I was watching OSR episode 12 last night, the one where Rick tells Eva that she should tell Don Wei who she really is(just before he wonders off to solve crimes xd )
So she tries to take his advice, but Don goes and screws it all up by bringing up his daughter in front of her. So, true to Molly form, she shouts at him, and he, to true Don Wei form, is oblivious as to why she's upset...
He needs to read between the lines, seriously...Why could she possibly be so upset that he hadn't seen his daughter 'as much as he would have liked' and that he doesn't think he should see her again when he returns to Earth... To say nothing of the fact that she looks much the same as she did when she was five, with exception of her tatoos and her hair dye... :XP:
*sighs* Well, I had to get that little mini-rant out of my system...Got any Don Wei rants you'd like to share yourself? biggrin

P'shaw, I know! surprised
I mean, true, Savin reasons that the trends of tatoos grew in populatrity in the mid-twentieth century according to the story, but still, the design Eva chose to match her mom shouldn't be as popular as the trend itself. neutral
I mean perhaps there's still Maya fangirls lurking about on Earth during the show, but even if they are rabid fangirls, I highly doubt many of them would think to get a stripe and star to match Maya's stripe and moon. I mean, how many of us get a tatoo design just because some, say, actor or something has one just like it?

Personally, I think the reason Don Wei seems so oblivious to us is simply because he was forcing himself to be, subconsciously. With the way he acted after Maya's death (reclusive, sending Eva away, giving up racing, etc.), it's like he wanted to forget anything happened at all. Anything that reminded him of her at all was forced away to the point where he just doesn't recognize the similarities anymore, unless they're really, really obvious similarities (Eva pulling off moves her mother did in various races).
As for Eva getting upset about Don Wei saying about not seeing his daughter when he gets back to Earth... Frankly, that would make me pretty upset, too, if some parent told me they didn't want to see their child anymore for the same reason Don didn't want to see his. If there's still a chance to patch things up, I'd be yelling at that person to do so. >_> As for not recognizing her simply based on that anger, well... Eva could have taken that personally for a multitude of reasons beyond the fact that she was his daughter. Anyone in a situation similar to hers would have been pretty offended by that statement, and that was probably the way he interpreted it. Someone in a similar situation. At another point, he wasn't expecting his daughter to just come out of the blue, and especially wouldn't have expected to see her there, at the race. And, even if part of him had recognized her then, it would've been squashed immediately. He wouldn't want to see her there; what kind of father would want to see his daughter in the amount of danger Eva was in at the time?
Oh, and the tattoos! Tattoos are fun, see. =3 I can understand what Savin said about the tattoos being popular, and it makes sense. I'm sure there were plenty of teenagers out there at the time of the series with stars and stripes on their faces. Maya had a stripe and a moon, so there's an even bigger difference there. Considering the popularity of the tattoos, and the fact that a multitude of teenagers would have them, I can understand why Don didn't make the connection. Because of the popularity of the tattoos, they are no longer a feature that would make Eva stand out. They're just something noticeable yet normal in that culture that would just brand her as "rebellious teen."
... Why am I defending Don Wei here, I don't even like him... Though, he did handle that situation with Jordan and the flowers pretty well... XD

I fully concur don is in denial he's tried for the last ten years to put all of that behind him and out of his mind. only the events of the trials and on oban forced him to think and remember it. i do kinda feel sad for him and all that he's had to endure but that dosent stop the fac that i hated him for the first half of the series. also i plan on getting at least on tat based on a tv show i liked. i wanna get the ZENTRADI emblem tattoo'ed on my left shoulder!!! unfornutately i already got a dragon/pheonix tattooed on my right where i was already originally planning on putting it crying

Bit random, but we need some activity round here anyhow.. Best Don Wei moment ever-- Episode 21
Just after he and Eva have their huge talk in the Whizzing Arrow III, when the race is called and he goes upstairs and finds Stan Koji and Jordan supposedly minding their own business... "What are you waiting for?! We have a race to win! Get to your posts..." Love that bit how he just fades out at the end....Saw it the other night, had to post my love for it mrgreen
Close second is Don Wei accepting Jordan's Flowers. They're beautiful. rofl
Edit: Oops, I forgot his experimentation with Alien drinks in episode 8!
