Tay walked with a lively spring in each step, her head held high as she pranced along beside the path, her tail swishing every now and then, which only made her look all the more smug as she jaunted her way along. Why she was walking beside the well-worn path was a mystery to anyone, and one could only guess what it was exactly that made her look so proud of herself. Every so often the filly would stop and strike a pose of some sort, or so it seemed, before continuing along on her way.

As she walked, she hummed softly to herself, notes that rose perfectly to the pitch. But the music was for her ears, and for her ears only. She didn't sound all that wonderful, at least to herself, and she refused to let anyone hear her humming. Ever.

Duranjaya, though he more often than not would shorten his name to Duran even in company he knew, had no real knowledge of where he was, aside from how far it was from his teepee. But, because he knew the distance, he wasn't too worried. He was excited really. Maybe he'd meet a friend! The idea made him jump and kick his back legs, excitement coursing through him, until he hit the ground rather gracelessly, head first into a small bit of soft dirt nearby.

He pulled his head up from the mud, and shook his head, flinging bits of dirt from his face. Snorting a little, he stood up carefully and looked around for the spot where the ground must have obviously lifted to make him fall. It wasn't his fault at all, the ground was just playing tricks on him.

Seeing no break in the ground, he snorted, and looked around again curiously, starting to walk down a worn path he spotted. Not too far down the path, he saw something. Someone. Sniffing, he grinned, and started to trot down the path. "Hi!" He greeted, obviously very enthused to see someone new.

Well, now there was just something familiar about that voice, and she couldn't quite put a tag on it. Perhaps it was the sun. In any case, it always annoyed Tay when she couldn't figure something out. Her brow creased in concentration. Where... She just couldn't place the voice. She swung around and trotted back up the path she had just come, still walking along beside it, rather than on it. "Who's out there?" She called out curiously, frowning as she tried to make out the brown shape in the distance. There was something familiar about that, too, and still she couldn't quite place it. Perhaps it was the morning air. She'd have to rethink just how much she liked coming out in the morning after this, oh yes she would.

She was so concentrated on the figure up the path that she didn't see the small dip in the ground she had hopped over only moments before, and she tripped as her hoof fell into the dip, lurching forward with a quiet 'umph'. In an attempt to save herself some dignity, she shoved off with her hind legs and locked her front legs, almost hurling herself out of the stumble. As a result, she ended up executing a strange little jump with her legs stretched straight out.

Duranjaya lifted an eyebrow slowly when he witnessed a very ODD type of leaping, and he picked up his speed, running towards the figure. He slowed once he could make out the figure a little more clearly, and snorted again, walking towards the stranger cautiously.

"Are you okay?" He called from his distance, quirking a small grin, in case it COULD be made out. Duran couldn't help that it was funny how the stranger had leapt to avoid a rather disastrous fall. He stopped once he was close enough to make the person out and frowned curiously. "What's your name?" He asked, tilting his head and appraising the Soquili in front of him curiously.

"Yes!" She said promptly. If there was anything Tay didn't like, it was not being okay. "I'm fine!" She shook herself and drew herself up to her full height, hoping to regain some lost dignity that way. She shot a mutinous glance back at the little dip in the land. So what if all it had done was bruise her pride a little? It was a safety hazard, that was what it was!

"Oh!" Her gaze returned from glaring at the little ditch. "Tay- Tayook, really, but Tay. Just Tay." She said the last almost firmly, as if she disliked her full name. And she did dislike her full name. It sounded like an owl's hoot at night. And she really didn't like owls all that much. She had always wondered why she would be named after a sound an animal made. Perhaps nothing else went with Tay? Well she would have been fine with a single-syllable name...

Duranjaya grinned slowly, amused, and nodded, letting the question go. If she wanted to be okay, who was he to deny that of her? He straightened himself up, amused, and looked over Tay again curiously. Then he realized that she was glancing back, and he too looked past her to see a dip in the round. "Stupid ground. Made me trip, too." He nodded sagely.

Duran grinned even wider upon hearing her name, and nodded his head twice. "I'm Duran." He said, beaming. "Duranjaya, but I like Duran better." Duran just thought Duranjaya was a mouthful to say, and besides... Duran was cooler. At least, in his opinion. "It's nice to meet you, Tay." He beamed. "Whatcha doin'?" He asked.

It didn't really dawn on Duran that, well... She seemed to be just walking along, and was now standing in front of him after a near-fall. Nooot a bit.

Well, being not okay wasn't cool, but at least he didn't seem to be focusing too much on it, which calmed Tay down considerably. "They should ban things like that from existing." She said contemptuously, shooting one last glare at the little dip in the ground. How was that little thing going to make her trip and look stupid?!

"Uh, well... Nothing, really." She looked Duran up and down for a moment. And then it hit her. "You look like me..." How lame that must have sounded, but it was true! He did look like her. His eyes were the same color as hers, and he might have been a brighter brown than herself, but he did look like her. If she squinted and tilted her head to the side a little, she could almost even see similarities between his face and her own. Which was really strange... She blinked in confusion. If she had been older and had more sense, perhaps she might have figured it out. As it was, she simply stood, almost in awe of what she had discovered.

Duran would probably have noticed MUCH later than Tay that they looked alike, but when she mentioned it... He tilted his head curiously, and stared at her for a minute. Then he grinned, wide as ever. "We do!" He exclaimed, taking a minute to circle her and check out her legs. He looked at his, then back at hers, then back at his...

Duran did this a couple more times, and then looked at her. "We're not twins though, 'cos our legs're different. Seeee?" He held out his foreleg, with the odd white pattern up past his stockings, and then he grinned. "Cool, innit?" He asked, absolutely amused. She looked like him! Were there others who looked like him too?

"Wonder if there're more of us..." He mused.

"Well, yea." She saw what he meant. She had black on her legts and he didn't. But that didn't make all too much difference. At first glance, she would have thought the two of them were something like twins. In fact, had Duran not mentioned it, she may not have even come to notice that small difference. "Plus you have little splotch thingies." She added with a sage look in her eyes. "And our hooves are different, a little." She stuck out her right forehoof, the single silver one.

"'Us'?" Her eyes widened in alarm. It sounded strange. "What do you mean?" The first notion that popped into her head was that of some strange and foreign being. She wasn't a freak, now was she?! Although she supposed there was room to argue on that. She didn't like girls. And supposedly, she herself was one. The thought had always amused her. How could she be a girl when being a guy was so much more fun? The world was not fair, no.

He nodded, and looked at his splotches, swishing his tail absently. Then he looked at her single silver hoof, and grinned. "That's pretty." He said after a thoughtful second, nodding. "It's silvery." Duran beamed at Tay.

At Tay's alarmed glance, Duran quickly tried to fix his sentence. "I mean... Y'know. Like us." He stood next to her, as if that'd convince her. "Y'know. Our colors and looks like us an' stuff." He tried to appease her, beaming. "Like with your pretty hoof and my splotches!" He beamed.

Duran couldn't figure out why he felt the urge well up to appease her, but who was he to argue, right?

"Oh, okay..." She said uncertainly, still feeling a certain amount of alarm coursing through her. She withdrew her hoof with a grin. "Thanks! It's so different." She added, more to herself than anything.

"Oh, well... I think there might be," She bobbed her head. "At least, our parents, right? Maybe we're related," She said, more as a joke than anything. She never would have guessed that she might have been right. She waggled her tail a little - she was still at that stage when her tail hadn't quite gotten too long, and she could still waggling it a little out of joy whenever she felt like it.

Happy to have at least put some of Tay's doubts to rest, Duran bounced in place, something he did when he was happy. Which meant that Duran bounced. ... A lot. He grinned, and flicked his tail. "I don't think it's different." He shrugged. "It's still pretty." He beamed.

Duran stopped bouncing long enough to think about this, and then grinned slowly, and nodded. "Could be! That'd be kinda funny, wouldn't it? Who knows, maybe you're my twin!" He flicked his tail, bouncing again and giggling. "But obviously we're not total twins, 'cos... Well. We don't look totally alike." He nodded sagely.

"I guess so," She said with a smile, watching him bounce up and down in place. Sometimes, she wondered if she would ever get to take on a strange personality quirk. Obviously, she hadn't so far. "Different is good though." She added with a smug look. If the world had been made of sameness, she would have gone to the ends of the world just to be that one speck of different in a sea of sameness.

"That really would be!" She agreed with a small laugh. "We can still say we're twins, y'know!" She joked. They sure did look close enough to be twins. She waggled her tail again, and this time she took the time to look back at it to see what it was doing. It had grown so much since she had come out of her basket that by now, it had been reduced from being a full tail wag to simply a wag until about halfway down the tail, and then the rest of the way down, the long fur danced and jerked about as if it had a life of its own. It almost made her laugh.

Duran grinned, and even giggled a little when he saw Tay waggle her tail. He glanced back at his and tried the same motion. He was pleased with the result, but it just wasn't the same. Shaking his head and nickering lightly, he started to bounce again, watching Tay.

"Y'know what we should do?" He stopped bouncing, and looked around. "We should explore! I mean, I don't know anything about this place, 'cept how far it is to get back home and that's only 'cos I kept track." Sort of. "I think it'd be fun. We could find all sorts of stuff!"

She nodded enthusiastically at the suggestion. "Oh, definitely!" She bobbed her head and waggled her tail again. It was just so fun! With a pang, she realized she had no idea just how far from home she was, and as much as she wanted to say it didn't matter, she knew that it did matter. At the moment, she was Chayton's only Soquili, and she knew without having to ask anyone just how important she was to him, just as he was important to her. After all, he was all the family she had known, although she knew she had parents and siblings.

"What do you want to explore? We could go further down the road. There might be something interesting down there!" She grinned and looked down the path, which streched on in the distance until the two sides converged and met at a point on the horizon.
