Has anyone ever read any of the Sandman comics? They're fabulous, and written by one of the greatest writers of the time, Neil Gaiman. He's written Anansi Boys and the screen play for Mirrormask, a Jim Henson film in the tradition of Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal.
Sandman follows the journeys of Dream, one of the Endless. Endless aren't gods. They were here before them, and will be here long afterward. I have a particular love for Death, who is fabulously hyper. I mean, in her first appearance, she discusses Mary Poppins!! She's always trying to lighten up her younger brother.

To learn more, visit http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Zone/9923/sandman.html, The Sandman Official Fansite.
This gives you an overview of the storylines and plots. If you do become interested, I suggest you start off with The Absolute Sandman Vol. 1. It's expensive and heavy, but well worth it! It is definitely cheaper and less of a hassle than trying to find/buy the volumes themselves. You can buy it at www.neilgaiman.com, the author's home site!

The Endless are certainly an intriguing family, to say the least. I do love how they were never born and cannot pass away, as thus, and I have to agree with your favorite, of course. ^-^
May Neil Gaiman's imagination never falter, for this would truly be a sad day.

*is in the midst of writing an Endless/Organization XIII crossover fanfic*
It's a very strange feeling to surround myself with a computer full of cutscenes and most of the Sandman anthologies and books and do research like I'm in college again. 3nodding
