too much, I'm a perfectionist and I'm honestly just trying to help. ^^;; ))

Jupo nodded when asked if he considered himself an artist. He was about to speak until he could see in her eyes she was thinking about something so he waited. He listened to her speak about this tribe, he was intrigued.(sp)
"That might be, kupo. Yet I do not paint with colors, paper, or even draw for that matter. " His blue eyes were dancing in the dim light as he smiled.
"I am an invisiable(sp) hand that slowly but surely leaves his impact on the world. No, I do not want the fame or glory. I just want to improve the world, kupo. For you see the world is a painting that had been damaged. I, Jupo, shall be the one to fix it, kupo. That is my dream." He nodded with a seriousness that almost seemed unlike him. Then again when one would look into his eyes they still danced with that fire.
((Btw its no biggie. I don't mind. Thankies for the help ^.^))

Sonia almost laughed. He was no traditional artist, that was for certain, but oh, he was perfect! The rest of the Syndicate, if they heard such an argument in his favour, would surely find him suitable to join their number.
"I think," she said, grinning, "that you would stand up very well before the Devil's Advocate. What say you, gentle friend: will you try your luck? I for one should be delighted to call you Sanguinius."
And so would Atticus, she thought to herself, if the two were to meet. The dark shaman shared Jupo's view of the world and his place in it, to some extent - he too lived to improve the lot of others. Perhaps he could teach Jupo to read... Hylden would object, of course, but she always did where kits were concerned. Jupo wasn't like a kit, though. He was more like a miniature adult. Perhaps the huntress would learn to respect him for his philosophy as well as his unique art.
As she awaited his answer, the rattle of the rain on their wooden shelter was beginning to subside.
((Whew. I get pwned for being picky a lot. XD "Intrigued" is correct, good call. "Invisible", though - in + visible, as in "not visible", rather than invisi + able, as in "can be invisi'd". Hope that helps. Oh, and bear in mind that I'm British and will give you British spellings sometimes: do double check me if you're unsure. ^^;; ))

Jupo listened intently and as she told him that she wanted him to joinher tribe, his whole expression just lit up. If he wanted to he would of jumped around for joy. He instead just nodded and smiled at Sonia.
"I shall accept your wonderful offer, kupo." He nodded his pom-pom bouncing. Though he was rather curious as to what this Devil's Advocate was. Though he would ask her about it later. He was too excited and happy to worry about understanding all of it at this moment. He was sure he would have time later on to learn all he needed to. He nodded again this time more to himself. Then he looked back at Sonia and touched her gently with his paw.
"I didn't think I would be accepted anywhere, kupo." Jupo's eyes and expression seemed to sadden.
"You see I do not grow. I have always been this big, kupo. I am not a normal fox. I just didn't know how other foxes would react, kupo." He let out a soft almost pained sigh as if he has been plagued by this thought for a while now.

She'd had a feeling that he wasn't a normal kit. Oh, the poor soul! How long had he been worrying about this? Reaching up, she laid her paw against his in a comforting fashion. "The Syndicate rejoices in difference, Jupo," she said softly. "Have no fear. They will not reject you on grounds of your appearance. If you can pass their test and be seen by them as an artist, they will accept you as they would any other fox who met their approval."
Perhaps she would have to see about finding some jewellery for him, whether he passed the test or not. To have jewellery was the mark of an adult - kits were not often permitted to wear it.
"The only problem I see is that one of our members - Hylden - is rather averse to kits. She may be a little hostile until either you or I can explain. You have no need to fear her, though: she would never attack while I am around, and once she knows you are no child she will show you the same respect that she shows everyone else."

Jupo's expression changed to more happier one as her words comforted him and made him relax slightly. Though this test did worry him. Would he pass or would he not pass. He only hoped he did. It was then that Jupo noticed that it had stopped raining. With a smile he turned to her.
"Well I guess you shall have to show me the way, kupo. Since I do not know where your tribe is located. Oh and how is your paw?" He glanced at the paw with the cloth wrapped around it. He hoped it had at least stopped bleeding and didn't hurt. He removed his paw from her and stood up.
"Can you walk, Sonia?" He tilted his head watching her. His blue eyes filled with concern and a bit of worry. A small kupo escaped his lips as he watched her closely.

"I..." She wasn't sure. Cautiously, the pale elder rose on trembling paws and stood at her full height. "...I can stand, so I should think I can walk," she said with a sheepish grin. "I may be slower than usual, though, so I suppose I should be grateful that the rain seems to have stopped - I for one have no desire to get any wetter tonight."
Her paw still twinged, but it seemed to have stopped bleeding for the most part. Provided she didn't put too much weight on it, she should be fine. She'd likely see worse in her time.
"...Yes, it looks to be dry," she announced, peeping out of the shelter of the climbing frame. "Come, let me show you to our sanctuary. The Syndicate awaits my return, and any artist I bring is likely to be as welcome as I." She certainly hoped this would be the case: even in such a short time she had grown fond of Jupo, and would be deeply upset if the Sanguinites rejected him.
((Couple of things here - "more happier" is redundant, "happier" is sufficient. Also, "would he pass or (etc)" is a question and should be ended with a question mark. Sorry as usual for the picking. 3nodding ))
