It was early morning and Richard found herself wandering the beach. She wasn't doing anything in particular, just enjoying the cool surf crash around her ankles. She was hoping to run across the snake man by wandering places she didn't frequent. The beach was certainly one such place, she hadn't been back since she had lost her taste for alcohol.
She wore a pair of shorts and a T-shirt with a red squid on it. As she walked she allowed her tentacle's tip to touch the water, savoring the salty water.

Nita was also enjoying the early morning on the beach; Comet had run off across the sand, barking loudly at gulls and bits of driftwood. The red panda girl plodded along at a much more reserved pace, simply enjoying the fresh scent of the ocean.
Off in the distance, Comet spotted a familiar person. With a large stick in her mouth, she tore off in the direction of Richard. Nita paused and shielded her eyes with one paw. Who was Comet greeting so exuberantly?

Richard heard barking in the distance and peered across the sands, shielding her eyes with an oversized handpaw. Against the glare she saw what appeared to be a dog and someone with a very large tail. She squinted at the pair, trying to place them. She didn't have much to time to look however as the dog was charging directly for her!
Acting before thinking she shifted her balance as her tentacles whipped in to striking position, trailing droplets of water. Her claws un sheathed.
She felt a might bit silly when she saw the dog had a stick in its mouth and wagging tail.

Comet dropped to her haunches a few feet in front of Richard, her fluffy tail brushing the sand back and forth behind her. She gave him a big doggy grin, obviously very proud of herself (and her stick).
It took Nita a few minutes to reach them; she clucked her tongue for Comet to stay down, although the dog was being relatively well-behaved. "Sorry about that," she said, not immediately recognizing Richard. While she had seen him/her since their last change, it had been dark. The early morning light wasn't much better.
"... Richard?" Nita asked, as the tentacles and strangely feline features finally registered.

Richard suddenly felt very exposed, here in the open Nita could see Richard's radically changed body. She wearing only a T-shirt and a pair of above the knee shorts that were obviously not made for a man. She made a mewl of embrassment as she felt Nita's eyes on her body. Her arms raised as if to shield her chest from view but forced them back down to her sides, determined to make like it was no big deal anymore.
Her tail lashed nervously hind her, its tip skipping the water as she forced herself to smile nervously at Nita. A meeting that wasn't on her terms was awkward. "Hello Nita." The voice was a still sounded nothing like it had a month ago. "Good morning for a walk eh?"

Nita forced herself not to stare, although she was honestly surprised at Richard's appearance. Even more startling was... her distinctly feminine voice. The last time they'd run into each other Nita had been too preoccupied trying to convince Gaius that they hadn't all been unconscious for months on end.
"Hey," she said, her eyes flicking to Comet. "It's about the only time of day I can be out for long periods of time. With the heat and all," she explained needlessly. More and more often Nita was tempted to make an exploration of the cliffs, but she wasn't confident enough to go alone.
"Oh!" Nita exclaimed, suddenly remembering. "I'd actually been meaning to find you. Information for your newsletter." She leaned over and snagged the stick from Comet's jaws. The dog growled playfully; Nita flung the stick as far as she could along the tide-line.

Richard nodded at Nita, "I think I can understand that, I have been.. spared the fur issue thus far." She wondered how hot black fur would be as she cast glance at the trace amounts of black fuzz that covered the back of her handpaws. She grimaced, they looked bald to her, diseased. She knew that thought and similar ones were products of the feline DNA and did her best to ignore them. It wasn't easy.
She brightened at the prospect of news even though the motivation to actually do another newsletter was nearly gone. "Info? She cocked her head to the side in a feline manner. "What have you heard?"

Nita made a face; she had major 'fur issues.' Bathing took forever, getting dry after bathing took even longer...
"Well, more like another project. Newt, and Marshall and I were working on it. You might have seen some signs up?" Nita gestured vaguely in the direction of the village.
Comet bounded back with the stick in her mouth; Nita took a moment to wrestle it away and throw it again.
"Anyway," she continued, wiping her hands on her jeans, "We were setting up a recycling-slash-donation thing in the cafeteria. So people could donate old stuff they can't use anymore, like clothes, and then everyone is free to take what they can use."

Richard smiled a little as Nita explained her little project. "Ah yes the recycling project. I heard about that a bit from Marshall." Her mood darkened some as she recalled Marshall's terror at her changes. "Between stutters, the little coward." The grumbling was more to herself but was perfectly audible to Nita.
"Anyway, I think there is a fair chance I will be getting rid of some old clothing soon. Just haven't gotten around to it yet." She licked the back of a handpaw and ran it though her hair. Her gaze drifted out to sea, a scowl creeping over her features. Getting rid of all her male clothes felt like a surrender to her. It was silly to hang on to things she could not use anymore but getting rid of them would be admitting to herself that she'd never be male again.
Searching for a shift away from these dangerous thoughts she reached for a different conversation topic. "So... how are you and Gaius working out?" It was a blunt question from a nosey woman she knew. But relationships on the island were always interesting to hear about.

Nita raised a brow at the muttered comment about Marshall but declined to investigate. "Ah, so you'd heard then. Well, it hasn't really gone anywhere yet, but I figure anyone else spreading the word helps."
She shrugged; the red panda girl had every intention of donating her old clothing, at least, those articles that were still suitable for wear. What she'd arrived in was long past its prime.
She made another face at the mention of Gaius. "Not so great. They decided to keep us apart, so we've only spoken a few times over the past couple of weeks." The fur on her cheeks puffed out slightly, showing her frustration with the situation.

"The labs decided to keep you and Gaius apart?" Richard repeated, clearly confused. "Why would they do that? I've never heard of them intervening to prevent a coupling. Seems odd."

Nita sighed. "He... had a run-in with Zach. So Duvert arranged it so that if they get withing 25 feet of each other, they're automatically buzzed. Which is fine by me; they really don't need to be anywhere near each other."
The young dog bounded back to Nita and dropped the drool-covered stick at her feet. Automatically Nita bent over and tossed the stick again, hardly even noticing the slobber.
"But apparently that wasn't enough. So now if I get within 25 feet of Gaius, he gets zapped. It puts a damper on things," she finished wryly.

Richard gave a feline snort. "A long distance relationship at twenty five feet. I would say that would make things a bit difficult." There was a hint of amusement in the cat woman's voice. "Gaius and Zach have quite a history I hear, fortunately for myself I haven't talk to Zach in months. Its not worth the effort."
Something flashed in the water, drawing Richard's eyes, she took a step into the ocean. "I don't suppose Sabin has set a condition on this latest little game?" Richard was fairly confident that the ocean would make it difficult to be overheard here.

"No kidding," Nita muttered.
She shook her head. "No idea when they'll take the restriction off. Depends on what Duvert set out, if anything, to prove." She sighed quietly and gazed out across the water.

Richard squinted at the water's surface but the frothy surf made it impossible to see anything through the water. She shrug and turned back to Nita as she pondered what she knew of Durvert. "Have you talked to the man at all?" Richard was curious to know how active Sabin was with affairs in the village.
