Ok, this is my first topic in the guild. *wave*
Anyways, I was wondering if you guys preferred the manga or the anime?
Well, I prefer the anime, and here is my (probably nonsense) reason why. I actually somehow stumbled upon Death Note. I still can't figure out how. But anyways, I went onto youtube to do some "research" so have you. And I found the live action movie. (which I now know doesn't do the series ANY justice.) However, I did like it so I went out and got the first manga. I read it, but didn't like how it was written. So I went out and checked out the anime, and it hooked me. This is rare for me that I like the anime better, but I do. 3nodding
Anyways, I know the manga is farther ahead than the anime, so no spoilers please. The anime is only on 30, and I believe the manga is already the whole series finished? I'm not even sure. sweatdrop
Anyways, back to my question. The anime or the manga?

I like the manga better. I haven't seen much of the anime, but it's a bit inconvient watching it at the moment. If it is something I really like, I want to watch it on DVD. I want both English dub and Japanese with subtitle options. There actually are a very very few English voice actors I like and will listen to dubs if they are doing it.... but just in case the English voice acting is eeew, I want the Japanese with subtitle option too. So far Viz has been doing the subtitle version watch on your PC only and DVDs aren't even announced. Eeew eeew eeew. Also characters tend to be more fully developed in manga than in anime. There are exceptions but when manga comes before anime as with Death Note, this is the case more often than not. As for the slightly unrelated note, here's my Light cosplay mule. -> http://www.gaiaonline.com/profile/index.php?view=profile.ShowProfile&item=7093860(Don't mind how bad the profile is as I'm trying to convert my V2 profile to old school.)

I haven't seen the anime yet. I'll wait for the dub 'cause I don't feel the need to see the anime yet, meaning, I prefer the manga.

I prefer the manga. I'm really attached to the black and white art...and there aren't any horrible CG scenes in the manga.

I perfer the manga, the anime goes a little fast in the story and mess's with some charater disigns. though I have to say, the anime does have some good points.

The manga is always better.
Plus, the dramatic writings scenes in the anime made me laugh so hard. Nobody, not even L, write's like that.
WRITE NORMALLY, LIGHT. THIS IS WHY L THINKS YOU'RE KIRA. :B

I like both equally, to tell the truth. I like the anime because it just puts it in a sense of 'oh wow, this is REALLY happening. Light, you're a d**k.' And that makes this aspect better then the manga. I like the manga because it develops the story and characters more in certain areas. I also like the manga because the second arc wasn't short. The anime made me wanna kill it for cutting Matt out almost entirely, not to mention just making it too short.
The anime made me lawl SO hard during some parts. For instance, the epic writing. And how Mikami all but CAME in 36. Their both superior.

Oh lord, his pick-up lines during high school must be fantastic.
"So, I've seen the way you work that pencil in [class]... cool "

"So, I've seen the way you work that pencil in [class]... cool "I'm thinking along the lines of "I love justice and if you'll look down just a tad, you'll notice I have astonishing hand movements." Cept, I'd imagine it'd be drawn out and awkward.

^ XD That made me laugh. When I first saw Mikami's epic writing scene, I was like 'OMFG HE'S CHARGIN' HIS LAZERS. O:' He could fight crime himself with that power without using the Death Note. xD
As for manga vs anime, I'll let you know when I read the mangas. Just got 'em for my birthday. xD I'm thinking I'll probably like the mangas more though, because of the development and depth of Mello and Near. I loved Mello as a character when I saw him in the anime, but you learn like, nothing about him from it. :/ And he's not in it enough. D:
