Puranick has asked me to give some basic rules and guidelines for RPing, just in case you aren't sure how, or what to do. SO this will give that sort of information. I will also set up a sample RP and give a first post just so you get the hang of it. If you all decide you like that particular RP, feel free to join in. If there are any questions that I haven't answered below, you are always welcome to PM me with specific questions. And if you'd like a bit of help one your first one or two, just to get it going, I don't mind doing that either.

Frist let's get the rules out of the way.

1. Follow Gaia TOS and guild rules.
2. No God Modding (That would be making your character all powerful, or unable to die.)
3. Respect the RP creator's personal rules and judgements.
4. Keep it PG 13.
5. PM profiles to RP creators.
(others may be added as needed, so check back)

Ok, now we have basic RP rules for the guld, let's get to building some RPs shall we.

Some peole are intimidated by the though of having to create a whole world for their charcters to roam in. If that's the case, you could always fall back on an RP based in a world already known to many people, for example, an Rp based on a movie, book, or video game. THese can be a lot of fun, but be careful that you aren't limitted by the number of characters people will want to play.

Assuming you feel up to the challenge of creating your own world, there are some easy steps to starting up an RP.
1. THink of a theme or setting for your RP. I'll choose a magical theme for the sample. So an appropriate setting would be something like a midieval castle, or another world where magic is common.
2. Think of a basic story line. This doesn't have be in depth or anything, just something to get the ball rolling. In the sample We'll go with the generic "being attacked by evil forces" sort of thing. DOn't make the story too specific, it will prevent free play. I should mention that some RPs just give a sort of "history of the world" this is kind of a description of the place, and lacks any certain story. This lends well to an open RP where characters can play shop keeper and bar owners without worrying about needing to go on an adventure. These RPs can be fun because it becmes something of a soap apera in a town your characters build.
3. THe story will pretty much write itself. Here you may want to come up with a few basic rules to keep people in line. They could be about what race of character people can play, or what kind of weapons they can have, or if you can be a bad guy or not. Try to keep people in line without stifling them.
4. Last is the profile. I'll post a generic one you can use for pretty much anything. The creator should have the first profile (and the first in character post) on the page. So you'll want to develop a character for your RP. Try to give them a vague, but informative history.SOme of the fun of RPing is developing your character. I'll give a couple of examples in the sample.

Profile:
Username:
Character name:
Age:
Appearance: (picture or description)
Bio:
(The one below are a little more specific to certain RPS)
Race: (Human, elf, orc, Vulcan)
Power/Ability:
Weapon:
and the list goes on.

SO now that we've gone through it all and I've bored you witless, go check out the sample if you need clarification, then try your hand at an RP or two of your own. I'll be interested to see them.

EXTRAS:

This stuff isn't so important, its just some random tips I think you might find helpful. As I get questions or whatever, I'll add stuff to this list, so you may want to check back in.

1. I put all the introduction in one post. THat's just so my important stuff doesn't get broken up if someone comes in and posts before I'm done. And in case I want to edit, I won't have to go looking for the post. But you don't have to do it, you can break the story and the rules and the profiles all up if you want. That's just my style.

2. For you character, try not to make the bio too Mary-Sueish (generic and boring). The one in the sample is, but that's mostly because I have a horrible imaginations.

3. If you want a picture for your appearance. I suggest going to photobucket.com and looking one up in the search bar. You don't need an account, but they are useful for putting your own images on gaia. Once you find the pic you want, just click on it to get the full sized view and copy and paste the image code. easy peasy.

4. If you don't think something about a profile is fair or right, don't be afraid to POLITELY say so to the person who submitted it to you. We want this to be fair and fun. But don't tell them to change something just because you don't like it, there should be a reason behind it.

5. As you get more experienced in RPing you can make them more indepth. You could add a levelling up system that you would have to monitor, or use dice/random numbers for a battle system. This is all up to you, but I wouldn't go straight into that on your first one.

6. Love interests are not a bad thing. They can help with character development and plot twists. ANd just because your RPing someones love doesn't mean you have to actually like them, or date them, its just something new to try. But PLEASE if you choose to do this there is absolutely NO CYBERING in the forums. Yuck.
