I was wondering if any parents had experience with babies or toddlers biting themselves?
Yesterday I noticed some marks on my son's forearm (Pink, not breaking the skin or anything) and it looks like a mouth imprint. I noticed more later on in the day, but I haven't seen him do it once. Is this normal? Is it a phase? Is he just 'testing'?

As long as he's not breaking the skin, I wouldn't overly worry about it. Often times toddlers go through that discovery thing. Eventually, he'll figure out it hurts. My son used to be a headbanger and while it's freaky at first, they have to discover it hurts. My big thing was I had to not give attention to the self-destructive behavior, which can be hard.
Of course, this is given that he is not around other kids when this happens. It's a whole different difficult story when it's biting other people. gonk

Yeah, he wasn't around other children, and I know I didn't do it, so I know it would have been him. xd
He used to do the headbanging thing, but mostly stopped that. Sometimes he still does it, and he likes to headbutt to show affection (Lightly usually). I assumed it was just a testing thing, as he hasn't broken the skin, and I know he's not teething. It's just.. Kind of freaky, you know? sweatdrop
My son used to bite me, but it was only if I stuck a finger in his mouth to check his teething or to brush his teeth with the finger-brusher. xp

I know this might be an "old post" but I use to work at the day care center at my college... We had two toddlers playing with toys when all of a sudden the little girl takes away the red car from the little boy. He then looks like he wants to hit her but instead turns around and bites himself...I told his mom about it and how worried I was. But she said he could have watched his father do that when the father is angry with himself...
The boy was only 2 at the time...thought it was weird.

Oh goodness biting themselves is funny!
Mines is in the head banging age and biting age...I have to get in the habit of crying when she bites me to let her know it hurts..Right now she is biting her self and laughing about it XD So its kinda funny. It should be a phase but since this post is old he probually out grew it already
