Some people I know claim to be fans, but don't really go to any extremes to prove their adoration. I mean, there are some crazy otakus out there . . . but would you ever do something crazy to show your love for an anime character?
P.S. I am not telling you to do crazy things! I am just curious about how far some people will go . . .

As to the topic of this thread:
I would never do something more than to draw fanart of my favourite character, because frankly, what else can I do? I admire/adore a fictional person, who will never see my existence, so what am I supposed to do without seeming obsessed? The furthest I have gone, is made a Gaara plushie and a keychain.
I apologise if my tone is rather hostile, but I am in a lot of pain while typing this.

I must say, Gaara is my favorite character in Naruto, but I'm not going to go around claiming my love for him or anything.
He's just a cartoon and I have a life rolleyes

Hmmm something crazy to show the love for an anime character... ahh does running after a guy with a Gaara shirt on count..XD.. yeah I did that today... gonk I scared the poor thing!!..Lol.. he's like OMGG!!! whats your problemm.. stop chasing me!.. And I kept screaming GAARA!!!... Lol it was pretty funny =]..lol.. What a sin tho, I dont think he'll ever talk to me again xp

Even though I absolutely adore Gaara, I would never actually do anything crazy. I'm one of those fans who, for the most part, keep to themselves. It's not like I freak out when I see someone else with anything related to Gaara; I don't even go to conventions.
I don't feel like you have to prove your love to anyone; I believe that if you really like a character and care about them enough than you are a fan, and buying merchandise or doing crazy things doesn't make you anymore of a fan. Sure, I wear a Gaara shirt (which I plan to wear this Monday for my AP Physics exam as I'm going to need the happiness boost it gives me) and write fanfiction, but that's normal fan stuff. It makes me happy and allows me to have fun being a Gaara fan. That's all that matters.

I pretty much agree with Autumn Lullaby on all counts. I'm introverted by nature, so even if someone walked aroudn wearing a sign that said, "I love Gaara. Come talk to me if you do, too," I still wouldn't do anything. My otaku-ness extends to the point that I have more pictures of Gaara than all the other Naruto characters combined, but I keep my obsession to myself.
BTW, AP Physics? Nice! I had AP US History and AP English III. I could've used some Gaara-ness to chill me out before those tests!

My obsession does have its limits. XD I can't really 'love' someone[thing] that doesn't fully exist. I would probably be reluctant to do certain things, because my attitude changes all the while.
Although, my inner self would probably do ALMOST anything, if he were a living being....
But I do have my limits. I love Gaara, but I'm still contradicting myself with logic. XD

I daydream A LOT about him... sweatdrop I would also, when I get it, dress up in my cosplay as much as I can. Especially in the mall! lol I'm also, slowly, writing a fanfiction. And sometimes I rp as Gaara-kun. ninja

yeah i daydream about adventures i would have myself if i was a naruto character.............and they sometimes (most of the time) end in a uke Gaara.mow idk if hed be uke in real life but its my imagination DAMMIT! But anywho i dont get alot of money....ever....however i am bleachong my hair of its clor so i can make my hair the same!!! but im not cutting it any shorter than it already is. but i get gaara paraphenilia when i can. and yes im aware i spelled paraphernalia wrong.

I love him. As many of the other people stated, he is a fictional character and they have lives...But...
I'm beginning to doubt that I do have a life. At least, one worth living. >>;
As much as he is a fictional character, I hold the strong belief that he is, infact, Jesus. x3
Hm...lets put it this way. If someone insulted Gaara infront of me, I'd stick my Gaara chibi keychain infront of their face, and force them to apologize to it.
But, I wouldn't feel the need to 'prove my love' for him, because I do love him, very much, and nothing else matters. >.<;

So think. If you are an obsessive religious nutjob (I'm athiest), and your god/savior/Jesus-equivilent/anime-fandom blew you up, there's a strong case scenario that you'd still love him/her/whatever. Infact, you'd probably say that said God/Jesus/savior had called you to your judgement day. And you'd love him/her/whatever for it.
Assuming that you'd still be alive, of course. Which you wouldn't.

Everytime I make bulletins/billboards/flyers/posters for NAHS or my Media 1 class, I sneak chibi-tanuki tailed Gaara into the picture. I always wear a ball necklace with little fobs hanging off with pictures of Gaara on them.
And everyone calls me Gaara now, even the band kids sweatdrop
I went as far as putting eyeliner on my boyfriend once xp
