There are different customs about listening to music during the omer. i don't understand why somebody would get pleasure from live music but not from CDs. What is your opinion about this matter?

I didn't understand the concept until I started going to live musical performances regularly. It's a completely different experience to "feel" music performed live as opposed to listening to a CD or a recording, IMO.. Especially rock music ( lol ), but this applies to virtually all kinds of music, including religious tunes.. I think people who play music themselves might have more to say about it than I do.

Different people hold differently. I hold that you can listen to recorded music, whereas my parents hold you cant.

The reason you cant listen to live music is because it is fun and entertaining (like you said) and we are in a time of mouring for Rabbi Akiva's students who died because of Lashon Hora. (gossip)

during the seven shiva days, that you sit when a mother, father, sister, brother,or spouse dies, you cant listen to music, (among other things)

recorded music (in my opinion) is more like somthing you do when you are bored to pass the time, its not real entertainment like a live show (like you said Shoujo)
but thats one girls opinion

There are so many psakim about that today, it's beginning to get confusing! The p'sak by some of the head rabbanim in Israel is that during the 32 days you CAN listen to CD/Recorded music when you are alone (headphones, earphones, alone at home, etc...). If the music is live, even if you are alone (playing the instrument for example) that's not allowed.

But that doesn't matter anymore 3nodding .
