((Evi Cooper, Flying Common squirrel monkey - 75%))

Evi whistled a bawdy, rather inappropriate tune to herself as she cheerfully clambered up on of the big trees alongside the river. Today had been a very good day for the monkey girl. She had managed to avoid any other islander who might just happen to be a predator who ate birds or monkeys and had, for once, completed her to-do list, though it had gotten considerably shorter since she was now on an island, totally isolated from the rest of the world. At any rate, her mood was better than usual, and she had finally decided that she would treat herself to a couple of hours of lazing in one of the trees by that beautiful river.

After finding a branch that she figured would hold her weight, she made herself comfortable, tail swishing lazily. Looking out, she mused to herself silently. How long had it been since she had said goodbye to her mother? Mikhail? She pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind. It didn't matter anymore. She closed her eyes as she continued to whistle, totally relaxed and off guard.

(Cecil Milner, Northern Mockingbird, 25%)

It's amazing how people can adapt to things. Cecil for example. When he first got on the island, he was a little cocktail of anger, depression and paranoia. Soon, he got over the fact that....

...

Wait. No he hasn't, if anything he felt worse. The dread of getting another injection kept things as chaotic in his mind as possible. This one was hard enough, he just grew wings the size of a 747 on his back, but the feathers were everywhere else on his body, and they were itchy. There was also the growing beak, which didn't seem too much of a big deal seeing that he can't talk anyway, but the loss of teeth wasn't exactly fun to deal with.

Still, despite all of this, he's managed to get the hang of things around here, it was like moving to a new town, everything was weird and unusual at first, but you eventually get used to living near a tentacle monster, and the constant fear of getting eaten, and the fact that you won't ever see your family ever again... After you get over that huddle, you're golden.

Cecil was up in a tree at the moment (By climbing, thank you very much.) His eyes were closed, he tried calming himself down, sorting out his thoughts seemed like a good place to start. He sighed, but it came out as a strangled Squawk!

Evi was in what she liked to think of as her happy place. Which, wasn't really all that happy, except it was were she imagined herself torturing the people she hated - while sitting in a hammock sipping a strawberry daiquiri. But you know, whatever floats your boat, right? She was imagining herself interrogated the little a*****e that had gotten her into this mess in the first place when the image was shattered by a strange, bird-like screech. Caught completely off-guard, Evi lost her balance and fell of the branch, shouting a mixture of human curses and angry, monkey-like twitters and hoots.

She flailed about with her hands, finally finding a grip on another branch. She grabbed it, halting her fall while also sending a sharp sting of pain up the arm she was using. Dexterously, as monkeys will, she clambered up with a very small amount of grase and squatted on the branch, looking for the source of the noise that had almost caused her serious bodily harm. She gave up, however, when she realized that everything seemed to blend in with the leaves of the tree so she shouted instead, "Is anyone out there?"

Very original.

Cecil quickly covered his mou- Er... Beak. That sound did NOT just come from him. Worse part was, someone heard it, and they were calling him, but not before sounding like a bat out of hell.

Normally, he'd feel embarassed, but seeing that he was a freak among many, how he looked just didn't seem to matter anymore. Heck, some of the more developed islanders were naked for goodness sake. Cecil had no shirt on himself, giving some air to the two wings on his back, but he did have pants. There was a scarf around his neck as well. At least he was wearing something.

He took out a pen and a notebook out of his pockets and wrote something down, after a moment of writing, he dropped the notebook from the branch to the ground. The message on the page wrote,

Up here ^

Evi was about to call out again went she heard a flapping noise and looked up, just in time for the notebook to come colliding with her face. At least this time she was holding onto something. She quickly regained her balance and blindly grabbed the notebook, which was smothering her. She turned to the first page, noticing something scribbled on, though she couldn't read it no matter how long she stared at it. Then it hit her.

The notebook was upside down.

Muttering curses under her breath, she tilted her head enough to be able to read the writing. Up here ^ Of course. The whatever it was was on top of her, the one place she hadn't looked. Still streaming colorful language from her mouth, she held the notebook in one hand and climbed upwards with her free hand and two other feet, something she would not have been able to do if she half monkey. Whenever she lost her balance, her wings would flutter, making noises against the leaves.

Cecil waited for some sort of reply, but all he got was the rustling of branches and leaves. He jumped, something was coming up for him! The bird part in his brain wanted him to jump from the branch and fly away, but his human reasoning took over. Surely a beast wouldn't be able to read... Though he wasn't quite sure. The doctor seemed more than capable of the feat, he had a whole island full of human animals, how hard could it be to make a the ultimate predator? And release it on said animal people?

...

Cecil kept his guard the best he could sitting on a branch as the rustling got closer.

As she continued to climb, she really really hoped that this wouldn't be a complete waste of her time. And she had thought that the day would be so nice too...

Sighing, her ears picked up the sound of breathing. Must be the other something. Finally, Evi was able to poke her head above another level of leaves and see what she had been looking for. Or rather, who she had been looking for. It? No, it was a he. He was crouching on one of the branches with this wary, prey kinda look in his eyes. The first thing she noticed were the wings, then the feathers, then the fact that he wasn't wearing a shirt. Fearing for the worst, she looked just a bit lower and sighed inwardly with relief - at least he was wearing shorts.

Knowing she must look kind of funny, being half-girl, half-monkey, and having wings, she tried to plaster her most happy, innocent, and unscary smile she could on her face.

Needless to say, the smile didn't really look all that friendly. Evi was never really good at putting on fake smiles.

Cecil almost fell off his perch from the sudden appearance of a monkey-girl-person-bird thing. If he wasn't balanced already, he would've been on the ground. What the hell was she? He could tell that the person in front of him was a she, that's for sure. It's just that "She-ness" air that girls have around them.

Cecil recovered from the initial shock to actually look at her closer. She seemed monkeyish, with wings... She looked like she just escaped Oz or something. His eyes went wide.

Flying monkeys. Monkeys with freaking wings, and to top it off, she was still part human! Was there anything this doctor COULDN'T do?!

On the bright side, at least he had someone to talk to when it came to wing care.

He hesitated before waving a greeting to her.

If Evi even noticed his initial shock and slight hesitation before waving, she gave no sign of it. But the face he gave her did cause her to break out in a real, actual smile. She waved back at him with the hand holding the notebook while asking, "Hey! Is this yours? You dropped it on my head." The bird-guy seemed to just be staring out in space, even though he had given her a small wave, so Evi hopped into a sort of sitting position on the branch and put the notebook down, making sure it was balanced. She then proceeded to frantically wave her hands an in in front of the guy's beak.

"What're you lookin' at? Never seen a monkey with wings before?" She joked, grinning broadly as she spread her wings out until they were stopped by the branches.

Cecil's eyes narrowed, one of those looks that said, "What do you think?"

He took the notebook up and wrote in it again, he tossed it to her.

No, I guess not.

He was in a mood, he didn't appreciate her scaring the living crap out of him, and right now, he didn't feel like making conversation with anyone right now. Still, he couldn't help but stare at her with a sort of morbid interest. He caught himself, and looked away. It wasn't polite to stare, but it also wasn't polite to not look at who's speaking to you.

Maybe he should just screw the formalities and stare again.

After catching the notebook and reading its contents, she looked up and cocked an eyebrow at the bird-man who was, much to her vexation, still giving her bizarre looks. She folded her wings back, to see if that might make his a little bit more comfortable.

"I'm assuming you're a mute then?" She asked, tossing the notebook back at him.

Cecil caught the notebook eagerly, and started writing as soon as he had in his hand. He needed something else to look at. After penning something down, he threw it back to flying monkeygirl.

Sort of, I could sorta, I just choose not to.

His gaze was elsewhere, everywhere but the girl. Though her presence was bothering him, practically begging to be looked at.

While the bird-man fought with himself over looking at Evi or not, the girl in question was staring back at him with a very quizzical expression on her face. Who would want to voluntarily not speak? It seemed rather silly to her. She noticed his attention starting to wander, which was slightly good and slightly bad. At least he didn't seem so stuck in a trance anymore, but it really was quit rude to not look at someone when talking, and she voiced her opinion.

"You know, one should really look at the person he or she is talking too, even if their the only ones talking." She didn't sound angry, or even peeved, she just had this tone of wry amusement as he informed him.

Cecil gave a frustrated grunt, and he began to climb down the tree. This was not what he needed right now. His wings were flailing around madly, trying to avoid the branches.

He did not need some monkey-person to tell him what's rude and what's not rude. Especially while he was brooding. It was hard to live with the fact that he'd never get that "Cure" he was promised, but it was even worse to know that you're going to turn into something sub-human in the mess.

The teen jumped off one of the low branches and began to walk away from the tree. He stopped, remembering that his notebook was still up there with the girl.

Dammit!

As the bird-man started his descent, Evi sighed inwardly. This guy seemed pretty difficult. She counted backwards from ten, just as she had taught herself when she was little, so she could stop herself from screaming. What had she done to him? Grumbling to herself, it was only after the bird-man was gone from sight that she realized that she still had his notebook. Really, she should just keep it and make him go find a new one, him being all rude like that. But Evi knew, obviously, that that wasn't the right thing to do.

Sighing once more, she grabbed the notebook and started to deftly swing herself down the tree in a well practiced manner. Unlike the bird-man, she knew how to keep her wings from hitting all the branches.

She arrived at the bottom in time to find the book's owner several yards away. "Hey!" She called, frantically waving the notebook in the air, "you forgot this!"
