1. Do not post here unless you are one of the following: ~ La Karasu (creator of the Ieldi) ~ the current owner of an Ieldi ~ Neith-Kia ~ Dark Fire Angel
If you have a gift, please PM it to me, as there is no shelf left to leave it on.
2. Please do not ask to buy my Ieldi. He is not for sale. Go stalk the Ieldi HQ thread.
3. Please do not ask to buy or have first dibs on my Ieldi's offspring. a) I have no idea when he'll grow up, or b) if he'll be successful in courting a mate. Besides, I'm not about to be bought off. I don't know what I'll be doing with any possible future offspring. I'll decide if and when it happens.
4. Please do not ask me if/when Ieldi are available. I have no clue. Go stalk the Ieldi HQ thread.
5. Please do not continually PM me about any of the above, or playdates, etc. My inbox is rather full from other things. If you really want to ask about visiting, etc. please try and catch me in the HQ thread before PMing me.
6. Um.. not quite a rule but... Kali in this thread is not Kali from Fa'e HQ. Please do not mention Roth and that Kali's background. I think me here will be more based me in RL. Must do profile.
The Ieldi concept, background, and artwork @ La Karasu~. No stealy domokun This particular Ieldi, Zayn, is mine. No stealy domokun

 Kali
An amateur bird watcher from an early age, Kali leapt at the chance to attract and raise an Ieldi. Although it means no cats around the place, she had already left her cats behind to travel. And something like an Ieldi for a cat was a great replacement, in her eyes.
Kali fancies herself a bit of an artist in her spare time. Maybe she was a little biased in setting out art supplies for a spirit. She can't complain that she did attract an artistic spirit with it though.
Never really the maternal sort, Kali is looking forward to the chance to be a 'mother' (especially since she doesn't have to give birth or anything ^_~ ).

08-05-04 - Picked my shelf and visited it for the first time whee
12-05-04 - My relic arrived! heart Rasu left it in HQ and I carried it up to the shelf.
16-05-04 - A spirit began to hover around my relic and shelf eek
05-12-04 - Valesti attacked the tree. The relic and I escaped with the aid of Chronos. Sadly, the tree itself could not be saved. crying
06-12-04 - I awoke to find my relic going crazy. Zayn was reborn heart and overcame a very slight fear of the ground. That can't be normal?
'Red feather days' is based on the phrase 'red letter', which basically means an important thing that stood out.

Name Zayn - Arabic for "beauty", though in this case it is more as a lover or creator of beauty than for being any great looker himself.
Appearance Zayn is male and rather average in height and weight. He has no real muscle, but is fairly lean as his habits often mean he forgets to eat or burns off his food in a burst of creative energy.
His wings are round but tapered (kind of fat-leaf shaped, as if they should be called stubby, but the length prevents it) and the wings are slightly shorter than his body length. His wings are bright red at the back/shoulders, fading to gold about halfway down the wing and the very bottom edge is tipped in black. His wings are connected to his shoulder blades, rather than his arms, so he is not the best at flying. His tail is about 3/4 the length of his wings and is coloured mostly the same as the wings, only with slightly less red at the top, and the black edging at the bottom is thicker and in 'w' pattern. His plumage is not overly wide or fan-like, somewhere between fan-like and stick-straight. He tends to have his tail pulled close together (width-wise) when walking, but when resting or overly caught up in his art, it will splay out more. Zayn's tail tends to droop, except when courting. When courting, both his wings and tail would be extended to their maximum length, and the tail raised to its maximum height (rather like a wren).
Bright red in colour, Zayn's hair is mostly short and wispy, melding into the feathers of his wings at the back. His front bangs are longer than the rest, falling past his chin. Small feathers expand from his wings to cover his shoulders and the area around the wings themselves with a downy-like substance. The same effect takes place around his tail, though to a slightly lesser degree. The down gives way to dark gold skin. Zayn's skin fades from dark gold into black at his hands and feet.
Additionally, on his face, black markings curve down from his temples to the corners of his eyes (like the face markings on a regent bowerbird - see the pic in the Bird section). Serious and calm, Zayn's eyes are dark red in colour and thinly edged in black. (Kind of like kohl eyeliner, but in reality they're just more natural markings of the bowerbird.)
With his separate (not on his arms) wings, Zayn isn't much of a flyer, so can mostly be found in robe, rather than flight clothes. He has two main sets of clothes - work/art clothes and social clothes. His social clothes are generally bright and festive, in colours designed to set off his red-and-gold plumage. As an artist, he ensures that nothing clashes or looks garish. His work clothes are more simple in cut and are made from rougher fabrics in subdued colours. Zayn is well aware of how messy his art can be and several tongue-lashings from his mother at a young age impressed on him the need to wear less expensive clothes when painting or sculpting.
Zayn's clothing tends to be almost toga-like, though sometimes with loose pants on underneath and shorter togas, and sometimes just the long robes themselves. When painting, he will often go without a shirt and just wear pants, or wear a loose mid-length toga to allow for movement when rushing back and forth between his art materials.
Life Before he became a spirit, Zayn was a young adult living in a rather small village - not childish but not responsible enough to have been an adult or elder either.
Although he had a family - parents and a younger sister, Zayn moved out on his own in order to have his own space for his artworks. As the village artisan, he made necessities such as plates, bowls, vases, etc. but above all he loved to make sculptures and paintings - his 'true' art in which he could capture true beauty and express his creativity.
He kept mostly to himself when in a creative mood, not leaving his house and often forgetting to eat, consumed with his work. He loved beauty in all forms, but especially those of nature and various art forms (painting, sculpture, poetry, dancing). He tended to focus on the painting and sculpting for himself, but liked to watch of listen to the others.
Although not the most social of creatures, he was still rather well-known in his small village. On the rare occasions he attend social gatherings, he was content to observe the happenings around him, unless discussions turned to art or subjects he felt passionately about. At these times, he lit up and became very animated as he spoke - he could be quite the charmer, when he put his mind to it (but that wasn't often).
He also had small tendencies to "borrow'" items that didn't belong to him, but it happened rarely and he tended to undercharge for his services as an artisan, so most people let it slide. When pressed, he would return the items and mend his ways for a time but he always seemed to slip back into this bad habit as easily as he continued his art.
Preferring his own village, he still managed to travel several times in his life. Most of the time, he was convinced to travel with or by his family, who used the argument that he should see what forms of art were present in other villages or cities. Needless to say, after his visits to other places that he had no particular ties to, people would notice several bright or sparkling objects had gone missing... Zayn's family eventually caught on and stopped inviting him to travel with them.
Zayn was happy with his life, even if his family wished they could change certain things about him. Although a late bloomer, Zayn eventually realised he wanted someone else in his life. He was in the process of courting a lovely songstress when disaster struck and the Beast was released.
Personality He is rather solitary if left to himself - a bit absentminded, able to get caught up in his work and forget he should be eating, cleaning, going outside and meeting others. He's not shy by nature but is a bit reticent until you get onto a subject he feels passionately about.
He loves beautiful things, especially creating them or capturing them in an artistic manner (although he can sometimes also have light-fingered tendencies ^^;; ) If he decides he wants something, he'll do just about anything to get it. He'd be very demonstrative when courting, or trying to sway people to his point of view.
For a lover of beautiful things, he prefers his art and nature to any sort of material wealth or possessions (his kleptomania seems more an inborn instinct than any true desire for the objects themselves).
He can be very messy at times, leaving his art supplies lying around his house and forgetting to clean paint off his hands or face before it dries. He's the kind of person who makes you think someone really ought to be looking after him.
Bird Zayn would become a flame bowerbird - bowerbirds live mostly in the Australasian area. They like to collect bright objects to build their gravity-defying bowers (nests) and to woo their female mates with. They are rather solitary except for when courting - their courting dance is said to be one of the most elaborate and beautiful of all birds. Flame bowerbirds are mostly bright red and yellow/gold with hints of black.

Ieldi The first thing that appeals to me about the Ieldi are that they are RP-based pets. I much prefer RPing on boards as it gives me a reason to keep coming back and keeps the board fun and interesting. I must admit part of the interest is also Rasu's art - what is better than an RP character than an RP character that also has gorgeous art? (Must have Rasu's art ) I was a bit of a birdwatcher as a kid (though that was kind of ruined by pestering my parent enough that they gave me a cat ^^;; ), so it's an added bonus to find a pet based solely on birds and that gives me a chance to use a bird that has interesting traits (thieving, elaborate courtship, etc.) and isn't so widely known out of its own preferred region. Journal Dear Diary, ... I need to start paying more attention to all those paint ads on tv about child-proof paint. I thought it would be nice to let Zayn play with my old paints and markers - he really is quite talented for a kid, much better than I was at his age. However, Zayn had other ideas. Namely that the walls were too plain. So now Rasu's nice room is covered in still-wet paint that managed to find its way from the paintbrush and walls to the floor, the furniture and even the roof! o.O To give him credit, it's very colourful and has the potential to be a gorgeous mural (if he were older and had his talents developed just a bit more). However, I really doubt it's what Rasu had in mind for this place ^^;; He looked so pleased, I wasn't sure how to break it to him... I eventually just came out and said that he couldn't do something like that to Rasu's - or anyone's - place without asking them. So far so good. And then I told him we'd have to clean it off. I have never felt so bad in my life, not even when accidently stepping on a small animal. You should have seen his little face crumble, as if I'd broken his heart or told him he could never paint again. Desperate for him to stop his silent crying, I told him he could decorate my place. Just what have I gotten myself (and my house) into? -_-;;
