Lately I've been going through my little pile of books and surfing some of the astrology links provided in the group, but I'm not very successful in my journey.

You see, I've been translating those fun little symbols of aspects (sextile, square, trine, etc.) And then reading about them and making notes, comparing and making my own result.

Then I come upon things like quincunx, semisquare/sesquiquadrate, and other ones known as 'minor' aspects.

I understand that they don't have as much influence as a major aspect, but I'm confused as how to translate them..

In one of my books by Janis Huntley, I come across a chapter of Unaspected planets. It says:

Janis Huntley
"A planet that does not form any of the major seven aspects with another planet is said to be 'unaspected' and therefore operates on a level of pure energy. When a planet makes an aspect with another planet, their combined energies blend if it is an easy aspect, or are forced into combat if it is a difficult one and thus form a new composite energy. Unaspected planets do not form new combined energies and can therefore manifest freely."

My question is, after reading that, do minor aspects just not count at all? Why is it so hard to find more than a couple sentences on a minor aspected planet(s)? If Minors do count, what is the different of the influence of the energy in the planets as compared to an 'unaspected' planet?

That doesn't sound quite right...I don't know much about this at all, but if an aspect is so minor as to be considered meaningless, then what's the point in even noting that it's there?

Good luck working this out!

I was just reading an astrologer's blog an they were asking nearly the same question! Apparently minor aspects are usually not taken into account by most astrologers and are used as auxiliary or supplementary information rather than being viewed as a major contributing factor in a chart. However, there are astrologers that swear that those aspects are just as powerful and important as the major aspects. And, of course, what those aspects actually are is a question too. Some astrologers use orbs of 8 degrees, some only one or two, and some change it for every aspect. So basically, like many things in astrology, it's up to the individual practitioner.

For more about this sort of stuff and to see what astrologers are talking about, I love this site. It's a compilation of astrology blogs and it's updated every day. 3nodding

I finally found an answer that I can live with. 3nodding

I've been asking these questions to an astrologer I have high respects for and it's been an interesting conversation. Here's what he said:

Der Baron
There is a great deal of thinking and talking about minor and major aspects. One simple division is that while a major aspects tend to create both internal (psychological) AND external (events) effects, minor aspects seem to resonate primarily only internally.
I would feel free to use minor aspects when assessing a person's psychological structure, but remember that major aspects are far more powerful. It's a matter of magnitude.

When you are predicting something objective, like when person is getting married (or not), most astrological systems only use classical aspects with very tight orbs. Minor aspects are generally not considered for predictive astrology.
