I've started a list of games that I have played, feel free to add to it!

Playstation 2:
God of War/God of War II - Follow the story of a Spartan warrior named Kratos, who has run afoul of Aries. Cited as two of the best Playstation 2 titles.

PC:
Age of Empires (and its expansion The Rise of Rome) - Pick a civilization, build the civilization, conquer stuff, build Wonders, you name it. This is a classic.

Rome: Total War (and its expansions Barbarian Invasion and Alexander) - Pick a faction family [either the Brutii, Julii, or Scipii] and rule them to build the Roman Empire. Features battles in full 3D. Very cool, sacking Carthage is always fun.

Zeus: Master of Olympus (and its expansion Poseidon: Master of Atlantis) - Build a Greek city-state and manage it.

From the same company as Zeus: Pharaoh and the expansion Cleopatra (Egyptian dynasties and cities), and Caesar III (Roman cities)

There are many others that I have failed to mention. I will also provide links for these games when it is not 11:30 at night.

Please share your thoughts!

And WarCraft III, which is just an awesome game. I know it's based on the ancient world, cause there's like, archers and swords and stuff.

But seriously, I'd include AoE II, and maybe Civilization, if you're a fan of turn -based strategy (I'm not).

Used to be a company in New York, SPI, that had a series of board games ( eek ) going back to Ancient Egypt. That one was called Chariot, then there was Phalanx and Legion. There was one on medieval battles, too. You had a set of units, infantry, cavalry, etc., of varying degrees, and the instructions told you how many of each and where to set them up on the generalized hexagon map. I've spent many enjoyable hours playing those.

They also had a solitaire game on the Roman Empire, where the barbarians were generated by rolling dice and had set paths to follow, and various conditions would cause legions to revolt. That one was lots of fun, too.

I'm going to be old school as hell and suggest the Sega Genesis/Arcade Game Altered Beast.

It's a must. smile

I also have to suggest Eternal Darkness; Sanity's Requiem. Even though there's only one level where you play as a Roman Centurion, it doesn't matter.

It's amazing.

Europa Barbarorum.

It's a mod for Rome Total War that more then doubles the size of the map, adds a huge amount of new units and several new factions.

Yes, I was quite impressed with this mod! It's quite professional, along the lines of Black Mesa (formerly Black Mesa Source) for Half-Life 2.

Good show!

Civ City: Rome

This is very micromanagement-heavy, and with a move & zoom 3D environment, it teems with life. My favorite moment was building my first subura and watching all of those plebs swarm between their myriad shops and their dwellings above. It looked like something right out of HBO's Rome blaugh
