The String of Pearls Thread
Welcome to the official thread for the String of Pearls, the penny dreadful published by Edward Lloyd. This is for discussion of the characters and the plot of the penny dreadful only. However, if you would like to compare characters from the musical with their SoP counterparts, it's perfectly acceptable to bring up the musical.

Yay, first post in the SoP thread.
Here's something to think about: I'm sure that one twisted girl had a crush on Sweeney at the time it was written. Most people were horrified by him, but hey, it takes all kinds. Maybe she had a curly hair fetish, maybe she liked villains, maybe his physical description reminded her of someone she fancied. But don't you think so?

Also, have you ever noticed that Sweeney is always catching Toby because TOBY SAYS FREAKIN EVERYTHING OUT LOUD?

When Sweeney said that he was "a poor orphan too", am I the only one who got an image of Little Orphan Sweeney huddling in an alley somewhere? sad

Yes, there's a play with the title. It's gotten decent reviews, but so far it doesn't appear to be anything particularly amazing. It has nothing to do with the penny though.
Other than that, I don't have much to say on SoP. I got halfway through it one night, lost my place, and got too frustrated to find it again. I particularly loved how the cover said "24 pages of sensational romance with magnificent large coloured picture presented gratis." That's an attention-grabber. ;D

I did like the book.
I loved the show.
And then the movie.

I just got it yesterday, and I'm about half-way through it.
Poor Toby! Sweeney is horrible to him. D: (But he still retains his bad-a** factor . . . )

I'm like halfway through it right now. its really good. but i think its weird how Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney keep like zero contact at all. I just thought they would at least talk to each other a little you know...
