WARNING: This role play may contain scenes of graphic violence and occasional language, as well as overtures of things better left unsaid. If you are sensative to the harsher realities of life, you may well want to take yourself elsewhere

As the title suggests, this RP will take place on, around, and within the Ocean, yes that is a very vague and huge expanse of water, but for people to start they generally like to have their own things. It's also liable to end up multi-genre, though any and all magic I would like to keep to a minimum. The main focus of this will likely end up being modern-day pirates. Which will mesh well with my intent.

Your character can be any mundane species (Human or otherwise) and selected unnatural species if first discussed with me. Along the lines of such films as The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo and Happy Feet, all the animals will speak one common language, however, Humans cannot understand it. The only notable exception is that the research vessel animals can communicate in morse code, some more fluently than others.

Character Submission Info
Name: Character's name Played By: Your Username
Species: Should be self-explainitory, moreso than saying please give me their taxonomic classification, human, great white shark, grey whale etc
Appearence/Distinguishing Features: What would make your character stand out compared to another.
Personality: How does your character interact with others and what is their genral outlook on life
Skills/Abilities: How does your character measure up to others? Faster, stronger, slower, weaker, smarter, dumber etc
History: Mostly just what made them who they are and where they came from, I'd prefer it shorter than longer so do your best to be simple and precise, And even then do your best ot reveal most of it only via story, and not give away all plot twists off the bat.

Name: Orkis Played By: furry1337otaku
Species: A hybridized cross of Killer whale, leopard Seal, river otter and black murre
Appearence/Distinguishing Features: While much longer than an ordinary orca her size, she is not much more massive, as her wings are of pneumatic bones, and she has a thinner layer of blubber, however she makes up for this lack by metabolism, and a sleek coat of fur. Her patterning at first glance is mostly like that of an orca but darker spots speckle her body. Her wings erupt from just below and slightly back from the crest of her dorsal fin, and bear typical murre markings with the exception of the grey 'saddle' patch typical of orcas. She has small webbed hind feet capable of minimal grasping ability. There is a metal tag on her dorsal fin, by which the research vessel she escaped from could track her, if they were to again come within range of her.
Personality: Orkis is very smart, but also rather young. She is extremely lonely, yet paranoid and somewhat belligerent, but only due to having a voracious apetite and having been mistreated by humans in the past.
Skills/Abilities: Orkis is very very intelligent, perhaps more so than the average human, unfortunately she is not very liable to interact in much more than a predatory manner to most other life forms. She is of rather clumsy locomotion, her wings are nowhere near large enough for her to fly, or even glide, and they produce considerable drag whilst she is in the water, even if they can aid in swimming. On land they help somewhat as a third set of underpowered appendages to slide her foreward a few feet at a time. She is faster than a leopard seal on land, but over a distance, even a penguin could outrun her. She can, if she so chooses communicate with humans, but only through morse code.
History: Orkis was genetically engineered and spliced, for no natural creature would be able to survive as a race with so many handicaps as she. Normal orcas attack her on sight as the abomination she is though she associates with great whales during krill season. She eats everything smaller than she is, with the exception of the calfs of great whales for the sole fact she wishes their company.

Name: Veriax Played By: Zakai-tan
Species: Merman
Appearence/Distinguishing Features: Veriax is a 15 year old male with a very slender build on the upper, human part of his body. He has silvery purple hair that reaches his waist. His eyes are dark purple, with slitted pupils. His fingers are clawed, and are extremely sharp. Where his ears should be are finlike ears (like the gaian item) that are dark purple. His fin is purple, speckled with silver and dark blue. He has smaller fins on his arms, starting at his wrist and ending at his elbow. The area around this has purple tinted scales. He wears jewelry made from shells and bones around his neck, arms, and dangling from his fin ears. A large ruby is on one of his many necklaces.
Personality: He is incredably untrusting, but very loyal once you get through his barrier.
Skills/Abilities: His is a fast swimmer, but tends to avoid conflict when necissary. He will slash at things with his claws, or find something pointy to use if he has to fight.
History: At the age of one, he was human. He was used in a scientific experiment that went wrong. He took on his half fish state and was thrown away into the ocean when he was 12. Since, he has been living a life of solitude, as he is extremely untrusting.

Name: Captain Zachary Bernadette Played By: furry1337otaku
Species: Human, part french.
Appearence/Distinguishing Features: Capt. Zack has longish unruly sandy brown hair, and his visible eye is golden brown. His other eye under an eyepatch, was very badly damaged and has turned blue and is very sensative to light. He has several scars, and usually more than a little facial hair built up. He always wears a thick leather collar that covers just about the whole of his neck and a Kevlar bullet proof vest. He generally wears swim trunks and sandals, but any shorts will do.
Personality: While apparently cheerful, Zack has a very dark outlook on things, and sees the world as a miserable place. Despite his ruthlessness and his own belief on the matter, he is at heart a good person, and has simply grown up in a terrible place. He is restless by nature and rarely stays in one place long
Skills/Abilities: Zachary is rather quick witted, and very suave when he wants to be. A machine gun is his weapon of choice, but he is also rather good at hand to hand fighting courtesy of street brawling, and carries a knife at all times.
History: The captain has spent most of his life at sea, and spends very little time actually enjoying the wealth he has stolen for himself.

Name: Lucas Wright Played By: Misopan_Kurai
Species: Human
Appearence/Distinguishing Features: Average to middling height, with his dishwater blonde hair cut in a millitary style crew cut. He has piercing blue eyes and a stern demeanor. He is in his late thirties.
Personality: Grim, dour and authoritative, Lucas is a dependable figure, obedient without question even if he doesn't particularly like his orders, and a very efficient commander.
Skills/Abilities: Lucas is well-muscled and has a background in warfare. He is a crack shot and brutal hand to hand fighter. He is smart and experienced in his field and not just yet out of his prime.
History: Lucas went into the service directly after graduating high school and was moving up the ranks and becoming a venerable soldier, when during one night's leave everything went wrong. On the run Lucas found himself as a member of a pirate crew. Somehow he made it through and escaped only to end up working for security of another corrupt organization.

The sea was as calm as ever it was, when a flock of penguins began exploding up from the water, after skidding along on their bellies a short distance they got up and waddled in the manner of their kind. While they all looked back behind their shoulders a number of time, they seemed mostly calm. After a little while they were calmer yet, and eventually they began to leap back into the water after the fish they required for sustenance. As they swam in their particular flying motion searching after their own prey, the predator that had been stalking them circled back and charged in for the attack, the leopard seal snapped it's formiddable jaws at their tails and as predator and prey alike raced to the surface, then something from below slammed into the leopard seal and behind the tide of penguins it was forced onto the ice. The creature holding the seal shook like a terrier with a rat and then dropping the lifeless body began to thrash and snap at as many penguins as it could reasonably catch chasing after with seal like undulations itself, before it grew too tired to prusue and the penguins made it to safety. Then it turned, and began back on it's trail of death snapping down the many smaller corpses. It continued relentlessly until it began to snap down stripping the blubber from the seal, and working it's way down. It slowed its pace then, and clearly by the time it was finishing it's stomach was full. Then the beast heaved a sigh, and basking in the antarctic sun, began to snooze as it's meal digested. It had been a lucky stroke to find a seal so distracted as not to notice her rising from the gloom.

OOC: And now the entire reason behind the warning.

The small luxury yacht had barely noticed the weather beaten fishing trawler that they had seen earlier in the day, and by nightfall they had entirely forgotten about it. The entirety of the small ships personages were a man, his wife, and their 11 year old daughter. They slept peaceably below decks far away in dreams when the trawler pulled up beside them under the cover of darkness. A few men crept aboard and stood at ready over the couple, the little girl sleeping unnoticed on the curtained loft above them. As a signal, the floodlights of the trawler poured in through the windows and with some shouting the small vessel was boarded and commandeered by the trawler's crew. The little girl watched unseen as the men demanded the location of her father's safe, and he was dragged to show it to them.

The leader of the crew had spoken hardly a word, standing idly by as his men procured the information that they sought. He followed the one group into the cabin with the safe, and the rest of the men held the woman captive. The girl watched on helplessly frozen as the men first threatened and then began to have their way with her mother. A small whimper escaped the girls throat and a few tears began to drop from her eyes. "N-no... Dont... STOP IT!" She yelled.

One of the unoccupied pirates turned and pulled back the curtains where the girl sat in her nightgown. "Well, what have we here..."

"Ain't really my type but when we finish with the hag-"

A small explosion shook the boat and some cursing emerged as well as smoke from the cabin. "The HELL is wrong with you! Trying to sink us?" Shouted the captains voice. "I said a quarter of an eigth stick you moron!" The man in question stormed out, taking a deep drag on his cigarette. "Bunch of fu-..." He stopped and looked around at the scene unfolding in the small bedroom. "Aw hell you pigs..." He spat in disgust at the state of the woman in the floor, and when his eyes alit on the girl, his face turned very cold. "No one touches the girl." His voice was ice, and his crew gave him odd looks as he walked up to the bewildered child. He looked her over, his teeth clenched around his cigarrette butt as his hard eyes appraised her. He turned back to the men and spat. "Finish up with the safe, kill the poor woman for god's sake, dispose of the bodies, THOROUGHLY clean the boat up, Peter and Jeff are taking it into port."

"Didn't know you had a thing for little girlies Cap'n..." Giggled one of the men. The captain shot the man a glare which would have killed.

"She's mine, if I EVER find out one of you have touched her, I'll cut of whatever did the touching, and kick you into a bunch of chum happy sharks in a feeding frenzy and then shoot you."

"Yes Cap'n" The men said soberly, knowing that the man would be true to his word. He turned back to the girl, poked around her bed til he found what he assumed was her luggage, grabbed it, slung the girl over his shoulder and went back to his own ship and cabin. Once in his own room, he kicked and locked the door behind him and sat the girl on his bed.

"I am Captain Zachary Bernadette, I am the one who has so terribly stolen your childhood, and I am sorry for that, but I will not lie, I am a horrible person, I do terrible things to good people on a daily basis, it is my life, and has always been so since I was smaller than you. I am a pirate, a real one, not some shanty singing Robin Hood of the sea, I kill people, and I take the things that belong to them, I give it to other people for money. I use my money to do it all again. The only difference between myself and those men who work for me is that I am not satisfied merely to take a woman's body, when I own something I want to own it fully, heart and soul. And I will keep you until I have won that. I promise, I will never hurt you, and if ever I do, I will pull the trigger myself.

This smelly little room is the only place you will be safe, if you are ever in trouble, come here and lock the door behind you. When we go back to the mainland, I will get you a knife, and a copy of the key to this door." He paused then to take another drag on his cigarette and sighed the smoke away as the last of the tobacco burned from the butt. He pulled out the stub and ground it out on his desk, which bore several scorch marks of a similar nature. He took off the thick leather collar which encircled his neck and rubbed at the pale skin there, evidentally he wore it all day every day, and then the kevlar vest which was all that covered his torso. He sat down on the bed beside the girl and kicked off his sandals before pulling up the legs of his cargo pants. he unstrapped a knife and a pistol, and then rammaged through his many pockets pulling out other objects some of which were even less identifiable.

He turned to look to the girl and smiled. "We might as well get some sleep then." He crawled back against the wall of the cabin and stretched out. He reached out to her and pulled her towards him. She resisted and he laughed. "I have already told you I will do nothing to hurt you, now get over here, you have no choice in the matter, as I told my men before, You are mine now, you belong to me. You will learn to do as I say."

Against her will, the girl found herself held tightly against the man's body, she was tensed up ready to take the first chance to flee, but although he held her securely he did not seem to do anything more than that. He merely breathed slowly and waited for her to relax. Eventually, she did, though still wary. He merely breathed "Atta girl." and eased his hold on her. Slowly, breathing in the unfamiliar smell that was a salty mix of sea, sweat and smoke, she even fell asleep. Smiling, the captain softly ran a callused hand over her hair, and began to drift off to the gently rocking swells himself.

OOC: The Captain is such an interesting man...

Eventually, Orkis returned to the water. She was sluggish, and happily full, she would likely not need to feed for some time. She swam for awhile before she started to realize the strange silence. As a large predator herself it was not unusual for other animals to avoid her, but this silence spread further than she was accostomed. When suddenly a panicking school of fish rushed past her heedless of her presence chattering with fear.

"OrcaorcaorcaOrcaorcaorcaOrcaorcaorca" came the many voices. Orkis stopped and loked around, her mind confused. The word was familiar, and was sometimes even said of her. Not seeing anything she surfaced to breathe and then dove again, searching harder. Two black and whit pinto shapes were nearing her, and as they spotted her she felt waves of sound directed at her.

"Orca?" Questioned the smaller. "Not-orca?" Considered the other. The two circled her, they were both smaller than she was though the larger was nearly her equal.

"Orca-seal?" Quavered the large one examining Orkis more closely.

"Not orca" They confirmed but still they continued to circle her their simple questions phrased mostly to each other, it was just as well, because Orkis did not know what to say. "Seal is prey. Orca not-food, but not-orca food? Not-orca prey?" Sent the smaller one.

"Not-orca Prey?!" The larger repeated the idea appealing to their carnivoristic apetites.

"Not-right. Kill not-orca. Not-orca not-right. Not-right die. Not-right not belong." Came a third more powerful tone. Orkis twisted around to catch a glance at the full sized mother orca charging her jaws wide. It took only a few moments for it to compute in Orkis' brain that she needed to flee. She was suddenly terrified as she realized they were much faster than she was and the mother orca connected with her hindparts direct to where her tail joined her body. Orkis screamed and then one of the young orca's grabbed into one of her front flippers. The third took a mouthful of feathers and grazed the tip of one of her wings.

She pulled her wing free and clamped both to her back, twisted to rip a piece of flesh from the back of the head on the smallest orca on her flipper and ripped herself free of the mother orca's grasp. The mother orca chomped again onto one of Orkis' flukes, but Orkis retaliated by twisting in a way entirely foreign to an orca's body structure and began ripping athe the mother orca's abdomen. hearing the middle size orca turn around and charge for another attack, orkis turned to face it and twisted to dodge the forefront of the attack and grabbed the flipper closest to her. She yanked back against it and felt the bone dislocate even as it veered off course to crash into the mother orca. The smallest was so bewildered by the fact that the prey had attacked her that it simply drifted to the surface and hung there breathing.

Orkis fled to the nearest ice pack and once a distance from the edge of the ice, she relaxed only to have the adrenaline abandon her system leaving her a wreck of pain and exhaustion.

OOC: There is more coming as orkis needs to head to warmer waters to have any character interaction, but I have to leave for work now.

Veriax floated over a large rock, touching it with a clawed hand. There were many holes in the rock, all too big for him to hide in, but he wasn't looking for a new shelter today. He was hungry, and he saw small fish hiding in the rock.

He swam to the bottom of the rock, his long hair flowing around him. He rested there, waiting for the fish to swim out. When they did, he swam up, slashing at several larger fish, his claws meeting only a few. He grabbed the injured and began ripping into it, eating the little meat there was on it.

After a few of these fish, he was unsatisfied, but made his way to the surface, ignoring the pangs of hunger.

He was currently located near an island, uninhabited by humans, as far as he knew. Veriax had examined it as well as he could, but since he couldn't go on land, he didn't do a good job. Still, he had seen fruit in the trees, and now was trying to figure out how to aquire them.

OOC: I like the Captain so far X3 I may end up making a pirate character, just so we can have some interaction going on.....

The Lead Security officer on the offshore research facility sighed as he looked down on the water. His name was Lucas. he'd had a long and colorful career. Sometimes, he wished it would just end. So many things he'd seen, so many things he'd wished he'd never done, and so many things he wished he'd had. And yet here he was, watching as others did their crimes against humanity and accepting it all with well bought silence. He'd been on the project longer than most, he'd seen the twisted and misshapen ruins of the failed experiments, witnessed cruelties that defied explanation.

OOC: Bleh, not in the groove tonight.

OOC: Go right ahead, you might even want to try your hand at being a crew member, would allow much sooner interaction, and better character development.

The captain had woken up several times during the night whenever the little girl tossed turned or otherwise fidgeted in her sleep, but all in all it was probably some of the best sleep he'd had in some time. it was about time for him to get moving, so carefully he crept out of bed so as not to disturb the little girl and went to his desk. He studied the map before him, marking their current position and the tally of what items and valuables they had captured in the night. Also he charted estimates for the time and distances for when he was to meet his other crew members which had taken the boat to a fence. He looked at the local populations to find where would be the best place to land and resupply.

A murmur from the bed informed him the girl was waking and with a sigh he folded the map and tucked it safely away. "Good morning little one..." he whispered softly, waiting with a sense of sorrow for the horroified revelation she would have after taking in her surroundings.

She was surprisingly quiet. She looked around looked up at the captain and rubbing her eyes she merely whispered. "It wasn't a dream..." The flat disappointed tone was more depressing to the captain than any amount of screaming wailing or other fighting would have been. She'd just numbly accepted her fate, and fell in line. Clearly she had suffered before. The captain's heart went out to her, to know that for her to take it all in stride so swiftly could only mean this was not the first time she'd had to watch the ugly side of life.

"No, I am afraid it was not..." He was quiet for a bit before continuing. "I just realized...I do not know your name..."

The girl looked up at him, her liquid brown eyes intelligent and calculating. She really was a beautiful child. It meant that he would have to keep her close, the men would only take his threats seriously for so long, and it would be a waste for one of them to get ahold of a prize like this. "A-annabella Guitierez." She said simply.

The captain smiled. "Ah, what a suitable name, though I shall call you Belle for short little beauty." he laughed at the irony. "I suppose I shall be your beast." He trailed off for a moment before shaking his head. "Ah well, I suppose that there is no time like the present come, we must attend to the business of the morning." With that, he replaced the thick leather collar around his neck and was reaching for his vest when the girl commented. "Why do you wear that thing?"

The captain smiled grimly. "So that no one may cut my throat. The vest is so that no one will shoot me there. Or rather so that when they do it will not kill me." "Do lots of people try to kill you?"

The captain laughed, "All the time. Come now, we must appear on deck."

Orkis needed to go back to the water, the sun was becoming unbearable, beating down on her black furred hide. Wailing withe every movement, she scrawled back to the cool ocean. Her wounds had stopped bleeding, but even still they ached badly, and the injury to her flipper was reopening as she moved, despite it being crunched into snow, if anything, it was making the problem worse, being that the snow had a tough crust formed over it. She let out an involuntary shriek again as the salt water hit her injuries, adding a new burning sensation to their already sore and piercing pain. She was frozen in wailing agony for a few moments before regaining control of herself and begining to swim. She nearly cried out again and again with every thrust of her injured tail but managed to hold back for fear of other predators coming to finish her off. Already she was worried about her cries of agony and the trickle of blood she was leaving behind in the water. She knew the sharks would smell it, while no shark had ever been large enough to threaten her before, she knew she wouldn't hold up to any kind of fight again. Suddenly the water exploded into sound. Thrumming music opened up all around her and something enormous rose up from the deep.

"My my what have we here?" The behemoth groaned as his spray fountained out and he inhaled a deep new breath into his lungs."Not an orca..."

Orkis was terrified, dwarfed by this monsterous creature there was nothing she could do. Then all of the sudden more of them began to drift up from the gloom around her.

"Do not be frightened little one, we do not eat others like the Killer-orca."

"We don't even feed on the schools like Fish-orca" Another commented.

"You have krill eating teeth too little one." Another commented. She was being examined at all angles by sonar, and the constant beams of sound were making her a little dizzy.

"She is hurt and frightened, allow her some space." The greatest shape added again.

"I was hunted by orca..." She muttered. "They said I am not-orca and not orca is prey..."

"Ah, to the killer-orca which haunt these water, even we might be considered prey depending on their number." He beamed at her in a friendly manner. "And what are you?"

"...I...am Orkis..." She concentrated trying to recall her origins. "I came from ... lagoon? Surface walking creatures, some friendly, some with stinging tubes..."

"Humans?"

"How strange..."

OOC: Blehhh, enough for now... must hurry off to work now...
PostPosted: Wed Aug 15, 2007 12:28 pm

OOC: I hate double posting but in order to get things moving...

"So you have ever gone fishing?" The captain asked sitting on the prow with Belle as he demonstrated the usage of a rod and reel. The boat had a net over the side to catch enough for the crew and also to appear as a somewhat legitimate business on dry land, but the captain generally enjoyed fishing the old fashioned way when there was a lull in activity.

"No." The little girl replied, trying to hook a struggling worm on the hook without hooking herself.

"If you do not object to my asking... what was your father like..." The capatin regarded her carefully fully aware of the fact he was directly responsible for the death of the man in question and how recently the loss had occured.

Belle took on a quite contemplative look. "I can't really say..." She muttered after a time. "He was never really home... and when he was...well, it was like he wasn't there at all...or worse he'd be drunk...yelling and sceaming at mom..." She sighed blinking hard as rough imagery reinterrupted her train of thought. "They were going to a marriage counselor lately, and the lady said we should all take a trip together. I dont think it helped any. I was brought up by a series of nannies... sometimes it felt like I was the one taking care of my mom... They were part of the cartels you know. My mom was a user my dad the dealer. He made her go cold turky while she was pregnant according to the housekeeper, they kept her tied in bed. He thought he was getting a son... But they got me instead. Mom was too much of a basket case to even know who I was half the time, she'd just lay around baking in the'

The captain was quiet face hidden under a hat he had donned. He was almost sorry he'd asked. Finally he spoke in turn. "I think I'll tell you my story then... I suppose I should not have asked but sooner or later these things are found out besides... My father was a pirate before me, naturally, a rather surly frenchman, though I am told he was quite handsome in younger years. My mother was an english lady, her family wasn't quite noble enough to be titled but they were reasonably well off in society. They were going to marry my mother off to some titled Lord, but my father found her first. He took her claimed her, and I was the result, though my father had long since left her in the dust alone. She'd been married off to the man nonetheless, and they did their best to shush any word of me or my father. I too was raised mostly by a woman not my mother, though apparently she cared enough to leave her belongings to me and not her husband, after she died. It was about then I finally got to meet my father..." The captain made a face. "He took me in as a cabin boy, and everytime he was drunk ... well I took the brunt of it... In the end, I killed him, and took his place. I've replaced the crew from that time, but I don't think anyone sticks around my ship longer than a few years at a time besides, simply because in this business you need to keep changing everything to be forgotten."

"How long have you been captain..?" Belle asked, fixing her bright luminous eyes on the man.

The captain was very grimly silent. "Eighteen years..."

"So... you're how old?"

"...I'm almost thirty five now..." The weary tone in which he stated the fact was almost ashamed. "I expect that one of these days, it'll be my throat cut and a new captain will seize conrol. If I'm lucky, I might have a son myself one day to do that for me. About the best I can hope for..."

OOC: So optomistic you see.

"See you're getting it..."

"Yes, just close your mouth on them, and push out the water with your tongue."

"Then swallow them up on the surface." The great whales coaxed, demonstrating the way they filtered krill through their baleen. Orkis was having a less bountiful time of it, but still managed to get one good mouthful at a time. She wondered at this new food source concept. It was rather the most interesting meal she had eaten. It tickled and was rough and salty, but not altogether unappetizing.

After dining to their fills, the whales began to speak business. "Soon will come the time to migrate again to warmer waters, where our calfs may be born and new calves created... Would you join us on that journey? It may be dangerous for you, as your blubber reserves are not well founded, but in warmer waters you will need less. And perhaps you will find food of a different sort... You would be safer among us from the Orca whales, but we would ask that you help defend our young if they were to appear. Also there may be sharks or humans that might prey upon us..."

"I'll go." Orkis chirruped. "I do not wish to travel alone."
